Fall Fashion Trend to Try: Polo Sweater

I loved the polo sweater the first time I saw it, back in the spring when I was researching 2021 fashion trends, but I couldn’t find one to work for me until now.

This one is from Everlane, and it’s 100% cashmere, so it feels really nice against the skin.

I really like the buttonless collar and subtle rib detailing. It’s such a classic look, but the neckline adds interest and keeps it current.

I also love this pretty lilac color. A lot of you all weren’t sure about lilac for fall, but I think it’s such a nice change from all the neutrals and rust tones that are trending right now.

Plus, it pairs beautifully with black and grey jeans, which comprise about half of my denim wardrobe at the moment.

This sweater also comes in olive, black, and oatmeal, if you prefer a more muted color. It runs true to size; I’m wearing the small, for reference.

I debated wearing the suede BP. mules with this outfit, but I went with these leather flats with the asymmetrical vamp. Aaaaaaaaand of course, they’re sold out. But any black mule would work with this look. Or a loafer, for that matter.

And these jeans are the ones you saw approximately 145 times in Wednesday’s What I Wore Lately. They’re a splurge, but I love the fit and the wash, and they’re currently 25% off at Saks!!! They run true to size; I’m wearing the 28.

If you need a more budget-friendly option, this pair from Gap looks really close. Or this lighter grey pair has a 9 1/2″ rise, for those who prefer something lower.

This dressed-up casual look is easy to throw on and go, but it looks polished and put together. I will definitely be wearing some version of this a lot this fall!

  1. I LOVE your blog and your fashion ideas BUT wish you’d share more affordable options. The average person (me) doesn’t have the means for most of the items you share.

  2. I think I like the lavender for fall! I have an Everlane ballet neck 3/4 sleeve cashmere sweater in light blue from a couple of years ago and I love wearing it in the fall and winter. I’m just trying to decide if I need another cashmere sweater, lol. Especially since it has to be really cold for me to wear one without feeling itchy. Everyone keeps their house/store/restaurant so warm in the winter!
On a different subject, has anyone tried the Kut from the Kloth Catherine high-waist jeans? I wore a pair I bought in the Nordy sale and am so disappointed. They grew 2 sizes probably– and I went with the smallest size I ever wear. And I bought 2 pairs! Luckily, I only wore 1. I contacted Nordy’s because I had pulled the tags and worn them and they are allowing me to return them. I couldn’t exchange for a smaller size as they’re out of stock. I really like the look of slightly distressed boyfriends for kicking around on weekends. I guess I need to start researching boyfriend jeans again. Groan.

  3. I love this sweater and the color! You’re right that it’s unexpected for fall. Lavender/lilac was the dress color for my bridesmaids and a major theme in our wedding 21 years ago. I do have one request though: when you feature long sleeve tops or sweaters, can you show them with the sleeves down? I guess scrunching makes the look effortlessly cool but I never do that with tops (unless I’m deliberately trying to show off a bracelet), and I like to see how the sleeves and cuffs look. I don’t like overly wide sleeves. Sorry, just a thing of mine! One of my pet peeves when looking to purchase clothes online is that they scrunch sleeves a lot and I can’t tell how it looks un-scrunched! Have a great Friday, and hope Paul is feeling much better!

  4. I really like the lavender for fall, and used to have a turtleneck sweater that color that I loved. My problem is, I have more clothes than will fit in my closet and I like everything I have, but I have to make some hard decisions. I know you do that all the time, but I find it really difficult.
A question for your q & a. What causes jeans to slip down as you wear them? Are they too big in the waist? I don’t like things super tight in the waist. Is it because they are stretching out as you wear them? I have been having this problem lately, and just wish I knew how to avoid it.

  5. You look so cute. So put together. I know me, if I bought that color I’d save it for Spring. Lol I do like the color though. The styles sure are coming back from awhile ago.
