Hi, friends! I’ve got a new try-on haul for you today, and this one’s packed with cold weather style inspiration as we transition from fall to winter. From versatile dresses to cozy sweaters and jeans, I’ve found pieces that strike the perfect balance between comfort and style. Plus, I’m excited to share a new-to-me brand, Sézane, known for their effortlessly chic designs. Let’s dive in!

Everyday Style: Winter Fashion Try-On Haul
As usual, I will provide measurements and fabric content on each item when I can find it, and I’ll share whether I plan to keep it or not. Just remember, even when I decide not to keep something, it doesn’t mean it isn’t worth checking out. I just may not need it, or it may not work for my body type or lifestyle.
Faherty Frost Cable Stitch Turtleneck Alpaca Blend Sweater
at Nordstrom (S) // similar MOTHER Dazzler – 30% off (29) // Splendid Liza Mules – 25% off (8)

DETAILS: Lightweight and luxe baby-alpaca yarns enrich a cozy turtleneck sweater knit in chunky cables and other textured stitches that make it perfect for layering over looks.
- 23″ length
- 70% alpaca, 23% polyamide, 7% merino wool
- Dry clean
Now that our weather has finally turned cold, I’m all about cozy knitwear and jeans, and I ordered a few new sweaters from Nordstrom to try. You may have seen a few of those in this post, but this is one that did not make the cut.
It’s a gorgeous knit, nice and thick and very soft and cozy, and I love the chunky cable knit, but… you heard that coming, right? I felt like the turtleneck was a little too much, not that it was too tight, but it was just a lot of bulk, and the overall silhouette seemed to make me look really broad in the shoulder area.

In looking at these pictures, I’m wondering if I should have tried a size down, but I still don’t think I’d enjoy such a bulky turtleneck.
VERDICT: I decided to send this one back.
Nordstrom Wool & Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater
at Nordstrom (S) // similar MOTHER Dazzler – 30% off (29) // Splendid Liza Mules – 25% off (8)

DETAILS: Let the cold winds blow while you stay warm in this turtleneck sweater that’s a comforting blend of wool and cashmere.
- Turtleneck, Long sleeves, Ribbed cuffs and hem
- 70% wool, 30% cashmere
- Dry clean

This is one of the sweaters that did make the cut, and you can read more about it in this post. This one didn’t feel so overwhelming on me, and I really love this color.
VERDICT: It’s a keeper!
Lucky Brand Fair Isle Turtleneck Sweater in Black Combo
50% off at Macy’s (also at Nordstrom) (S) // similar MOTHER Dazzler – 30% off (29) // Splendid Liza Mules – 25% off (8)

DETAILS: A classic Fair Isle style adds loads of charm to staple sweater knit from a wool-kissed blend.
- Turtleneck, Long sleeves, Ribbed cuffs and hem
- 65% acrylic, 30% polyester, 5% wool
- Machine wash, tumble dry
You also saw this one in my post with Nordstrom, but I just found it 50% off at Macy’s for 50% off! FYI, the cream version is 50% off at Nordstrom, and you can probably get them to match the Macy’s price on the black, as well.
This is definitely not the quality of the other two, but it’s soft and cozy and comfortable, and I really like the fair isle design and the black and white color palette.
VERDICT: Keeping this one too, and I’ve already worn it once. I actually kept it on the day I tried it on and took these pictures, but I swapped the Liza slides for my comfy UGG slippers since I was staying at home.
KUT from the Kloth Ana Coated Denim Flares
at Nordstrom (6) // Sézane Otis Jumper Charcoal Grey (S)

DETAILS: These coated flare jeans complement your figure with floor-grazing legs and Fab Ab front pockets that shape and smooth.
- 33″ inseam; 20 1/2″ leg opening; 10 1/4″ front rise; 14 1/2″ back rise (size 8)
- 59% modal, 39% polyester, 2% Lycra® spandex
- Machine wash, tumble dry
I’ve been looking for a new pair of black coated denim flares to replace the pair I had to pass on when they got too small (or I got too big, I suppose!) I don’t like to spend a ton on coated denim because I don’t wear it a lot, but I like to have a pair for winter events and those times I want to be just a little dressier than jeans.
This pair is a great price point, and I like the fit, but they are soooo long. If I keep them, I’ll have to get them shortened, but I also just ordered this pair to try.
VERDICT: I will pick one of the two, and get them shortened ASAP.
MOTHER The Roller High Rise Wide Leg Jeans in Work Hard
at Nordstrom & Bloomingdale’s (29) // Sézane Otis jumper (S) // Veronica Beard Lada (8.5)

