Elevated Sweatshirt & Retro Runners for Spring

Happy Friday, friends! It’s Day 5 of 23 Days of Spring Fashion, and I’m styling an elevated sweatshirt and retro runners from Everlane.

wearing: Everlane The Track Half-Zip c/o // AGOLDE Toni straight ankle jeans // Everlane The Tread Runner c/o // Gucci sunnies (similar for less) // similar earrings

This sweatshirt is more elevated than your typical hoodie. It’s made of organic french terry, which gives it a premium feel, and it has some nice details around the zip neckline. It also has a subtle drop shoulder and side pockets.

I really like the length — it isn’t cropped, but it’s not as long as a traditional sweatshirt. It’s really comfortable and easy to throw on with jeans and sneakers for a casual mom-about-town vibe.

This is light heather grey; but it also comes in black, rust (honey), and that pretty light green we’re seeing everywhere this spring. It runs true to size, with a relaxed fit; I have the small.

You could wear this sweatshirt with joggers or sweatpants, but I like it best with jeans. Ya’ll won’t mind if I wear my AGOLDE Tonis every other day, will you?

Just kidding… I promise, I’ll work on integrating some other denim styles into this series, but these really are the perfect compromise between my beloved skinny jeans and the straighter styles that are trending.

I don’t think I’m ever going to be able to fully embrace the wider straight leg jeans. Those just don’t flatter me. Fortunately, we are living in an era of anything goes, and we are free to pick and choose what works for us from the plethora of choices available these days.

These washed black straight ankle jeans have a modern chewed hem, and they’re made of a soft lyocell/cotton/elastane fabric. They were incredibly comfortable right out of the box, and I’ve barely taken them off since I got them.

They also come in a non-distressed version, for those who prefer that, and they run TTS; I have the 28.

These 80’s inspired runners also came from Everlane, and they’re a fun way to do the retro sneaker trend. They’re not as bulky as some, and they’re also very lightweight and comfortable.

These sneakers are true to size, or you could maybe size down if in between. I’m in my usual size 8, and they’re a bit roomy.

Because this look is so casual, I kept my accessories minimal. My 11mm pearl earrings have sold out, but the 9-10mm size is on sale. Amazon also has a pair of faux pearl earrings that will give you same look for a fraction of the price.

And don’t forget your sunnies! Sunglasses are an important accessory, not just for practical purposes, but also for the style factor. Even when you keep your jewelry minimal, or perhaps even more so when you keep your jewelry minimal, adding a pair of stylish sunglasses will make your outfit look more stylish and intentional.

And finally, I carried a casual black shoulder bag. This is also from Everlane, but it has been discontinued, which is so very sad. I love this bag! It’s the perfect size and shape for an everyday shoulder bag. I’m on the hunt for something similar, so stay tuned!

I will wear this outfit for running errands or working from home, and it’s also perfect for attending your kids’ (or grandkids’) sports events… or, in my case, band events. We are so excited that our Covid restrictions lightening up, and we should be able to attend some of R’s indoor drumline competitions this spring!

  1. What a great outfit that you look nice in! I really like the sweatshirt, but I’m wondering if you can raise your arms up to get something above your head without your mid section showing. I just don’t like to show any mid-section skin when I am out shopping (buying groceries), reaching up for things. We had some wind yesterday, but it looks calm out there this morning. Is Savannah going to the beach with y’all? Have a fabulous Friday!

  2. I bought similar retro sneakers from Madewell and really have enjoyed having them. Also, I loved it when you used to do your “Things I’m Loving for (Insert Month)” posts. Have you decided not to do those anymore? I always got excited about those, and typically found something new to try.

    1. Yeah, I guess I sort of forgot about that post! It’s hard during these outfit style series to fit in much else, but I do like to do those monthly as well. I really need an editorial calendar that repeats monthly features like that so they don’t fall off my radar. Sort of like how Google calendar works… I wonder if WordPress has anything like that.

  3. I love this outfit! I’m very tempted by the jeans and the sweatshirt, though I’d probably choose the undistressed version, as I could wear those to work when we finally return. I also love the look of the sneakers but I feel like my feet are so long for my height and I feel very self conscious in light colored shoes. So glad to hear you might be able to watch some of Becca’s drum line performances. My band kid (saxophone) is stuck at home this year and is very much hoping they get to play together next year, his senior year, as he’ll be in the top level jazz band which in the past has done a lot of traveling. He also really missed playing at football games this year (it’s a very casual pep band that plays in the stands at games, but super fun, and they all get pizza after). On the upside my baseball kid went to his first day of pre try-out conditioning yesterday as prep sports have finally reopened in California, hooray! Sorry for the novel. Have a wonderful day!

  4. You can show those jeans every day as far as I’m concerned. I bought them and love them way more than i thought i would! i’m enjoying the more casual outfits, but hoping this series will also include “dressier” styles. When we go out to dinner, which is not infrequent, I always “level up” because it’s the only chance I get to wear my nice stuff. And i always wear something with a heel.

    1. I’m so glad you like them! I know, I need to step it up. I am having a hard time getting in the mood for spring, to be honest. More to come this week! I did find some really cute heeled sandals – perfect for spring/summer date nights.

  5. Love the sweatshirt! I am not a fan of the new style of jeans either. Today I actually wore a pair, they were still somewhat slim fitting, but my husband kindly told me that they are not flattering and make me look bigger than I am. So I’m done with that! 🙂
