Fall Weekend in New England

Paul and I had a great time last Saturday exploring some of our old haunts with our daughter who is at college in Massachusetts. We had time to kill that morning before meeting up with her, so we took a few pictures of my outfit.

sweater (S; also at Bloomies & Revolve) // similar jeans (6) // boots (size up half) // socks // earrings // crossbody (similar for less) // sunnies

I picked up this sweater during the #NSale last summer, and I’m finally getting to wear it. I love the ribbed knit, funnel neck, and batwing sleeves. It’s way more interesting than your typical pullover sweater. The currently pink on the website is different from the one I’m wearing here, but otherwise, it’s the same sweater. This sweater runs true to size; I have the small.

I paired this pink ribbed sweater with faded black skinny jeans. I wore these a ton last fall and winter, and I find myself reaching for them again now that boot weather is here. The 27″ inseam is perfect for pairing with ankle boots.

Good American jeans have such good shape retention, and they suck in all the fluff in my menopausal midsection. They also provide good shape and even a little lift to the rear.

Unfortunately this exact pair is an older style, but this pair has a similar fit with a darker black wash, and this pair has a similar wash but I can’t tell if they’re cropped or regular length. (Mine are the Good Legs Crop.)

These Blondo boots are new this season. I love the buckle detail, the subtle wedge, and the contrasting trim around the lug sole. They’re also waterproof.

I wore these all day walking all over the North Shore of Boston, and my feet were very happy. It was a bit of a risk to wear new shoes, but I had no issues whatsoever. Blondo for the win! These are the Black Nubuck, and I did size up half per the recommendation on the Nordstrom website.

I’m also wearing my grey Smartwool cable crew socks. I get a lot of questions about how to wear socks with ankle boots and crop jeans, and this is how I do it. I like to choose a color that blends in, or if you like, you can go with a fun pattern.

I kept my accessories simple with silver cable hoop earrings and my favorite oversized cat eye sunglasses, and I carried my Gucci Soho crossbody, which has unfortunately been subject to several price increases since I got mine a few years ago. This AllSaints camera bag is a great option for less; I love the minimalist vibe.

  1. Great outfit that you look nice in! I have a question that you can save for your Saturday Q&A: When selecting socks, that you don’t want to stand out, to wear with booties that are a different color than your pants, should you chose a color that blends in with your pants or the boots?

  2. Hi! This looks great on you! Very flattering. Question on your suggested items for triple points… have you tried the Vince pants you show? I have them and LOVE them, took them on a recent long trip and so I was curious what your thoughts on them were? Maybe they’re coming in a try on haul? Enjoy Wednesday!

  3. I love this outfit and definitely something I would wear. Good to know that the Blondo boots were comfortable while wearing them for the first time. Do the boots feel heavy or lightweight?

  4. My favorite kind of outfit, looks great on you! I really want that sweater but too pricey for me, if you run across anything similar in that pink/mauvy color can you let me know? That is my best color. Thanks so much!

  5. Love your outfit. When I texted you yesterday for the link as I saw you wearing it on Instagram I didn’t realize the wool content. :(. I can’t wear wool. You look great in the sweater. The whole outfit is perfect. Thanks for heads up on 3x points time.

  6. Love outfit!!! Guides hv been great!
    Perfect for winter day Chicago.
    Q and A question…
    Where can find nice trousers
    Other than leggings or short
    Straight pants.
Love a good pair heavy trousers with
those boots in the winter…for church
    Or events.

  7. Hi there!
Are you planning on doing a tall boot try on? I’m not sure what to buy and want to ask for a pair for Christmas 🙂

  8. Hi
Can you recommend a flat or low heel to wear with slim work pants? I can’t wear heels and
    can’t find a nice flat.
Also, for some reason, I have stopped receiving your daily emails. Not sure what happened.

    Thanks