DETAILS: Be anything but expected in high-waist jeans cut with wide legs from perfectly faded premium stretch denim.
- 30 1/2″ inseam; 27″ leg opening; 10 3/4″ front rise; 14″ back rise (size 29)
- 78% cotton, 16% modal, 4% polyester, 2% elastane
- Machine wash, tumble dry
To be honest, I’m not sure why I ordered this pair of jeans, because I have a similar pair with a finished hem that I like. Maybe I was thinking I could cut these off to wear with sneakers, since they have a raw hem? I think that might have been my thought process. I really don’t want to chop the hem off the pair that I have, and I like them with some of my boots, but I can’t wear them with sneakers. Also, I just hate to feature jeans that I can’t link for you.

ANYWHO! I was surprised to discover how wide they are. I figured (hoped) they would fit much like my other pair. I guess I should have compared leg opening measurements before I ordered, because there’s a whopping 3″ difference. Here’s a side-by-side for comparison.

MOTHER The Roller High Rise Wide Leg Jeans – 30 1/2″ inseam; 27″ leg opening; 10 3/4″ front rise // MOTHER The Hustler Roller Skimp – 31″ inseam; 24″ leg opening; 11 1/2″ front rise
VERDICT: I’ll be returning The Roller and keeping my eye out for something closer to that 24″ leg opening.
Also notice how the rises are starting to come down. My older pair has a 11 1/2″ front rise, and the newer pair has a 10 3/4″ front rise. I think this is where trends are heading, although I just noticed that this pair—The Hustler Roller Sneak—has a 12″ rise, so who knows. Rises are all over the place these days! Speaking of which, I love that darker wash, and they have a 24″ leg opening, so I’m tempted to try them. I’m just not sure about that 12″ rise. I don’t mind the 11 1/2″ so it might be okay, but that’s reeeeally high.
Sézane Otis Jumper Charcoal Grey
at Sézane (S) // MOTHER The Hustler Roller Skimp (29) // Marc Fisher boots (8) (option)

DETAILS: Long-sleeved Baby Alpaca Jumper with a slightly raised neckline and cable knit on the neck, armholes, cuffs and hemline.
- Length from the shoulder: 22″ in” (size S)
- 68% Baby Alpaca, 30% Polyamide, 2% Elastane
- Hand wash in cold water
Okay, back to knitwear! Last week, someone asked me if I would review some Sézane sweaters. Twist my arm! I’ve been hearing a lot about this brand; in fact, I tried their Milo bag a while back and found the ordering and returns process to be very easy, so I took a look around and ordered three sweaters to try.

This one looked promising, with the raglan sleeves and cozy alpaca knit. When it arrived, I liked the look and feel, but when I tried it on, I felt like the band at the hem fit awkwardly. I tried it both untucked and front tucked, but I found myself wishing it was a boxier fit, so that it would more or less hang straight, rather than hugging my hips.
VERDICT: I returned this one. I just don’t love it.
Sézane Amiel Jumper in Linen
at Sézane (S) // MOTHER The Hustler Roller Skimp (29) // Marc Fisher boots (8) (option)

DETAILS: Long-sleeved Baby Alpaca Jumper with a slightly oversized fit and cable knit on the cuffs and hemline.
- Length from the shoulder: 22.2″ in” (size S)
- 68% Baby Alpaca, 30% Polyamide, 2% Elastane
- Hand wash in cold water

I have similar issues with this sweater. I just feel like it looks bulky on me. Something about the way these sweaters are cut add visual weight in all of the wrong places.
VERDICT: I returned it.
Sézane Betty Cardigan in Rosewood
at Sézane (S) // MOTHER The Hustler Roller Skimp (29) // Marc Fisher boots (8) (option)

DETAILS: Long-sleeved merino wool cardigan with chest pockets and a shirt collar.
- Length from the shoulder: 19.7″ (size S)
- 100% Merino Wool
- Hand wash in cold water
Now this one is more of a boxy silhouette, and I knew that 19.7″ length was potentially too short, but I wanted to try it because I love the color and collared cardigan style sweater. It really is pretty, but ultimately I decided it was too short. These jeans have an 11 1/2″ rise, which is the highest rise I own, and even with these, it looks a little skimpy, in my opinion.

