Fashion Over 40: Daily Mom Style 03.25.15

Welcome back to Fashion Over 40: Daily Mom Style, where I share the outfits I wore this week. I hope you find some fashion inspiration here.

I wore this outfit on Sunday to church. It was chilly, but sunny, and I am determined that spring has sprung, whether it feels like it or not. I love this lightweight sweater that I picked up at LOFT last spring. It’s perfect for this in-between weather. I wore it with my mint skinnies and blush ballet flats.

The Trellis Necklace is from the Stella & Dot spring collection. I’ve been dying to wear it for weeks, but it always seems too blingy for my simple life. I finally decided to wear it anyway, and I got several compliments so I’m glad I did. Because the necklace has so much going on, I just wore simple diamond stud earrings, and I added a small silver bracelet (a Christmas gift from my husband.) I love how it has the same turquoise stones as the necklace.

The Riviera Tote is from Stella & Dot as well. It is currently sold out, but I hope they get more in stock because it’s such a great summer bag with its metallic sheen, raffia texture, and roomy hobo silhouette. I was excited to discover how perfectly it matched my blush ballet flats from Payless. I love these shoes. My daughter has them in the denim, and we both find them so very comfortable. They’re very cushiony and soft, and I didn’t get any blisters or rubbing when I wore them for more than half a day on Sunday.

I wore this outfit last week. You’ve seen it before, more or less. The navy sweater came in a Stitch Fix a few months ago, and I really like the relaxed styling. This time I wore it with my olive green cargo pants (also from a Stitch Fix) and my new gold espadrilles. These are my nod to spring, ha!

I always put a tank top under this sweater because it is so short in the front. It’s a modesty issue, but it also helps even out the proportions of the outfit.

I accessorized with silver, although I realized later I should have worn gold to match my shoes. Not that it really matters; it’s fine to mix metals, and my watch has both silver and gold, but next time I’ll go with gold. I wore gold accessories the last time I wore this sweater, so I was trying to come up with something different. The Half Moon Earrings are from Silpada, and the Engravable Bar Necklace and Blessed Bangle are Stella & Dot.

On Saturday, I attended a blogging conference. It was chilly, and I was afraid the room might be cold, so I caved and wore a wintry outfit. I picked up this magenta cashmere sweater on clearance at Nordstrom a couple of weeks ago. It’s only $39, and I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of it next year. They still have a few left in various colors and limited sizes, if you’re interested.

The circle Duomo Necklace is Silpada. I love the simplicity and the way it fills the neckline without being too flashy.

I wore my grey coated cotton skinnies and black riding boots. I debated wearing ballet flats and decided I prefer this outfit with the boots. As you can see, we got a fresh coating of snow last week, and it just seemed sensible to wear boots. I thought the cobalt blue bag was a nice color contrast to the magenta.

I couldn’t bear to pull my parka out again, so I decided to play it chic and wear my leather jacket. I finished the look with my grey animal print scarf. I ended up wearing the scarf all day with the sweater, after I took off the jacket. Here I am, all ready to conference! It was nice to have a day out of the house and to spend it talking and learning with other bloggers… just what the doctor ordered after a snowstorm on the first day of Spring.

This outfit is one I am really excited about. The top was sent to me from Leave Nothing But Footprints. I’ll be telling you more about them in a future post. I love the detail on the top, and it’s a great piece for this in-between weather. I paired it with my tan moto-style skinny jeans.

The shirt has a relaxed fit and a trendy high-low hemline, so I decided to do a front-tuck with a belt. I went with brown accents in both the belt and ballet flats.

I finished the look with these tribal-inspired chandelier earrings from Stella & Dot. I’ve had them for ages, and I love them, but I’m always afraid they’re a bit too much for everyday, but this top seemed to call for something fun.

Finally, I wore this yesterday. It was a cold, cloudy day… the kind of damp cold that settles into your bones. I was trying to be creative with the navy and white striped sweater and the leopard scarf. I’m not sure I love the look. What do you think?

I wore brown flats and dark jeans, and I carried my bright spring green bag for color. I also added the orange bracelet for another color boost.

I ended up meeting my husband at the mall, and before I left, I switched into my brown riding boots because I was so cold, and I ditched the leopard. I just couldn’t get excited about it with the sweater. I wore my red wool peacoat with the outfit, and I felt like it was really cute. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture of that ensemble, but this post is long enough!

Are y’all SURE you don’t prefer it when I post each outfit separately? I’m surprised anyone makes it this far.

So that’s a wrap. Next Wednesday, Lord willing, we will be in Arizona when I post my Daily Mom Style! To say that I cannot wait is an understatement of epic proportions.

  1. My favorite look this week is the one wearing your moto jacket. I don’t love the stripes/leopard scarf/green bag…can’t put my finger on why, thought. I looooove he gold S&D bag!

  2. We are still getting snow here too and I’m trying to wear more layers versus my winter coat. I love the first outfit with the mint jeans and cream sweater. My other favorite is the purple top and beige skinnies. The detail on the sleeves is so pretty!

  3. I love every one of your outfits! I actually do like the stripes with the leopard scarf. Thanks for the great inspiration. I am hoping to find some things in my closet to use to create some of these cute looks.

  4. You look great in all the outfits (of course I have favorites like the mint jeans & the stripes & leopard)…but I’m learning to start wearing my “blingy & too much” things that I don’t usually wear for everyday—all the time. After losing my friend to cancer, I’ve learned that life (cliche, I know) is too short ….you might as well look great even if it’s only going to the store. Maybe everyone will start dressing up more if we start doing it??? jodie

ps…i like your blogs either way….when you show the whole week, it’s nice to compare the outfits—I just need to make sure I have the time before I start to read it. You should do what’s easier for you!!!

  5. Love all your outfits this week. The magenta sweater is so pretty and looks great with the cobalt bag. I would have ditched the leopard scarf too, but you look great regardless.

  6. I agree with you about the stripes and leopard scarf. Maybe an orange scarf to match your bracelet? I bet the red coat was cute! I love all your posts and get lots of good ideas from you. Thanks for sharing..

  7. I love the leopard scarf with the stripes. I think there might be too much going on with the green purse and orange bracelet. Add your blue purse instead, and see if you like it better. I’ve seen leopard and stripes together many times on Pinterest.
My fav is the magnets swester. It looks wonderful on you.
I liked the daily post but realize that it is time consuming. Do whatever fits with your busy schedule, Jo-Lynne.

  8. I read all of it! All in one or daily posts are both fine with me. And I’m totally ready for spring too!

  9. I look forward to this post every week so please don’t change it up! I still covet that bag of yours! And I agree – I didn’t care for the leopard scarf with the stripes – but I bet it was super cute with the red coat. And your hair looks great by the way! 🙂

  10. Can you please style the red boyfriend jeans you have worn from J.Jill? I have those and would love to see how you would wear them for spring!

    1. Hey Laura! Yes, I almost wore them yesterday but then I went with a coral pair. I was waiting for the weather to warm up enough to cuff them and wear them as capris. I feel like they’re kind of baggy when worn un-cuffed, but it’s only 30 degrees here these days. Crazy spring!
