Happy Friday, friends, and cheers to the weekend! 🥂
Today I’m sharing more pictures from my shoot with Alison here at the house last week and how I styled this velvet dot tie back shell two ways, simply by changing up my footwear.
It’s important to have a mix of textures when wearing a monochromatic outfit, and this top has a really cool velvet dot texture. Plus the ruffled neck and back ties are fun details.
I played around with front tucking and letting it hang loose, and I’m still not sure which was the right way to go, but I did the front tuck.
Also, this top is 50% off with free shipping, along with the rest of the LOFT website. Use code MERRY at checkout.
These are the Rag & Bone jeans from the #NSale. Amazingly, they’re still in stock and 33% off! I like how the raw edge toughens up the look and offsets the sparkly shoes and accessories. For size reference, I have the 29.
The glam jute ankle strap sandals instantly take this simple outfit to party status. The sparkly mesh fabric has a metallic look to it that works with both gold and silver jewelry, and they’re surprisingly comfortable because the block heel and ankle strap gives good stability.
These shoes run true to size, and you can find more sizes at Zappo’s.
This next look is slightly more casual because I swapped out the heels for flats, but the big sparkly bow keeps them holiday festive.
These jeweled bow flats are so fun. Unfortunately they sold out super fast. Womp, womp…
Accessories are key to making a monochromatic outfit festive. These antique-inspired cluster drop stone earrings are perfect for a party look; I’ve already worn them a few times already this season.
J.Crew is a great place to find statement jewelry that’s modern and fun and won’t break the bank, and right now they’re running a 50% off sale + free shipping. Which is like totally unheard of. In fact, I think every retailer I frequent has 50% off with free shipping today. It’s nuts.
I’m also wearing the stretch bracelet I got at Ann Taylor and wore with these two outfits — ironically, one was monochromatic as well. Ann Taylor is also running 50% off + free shipping, and an extra 15% off sweaters. This bracelet is a fabulous wardrobe basic that compliments so many holiday looks.
So the outfit formula here is to pair two pieces in the same color with different textures/patterns — it doesn’t have to be black, but black is so easy. Then you add shoes and accessories that elevate the look. Sparkle and shine is key to making a simple outfit look holiday festive. For a more casual event, you could go with an animal print like leopard or snakeskin shoes or bag, but I love the sparkly shoes with both of these looks.

Another cold morning here, but suppose to warm up for the weekend. We’ve been getting January and February temps way too soon. Love this holiday look and the pic at your front door is ready for a magazine cover. Have fun at the loft tonight….
It’s been super cold here too. Finally warming up a tad this weekend, but rainy. Oh well. 2018 will end eventually, right? 😂
Beautiful outfits. The first version with the flats would be perfect for hosting Christmas Eve. Thank you for the great post. Have a nice day.
Ooooh good idea. 🙂 I am hosting our extended family Christmas on the 29th.
Wish I didn’t already have plans tonight, as I live close enough to come meet you and go to wegman’s! I purchased the black top yesterday on their merry sale thanks for recommending. You and your house looks beautiful for the holidays. Merry Christmas. Enjoy it with your son, soon they will move out entirely.
Oh, that would be fun! Thank you.
Jolynne, both you and your home look so festive and beautiful!
Thanks, Susan! xo
That’s my kind of party outfit. I don’t often go to events where I’d get really dressed up so I like the festive casual look. Looks great on you.
Same. I wish I did!
I love this outfit both ways! It is such an easy look to put together and so elegant. Your house looks so beautiful. I know you are enjoying it!
Thanks, Dianna. I am!
The garland on your stairs looks fantastic! I like how you hung it and how the special touch 5he berries provide. Both outfits are great! While I love cold weather, I can’t do sleeveless or short sleeves without a sweater or jacket. I will say again, how much I like the flat shoes! Our granddaughter got home from college on Wednesday. We can’t wait to spend some time with her and her parents on Christmas Day, and shock them with one special gift. I am doing laundry & may bake some cookies today, but that’s it. I’m either fighting a cold or have a bad sinus infection, so I’m taking it easy on this very wet Friday. Have an awesome day!
Oh no, feel better so you can enjoy your granddaughter and family this weekend!
First I have to say that I had to smile when you used the clinking glasses emoji. I just talked about using emojis when I blog today…I do it a lot.😉 Your new home makes for a beautiful backdrop for pictures and the lighting is great. I love the foyer light fixture too. This is a really great party look. Comfortable and still cute. Have a great weekend!
I totally overuse emojis, and my kids HATE emojis. It must be an old person thing.
I love both looks…especially the flats!
Just received my j crew black tee will add some
Sparkle and shine!
Enjoy your gathering and thanks again for
all your inspiration!
Thanks, Janet!! xo
I love the elegant simplicity of the black outfit and sparkly jewellery. The bows on the flat shoes are fabulous. Your house looks beautiful and very festive!

Love this monochromatic outfit! I am partial to heels but the flats would be a fun element to add if I was hosting a party.
Wish I lived in the Philly area so I could check out the Loft event. It would be awesome to actually meet you in person. Instead I will be going to my staff Christmas party, which will be fun, just not as epic as getting to meet you 😊. I actually took a bit of advice from you and tried a red dress, even though my husband thinks I won’t match his ginger skin tone lol..
Wow.. long comment…. I have real life friends, honestly I do lol..
Great outfits, Jo-Lynne. I especially like those flats! Thank you for the wonderful styling tips for wearing a monochromic outfit. I wish that I lived in the Philly area. Have a fabulous weekend.
So pretty on you. Love the photo shoot in your house. So festive with your stairway garland and door wreath.
Absolutely stunning and love the flats and heels! Both set of shoes really make the outfit perfect for the holidays! You nailed this with your accessories as well.
Merry Christmas!
Lovely chic outfit! I love the sparkly bow on the shoe! Have a fabulous weekend xx Maria
Those cute flats are sold out oh well. I ordered shoe clips off amazon that should do the trick on my black suede flats! Have a great weekend with your family. My daughter is coming home from college this weekend, for a month as well.
Just had to take a moment to tell you that you look absolutely beautiful in all of these pictures! I love the outfits they are so pretty and very classy. Thanks for all you do to provide such a wonderful blog for so many of us gals to enjoy each day ❣️
What do you think of wearing red shoes with an all black outfit? I’m going to a casual Christmas party next week and was planning to wear black jeans, a black
sleeveless blouse and red suede flats. Thoughts?
I think that would look fabulous!
Can you please tell me where you got your foyer light fixture? I went back on some
Previous posts but couldn’t find anything!
Sure! they have it at Wayfair: https://shopstyle.it/l/W06G
Also, I didn’t care for the fake drippy candle look so I ordered these socket covers for a cleaner look: https://shopstyle.it/l/W08E