VERDICT: I returned this one, as well. I guess I struck out with Sézane sweaters, but the quality is there, so I would try others.
BTFBM Oversized Sweater Maxi Dress in Army Green
at Amazon (M) // Dolce Vita Annika (8) (option)

DETAILS: Stay On-Trend With This Long Sweater Dress. Pair It With Sneaker For a Cozy And Chic Look, Or Dress It Up With Heels And Statement Jewelry For a Night Out On The Town.
- 50% Viscose, 22% Nylon, 28% Polyester
- Machine Wash
Okay, I took a chance on an Amazon sweater dress, and what a happy surprise! This turned out to be a really nice quality, and the fit is even quite flattering. The knit is thick and soft, and not too clingy, and it even has some subtle shaping through the waist.
I thought the green in the size medium was a nice fit, but then I pulled on the black in the size small, and I think it looks even better!

VERDICT: I’m definitely keeping this one. I always like to have one black dress in my closet for potential funeral events… which may sound morbid, but as we all know, we often have little notice of such things, and it’s good to be prepared. I don’t currently have a good black winter dress, so this one is it.
CeCe Fair Isle Funnel Neck Sweater Dress in Light Heather Grey
at Nordstrom (M) – Limited-Time Sale $39.79 (59% off) $99.00 // Paul Green sneakers (8) // J.Crew earrings

DETAILS: Fair Isle patterning brings folkloric appeal to a cozy sweater-dress enhanced with a warm funnel neckline.
- Funnel neck
- Long sleeves
- Ribbed cuffs and hem
- 73% acrylic, 24% polyester, 3% spandex
- Machine wash, dry flat
This sweater dress is also really cute on—one of you actually made me aware of this one, and I was pleasantly surprised by how nicely it fits, and it’s an amazing price!

My only issues is, I don’t know what shoes I’d wear with it if I don’t wear the white sneakers, which I think look really cute. But it’s a cozy dress, and what if I want to wear tights and boots? I have nothing in my closet that is light enough (at least, not in cool tones that complement this dress—my caramel Sam Edelman pair is too warm of a color, I believe.)
I tried it with silver ballet flats, which I think works if I want to dress it up a bit more, but I still would like an option for tights and boots.

VERDICT: I’m tempted to order another color, so I can wear those caramel boots I have, but I do really like this one. What would you do?
AGOLDE Valen High Waist Organic Cotton Ankle Straight Leg Jeans in Hitch
at Nordstrom (29) // Jenni Kayne sweater (S) // rag & bone Walker Boots (39)

DETAILS: Nonstretch denim lends soft structure to high-rise, relaxed-fit straight-leg jeans that end at the ankle for styling versatility.
- Machine wash, tumble dry
- 28″ inseam; 16″ leg opening; 11″ front rise; 15″ back rise (size 29)
- 100% organic cotton
One of you, dear readers, also turned me on to these jeans. I swiftly ordered them because I wouldn’t mind having another pair of black wash jeans I can wear with flats.

I like the silhouette quite a lot; it’s more of a modern fit than my AG Mari slim straight leg jeans. But they are too tight in the waist, and the 100% cotton is not comfortable to me. They also seem a little too short. I’m wearing them here with my favorite rag & bone boots, which is definitely one of the pairs I’d want to wear them with. I think it works, although I wouldn’t mind another inch in the inseam length.

I also tried it with the Adidas Handball Spezial sneakers, to see how they look with the type of sneakers I would likely wear with them, and I find it annoying how the hem of the jeans gets caught on the back of the shoes.

