Dark Florals for Spring

Happy Monday, friends!! Today I’m taking it up a notch and styling a floral blouse with dark wash jeans for a spring/summer date night look.

wearing: LOFT floral shell (dot print option) // AG The Prima ankle cigarette jeans (more options/similar for less) // Marc Fisher Nahea slides (option/option) // Banana Republic leather hobo // Evereve snake wrap bracelet // Madewell necklace set // similar Kendra Scott drop earrings

Every year at about this time, LOFT brings out a slew of pretty floral blouses and shells, and I always pick up a few to pair with jeans and sandals for church and date nights during the spring and summer.

This year, it was this floral ruffle mock neck shell that caught my eye. I’m a sucker for moody florals grounded on a dark background, and I love how the combination of orange, green, yellow and pink pop on the deep navy backdrop.

Unfortunately, this blouse keeps selling out, but I decided to go ahead and post this look because it keeps popping back up in various sizes.

This same top also comes in a few solid colors (love that dusty green!), and this really cute dot print — a nice alternative for those who don’t care for florals. In fact, I might have to pick that up as well! It would also look great with these jeans.

These ruffle mock neck mixed media shells are sleeveless with a stand collar with a ruffle trim and henley button front, and they have a relaxed, flowy fit. The best part is, they’re cut perfectly around the arms and in the neckline, so you don’t have to worry about exposing your bra as you move around… or anything else!

I paired this floral blouse with my AG Prima ankle cigarette jeans in an inky blue wash. Cigarette jeans are basically a skinny jean that is cut a little bit straighter from knee to hem.

These are a nice option for those who like the fit of a skinny jean, but want a more modern silhouette. I’ve had these AG Primas for a couple of years, and they’ve held up great with no fading or bagging out over time. They run true to size; I have my usual 28.

Bloomies has some of the AG Prima on sale right, now, and if you need a lower price point, Gap makes a pair of dark wash cigarette jeans. J.Crew also has a pair of vintage straight jeans that have a similar cut to them.

These cream leather Marc Fisher slides lighten up the dark wash jeans, and the woven leather strap adds a touch of texture and sophistication to the look. They have a 2 1/4″ block heel, so they’re easy to walk in, and they stay on my feet remarkably well for slides.

It appears as though my cream color is gone already. For some reason, sandals are selling out everywhere this year! It’s crazy; I’ve never seen things sell out so fast that aren’t on sale. I hope the retailers have plans to restock. This pair is also really cute, and this pair is a good similar for less option.

I carried my Banana Republic hobo in light taupe, which coordinates nicely with these sandals. This bag is 40% off + an extra 10% off at checkout.

I accessorized with these big geometric drop earrings. I’ve had them for a while, and I didn’t realize they were sold out when I packed them for this photo shoot. I’m not having very good luck today, am I???

Basically, I’m a fan of anything by Kendra Scott. I have a ton of her earrings. These Simon drop earrings would work just as well with this look.

I also wore a gold necklace set from Madewell and the snake wrap bracelet from Evereve.

This is my go-to spring/summer church or date night outfit outfit. If you tend to get chilly, you could throw a lighter blue denim jacket on top, or a white one, or a cardigan even.

It’s a simple look, so getting a good fit in each garment and proper proportions is key to looking polished and put-together. You’ll notice I did a front-tuck to create that 1/3 to 2/3 ratio, and it also gives a more flattering shape through the waist area.

  1. As usual a great outfit. I like your style. I need a new mascara. All mine seem to clump and flake and hard to wash off.

  2. I love this outfit! Thank you for addressing whether those slides are okay to walk in as I wondering. Have a good week, Jo-Lynne.

  3. Love this outfit it not sure what size to get. Sometimes Loft runs big and I need an extra small or I go with my usual petite small. I imagine your wearing the small?
I enjoyed you coffee talk yesterday, I just didn’t get a chance to comment. I can’t believe your son is now a senior in college! I remember telling you how quickly the time would go once he left, and now he’s almost out of college. Are you worried about the new variant of the virus hitting Florida? I desperately want to go somewhere for my 60th in July but not sure where or how things will be at that time

    1. Yes, I’m wearing the small. No, I’m not too worried about the new variant. I have a healthy respect for this virus, but I refuse to live in fear of it. I wear my mask properly when I’m in close contact with other people, and we rented a house with a pool that is nice enough that if we feel like it’s not safe down there, we can just hang out at home and enjoy the rental.

  4. You look fantastic! I already bought that same print in the long-sleeve blouse. The cigarette jeans really look great….I think you have found your answer to skinny jeans. We pear-shaped ladies are glad the skinny jean look is fading!

  5. I love this outfit! It’s my “uniform”of choice. Here’s a quick hint if this shirt or any other one is sold out: look for it on Poshmark. You’ve styled a dusty aqua floral sleeveless top from LOFT with white jeans, and I debated and debated about ordering it, but never did. Of course, when I finally decided I WANT THIS SHIRT, it was completely sold out. I was crushed but it was my own fault. One day I happened to check on Poshmark and searched for it – narrowing down the categories by brand, color, and size – and lo and behold, there it was! It was even new with tags! So I am a proud owner of that cute top and wear it on rotation constantly!

  6. I have several of the mixed media shirts from last year. I just love how they hang.
I couldn’t get your pinterest link to work today.

  7. I love your outfit and the fact that I can shop my closet for a similar look for me. I purchased the BR hobo bag in taupe and it’s a little darker than the shoes I planned to wear with it. Does it matter if the handbag doesn’t match my shoes? This used to really bother me, but I’m trying to get over it!

  8. JoLynne, I tried to reply to MaryW but wasn’t able to. I’m on an iPad.

Mary, I use Dior mascara. It makes them look longer & thicker with no clumping, nor flaking. I’m never going back to cheaper mascaras.

  9. Pretty top! It’s finally warming up here.. 65 right now but I’m on our back deck by the pool and it’s much warmer in the sun! No wind 🙌🏻.. I’ve been trying my creamy shape tape on your recommendation and so far love it! I’m really liking all the Tarte products I’ve tried:) have a great day!

  10. I purchased this same top and the dusty olive—I’m not sure what the actual name is on Loft. I thought it looks nice with dark jeans also. Looking forward to more of your spring looks!

  11. Love the top!
I ordered it online a few weeks ago too…and have had some unseasonably warm weather (wore it twice)
I love the mixed media tops from Loft. The have become a staple of mine.
The Pima cigarette jeans are great as well.
Reading your blog has really been helpful in my style picks..you are a terrific guide. And I never feel uncomfortable (or dumb) asking for your help.
    Many thanks.

  12. Love this! Im wondering if all the buttons on the floral top button – or are the 2 at the top just for looks? 😀
