Favorite Mules for Fall

Mules are one of the hottest shoe trends this fall, and they’re a great way to bridge the gap between summer sandals and winter boots.

While loafer mules have been around for a while and are still trending, we are also seeing the return of clogs and block heel mules, and I’m a fan! At 5’5″, I appreciate the extra height, and they pair really well with the straighter denim styles that are trending right now.

I’m also liking the variety of flat mules available right now. They aren’t all loafer-inspired.

Whether you prefer one or the other… or some of each, I’ve rounded up a bunch of mules of various styles and price points for your shopping inspiration! And if you’re one of those who can’t wear backless shoes, I also have a section with stylish alternatives to mules.

  1. I’m glad the tech support was able to get your blog back up and running so promptly. I hope that you had a good workout appointment. I really want to try a pair of clogs even though I’m not sure how my my weak ankles will tolerate them. I have enough mules in my closet. Ha! That sounds like I have farm animals. Have a great day!

  2. I have flat mules but am intrigued by the idea of clogs. I want to add a pair of tan or light brown shoes to my closet and had been looking at lug sole boots but haven’t found any I liked that were comfortable. Maybe I should get a pair of brown clogs instead! I don’t think I’ve worn a pair of clogs since the 70’s!

  3. I’ve always loved the look of clogs. Can they work with socks in the winter or would you only wear them in the fall?

  4. I like this look, but am I the only one who always feels like mules are going to fly right off my feet? I have a pair of Sam Edelman loafer-style mules from a couple of years ago and never wear them for that reason. Maybe I need some kind of grippy insole?

  5. This is why you are my favorite blogger. You spend a lot of time on research and finding options, and then you have so many types and selections, there should be something for everyone. I have very fussy feet. With my high arches, I cannot wear the flat mules, as cute as they are. The Dansko clog would definitely work for me.
I wanted to let you know that I was finally able to purchase the Vince short sleeve navy sweater at a sale price. I am so happy, and sometimes it pays to be patient!

  6. I am loving all the mules! And I’m so happy you got your blog fixed. As I sit here on day 11 with no electricity due to hurricane Ida, I look forward to reading your post every day so that something feels normal! You have no idea how much you’re helping me get through this ordeal. Thanks!

      1. Thank you. Yes, it’s quite surreal. Google Houma, LA or Terrebonne Parish to get a glimpse at just how devastating a category 4 hurricane truly is. But we will get through this!

  7. I love that clogs are back in. I had a pair years and years and years ago and loved them. I went on LOFT yesterday to order the taupe ones they have with the back strap……so cute, but the taupe is out of so many sizes….mine included. I waited too long. I love the cognac ones too, but I bought few months ago, some block heel cognac color mules and so don’t really need another shoe that color. I love flat mules too, but you do need to try on the styles to see which fit your feet and stay on. The Evereve or Everlane….don ‘t remember which place they were from, in black you recommended last year, I love and are so comfortable. Its been so warm here in NW Oregon, I still really need to be wearing sandals, but want to wear mules and closed in shoes and wear Fall clothes. Hurry up and get here Fall weather. 🙂 Great post with lots to choose from. I love shoes, so might have to take a closer look. 🙂

  8. Well it’s official: I feel like I’ve crossed the line over to the “I’m now an older woman” side. 🙃 I’ve tried wearing mules again but by the end of the day my feet are sore and achy & therefore my mood is cranky. All I want to wear is sneakers these days. I wore my TB Millers last Friday and by 3:00 my feet weren’t happy. I wonder how long it’ll be before ballet flats are back in style again? Those were comfortable to wear all day.