VERDICT: I decided to send these back. While I like the silhouette in theory, they aren’t comfortable, and I’m not sure they really flatter me.
Adidas Handball Spezial Sneaker in Alumina/ Black/ White
at Nordstrom (8) // AGOLDE jeans (29)

DETAILS: A low profile maintains the range-of-motion comfort of a handball shoe reborn as a sneaker that pairs an upper of soft suede with a classic gum-rubber sole. A flexible rubber outsole provides superior traction wherever the day takes you.
Since I’m showing these sneakers, I wanted to give you a little more info. You may remember I got the brown pair from Farfetch, and I like them so much, I decided to order this black and white pair from Nordstrom. They’re kind of an off-white, which I like for winter, and they have a nice arch support.
VERDICT: Keeping, love these.
Jenni Kayne Shearling-Lined Moc Clog in Natural
25% off at Jenni Kayne (39)

DETAILS: Our take on the classic shearling clogs. As luxuriously cozy as slippers, but made to be worn anywhere. We know that comfort is key—with a cork sole that molds to your feet, you’ll never want to take these off. Suede with shearling lining. Handmade in Italy.
Finally, I mentioned that these were on my Christmas wish list, and they were. But then I realized if I have them now, I can report back to you while they are still on sale, so I ordered them! This is why I’m the WORST person to buy gifts for. It’s an occupational hazard, for sure.
VERDICT: I absolutely love these. They are gorgeous and luxe, and extremely comfortable too. The cork footbed will mold to the foot and get more comfortable with time, and the shearling liner makes them super cozy. If you want a luxurious gift for that boujee someone in your life, grab these while they are on sale!
My only caveat is, I wonder if I’d like the Saddle color better. I actually ordered it to compare, since they are still on sale, and returns are free. When I decide which color to keep, I think I might wrap them up and put them under the tree and tell Paul that’s one left gift he has to get me. Haha!

I loved the light grey sweater dress on you JoLynne with both shoe options (especially the metallic ballet flats). This is a problem for me also in trying to figure out how to wear certain outfits in our cold winters very similar to where you’re at. Bare-legged just looks ridiculous when it’s freezing outside and that would extend well into April where it just wouldn’t look right with the kind of weather we’re having. What is the solution? Are these outfits only to be worn in areas of the country where they have warmer winters? Even if you found an opaque tight in the light grey that blended well, it probably would look too much with all that lightness going on. Any ideas from you or anyone else?
Yeah, I agree with all of that. Maybe ivory tights and grey boots? But I have neither and I don’t care to buy them for one dress.
Put a pair of gray leggings under the fair aisle dress. I’m confused as you never do that.
I don’t own leggings, lol. I would maybe wear grey tights, but I’d need to find the right shade.
Cece fair isle sweater dress, get some charcoal knee high boots to wear with it. 🙂
I agree with Helena and Carolyn!
Thank you for trying out some items from Sézane! I have had a similar experience with it being a bit tricky for me to find the right fit/sizing. The quality of the items has generally been very good.
Side note, that rosewood color looks wonderful on you! Even though that sweater didn’t work for you, that is definitely a color worth looking for again.
Thanks, I agree!
Do you typically size up in the Mother denim? I tried them on once and my usual size was really tight but I don’t know if it was just that style or Mother just runs small? I’ve been wanting to try them again, I really like both that you had on today.
I find them pretty true to size, but they do vary some. It’s always a good idea to try two sizes and compare.
I love the gray sweater dress with sneakers but I had the same thought if you want a cozy dress you don’t want your legs to freeze.
I really like the light grey fair isle dress, but if you have more footwear in your closet that will go with another color, I’d make the switch. I agree with all of your comments on the different sweaters. I have an off white pair of Adidas sneakers with soft gold accents on the sides because like you, I feel like my stark white sneakers are too white for the winter months, except with certain outfits.
I had the same thought as Carolyn on possibly charcoal boots with the fair isle dress. It is tricky since all the colors in it are so light! They did have a light blue with a darker shade in the fair isle pattern but I think it may be navy which is also hard to match. It looks cute with the sneakers for a milder winter day – unless the sweater is too warm for that! The struggle is real!
Yeah, a darker grey could work, I just hate to go out and buy boots to go with a $40 dress, and I’m not sure I’d wear them that much.
Fully understand! I rarely buy something for just one outfit, unless the thing I need to buy is super cheap! What about something like this? Disclaimer, I have no knowledge of this retailer, it’s just one of the first that came up when I googled light gray knee high boots. Would something like that work for you weather-wise? Our winters are mild enough in the south that I never wear tights with boots, but I know you often do. If you’d need tights I probably would just skip it, since gray or ivory tights might look weird. Either way, I hope whatever color you buy next works better, it’s such a cute dress!
https://shop.lushfashionlounge.com/products/shiloh-knee-high-boot-light-grey
Those are super cute! Agree about the tights.
I would swap the gray sweater dress out for one of the other colors that you have boots to match. I think the latte heather beige color would look great with tights and boots (or just boots). It’s really a cute dress! I am on the hunt now for sneakers in a darker color. Over the last year or so I have started wearing sneakers so much more and I’m noticing that white seems too stark as well. I can’t decide if I should get gray/black or brown/tan. First world problems lol
I vote one of each! LOL – but first, go for the ones you feel like you are missing the most when you go to get dressed.
I love the grey sweater dress on you. I have 2 questions: what size are you wearing? What is the length of the dress? Also wondering how the grey would work with black tights and black boots? I thing the beige dress would look good with your camel boots
I’m wearing the medium; I didn’t try the small, and that might work too, but I like how this one is a bit roomy. It still shows my shape but doesn’t cling at all. I feel like black tights and boots would be too heavy for this. I agree, the beige dress and my camel boots would work. I actually think they would work with any of the other colors – they all seem to have some camel in them.
I ordered the same coated Kut from the Kloth black jeans in petite . I get them on Monday, hope they work for me , if not I am going to try your second option. Great try on haul!
Good try on haul . The reddish Sezane cardigan buttons up kind of weird- doesn’t align with the jeans zipper. The sweater dresses are really cute and look good on you.
It’s the way I’m standing, it does button straight up. 🙂
I love the light gray sweater dress. I was wondering about trying black boots as well.
Yeah, I feel like black boots would be too heavy for this color palette.
I think the fair aisle sweater dress would look fine with black knee high boots. Maybe with a lighter tight/stocking, like a dark grey. Your dark hair would help bookend, plus a black bag. Lots of similar looks online!
Oh I love that chunky knit Faherty sweater, but I rarely have the need to wear a sweater that warm. I also love to see you featuring Sezane. It’s becoming one of my favorites (although I only own one item at the moment) but I love to look through their website and catalog. The next time I go to Paris I want to shop in person. Too bad the Betty Cardigan was so short because it is a beautiful color and style. That light gray fair isle sweater dress seems impossible to style. It looks cute with the ballet flats and sneakers, but are you really going to wear it that way in your real life? You can definitely pull off the bare-legged winter look (your legs look great and not at all pale), but it seems like a contradiction to wear something wintery with bare legs and flats. If it were a darker gray you could pair with black tights and black boots or booties. Chocolate brown also looks pretty with dark gray. IDK seems like a lot of work for that one dress?
Too bad the Betty Cardigan didn’t work because it’s such a beautiful color. I love browsing the Sezanne website and catalog. Next time I’m in Paris, I want to shop in person. The light gray sweater dress doesn’t look like it will be easy to style. Will you really wear it with ballet flats in the winter in your “real” life? You can definitely pull off the bare-legged look, but would you want to? Did you end up keeping the gray striped sweater dress you bought at Evereve?

You commented about the rise on jeans going down, a lot of what is being ordered and coming into the store my daughter works for is mid and low rise, now this is a very on trend store that caters to a younger demographic so not sure how mainstream it will be, personally I love mid and low rise bc high rise just looks ridiculous on me, also her buyers are ordering a lot of embellished jeans and grey jeans for 2025 – It will be fun to see
Interesting! I am not surprised, my 19-year-old daughter is already looking for lower rises.
I feel your pain on the sweater dress. I love Ulla Johnson’s version but the price(!). I think a boot for sure and reformation has some nice opaque tights, not leggings. I swoon over Sézane and then end up sending a lot back. What I do love is their button ups and the mariner tops and sweaters. Did you know the embroidery is frequently free? Fun gift to personalize!
Good to know!
I love the wide leg mother jeans on you ! i think with a few inches trimmed off they’d be so cute with sneakers. Also, the grey sweater dress, I would just pair it with black tights and black boots (or booties) and carry a black handbag.
I purchased and returned the grey CECE dress for the same reason – which color of boots to wear.
The other dress colors wouldnt look good on me.
It is really cute and a great price but I couldn’t make it work, and sneakers just arent my style for the office, which is why I’m looking for this type of dress.
Bummer 🙂
Yeah, I don’t like the other colors quite as well, but I did get the blue one.
