What I Wore Lately Vol. 62

It’s time for another edition of What I Wore Lately, a roundup of my daily outfits from the past few weeks! I always get a lot of questions about how and when I transition my wardrobe at this time of year, and you’ll start to see that happening in this post.

I often move out the first round of the most summery things in my closet on Labor Day weekend, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. That will probably happen this week sometime.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ with an hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o.

What I Wore Lately

This outfit is from exactly two weeks ago. I worked for a bit in the morning, and then Paul and I went to test drive a car. As I mentioned in Sunday’s Coffee Talk, I spent a large part of the last couple of weeks in and out of car dealerships. It’s amazing how all-consuming that task can be! We ended up picking up my new car the day before Paul went into the hospital.

Anyway! It was a hot day, so I wore this casual shorts and t-shirt outfit. This tee has been restocked, and it’s a nice one for transition season. The dark color palette gives a nod to fall, while the lightweight fabric is comfortable for those of us still having warm weather. And these sandals are a really good price right now; I wear them all the time. They’re pretty summery, so I’ll be putting them away soon, but I definitely plan to keep them for next summer.

The next day was much the same. I worked for a few hours, and then I paid a visit another car dealer that afternoon.

I really wish ATM would bring this tee back; it’s so good for fall. You may be able to find one on eBay or Poshmark. If so, definitely size up; I have the medium.

On Friday, and we found ourselves visiting yet another car dealer. That was the day I found my car, but I didn’t know it yet. I did some try ons that morning, and these jeans were part of that. When I was done, I kept them on and threw on this black tank and sandals for the rest of the day. I love how the animal print bracelets take the casual outfit up a notch.

That evening, R had her first football game of the season. It was an away game, which we don’t usually attend, but we knew Paul would be in the hospital the next weekend for the first home game so we decided to go. Of course, I had to break out my band mom tee! This is from Zulily a few years ago.

The next day was rainy and muggy, and I had plans to meet a friend for lunch. Even though it was still August and school hadn’t started yet, I guess the Friday night football game had me feeling the early fall vibes. I pulled out this cashmere sweater tee from the #NSale to wear with jeans and sandals.

This is how I start to transition my outfits for the change of seasons — by incorporating one piece that’s a little more fall into my summer outfits. The cost of this outfit definitely adds up but I got the sweater, jeans, and bag for 40% off during the #NSale.

We went to visit Paul’s mom on Sunday. She wanted to see him before his surgery, and it had been a while since the rest of us had been there so R and I came along while D was working.

Monday was spent running around town. R had a list of things she needed for school, and I had an appointment to get my car appraised at yet another car dealer. In this crazy market, it ended up working out better for me to sell at one place and buy at another. Go figure!

The weather was hot again so I figured I’d get one more wear out of this summery outfit.

And that brings us to last Tuesday, the first day of school for R and D. After I saw R onto the schoolbus, I met Alison for a photo shoot. I wore this outfit to run a few errands on the way home; I’d been wearing a jacket on top for the pictures, but it was way too hot to wear it home.

When I got home, I changed into cropped jeans and sandals, and I spent the rest of the day working.

Last Wednesday was the day Hurricane Ida hit our area. It rained cats and dogs all day long, and I stayed in. R got home from school just before the roads got bad around here, and D’s afternoon college class was moved to Zoom. Paul worked from home that day, so fortunately none of us were out there when the roads started flooding. I’ve heard several harrowing tales from friends who were trying to get home that day.

The next day, the sun was shining and the heat and humidity were gone. It was weird how gorgeous it was outside, and yet so many people were still under water or cleaning out their flooded homes. I worked for a while in the morning before heading out to get my new car and sell my old one — two separate transactions at two different dealerships… that was a long day!

This adorable sweatshirt tee is still fully stocked, and it’s been marked down to $29.99! I love this top; it’s so cute, and it’s also nice for transition season because of the heavier fabric. I’ll be wearing it for a while longer.

Then were up and at ’em before 5AM last Friday to take Paul to the hospital for his surgery. I threw my hair into a clip and put on minimal makeup to get me through the day without feeling like a total schlump.

I wanted to be comfortable because I had no idea how long I’d be there, or if I might even want to stay overnight. These sateen utility pants were perfect because they look a little more elevated than my Vuori joggers, but they’re just as comfortable. I brought along my Prayanama Wrap in case I got cold. I actually took these pictures when I got home at 5:00 that night, so I was looking (and feeling) verrry rough!

And as if my day hadn’t been long enough already, I changed into my band mom tee and went to the high school football game to see R play in the band. I had to stay up anyway to pick her up when it was over, so I figured I might as well go and enjoy it. Fortunately, one of my friends was going with her kids so I sat with them, and that was nice.

That brings us to last Saturday, and I have no idea why I looked so cute. There is nothing on my calendar, but I must have done something. Oh, yeah… I went to the hospital to visit Paul, lol! I can’t remember if we did anything else or not, but R was with me so we probably ran by the mall or something while we were out.

It was a crisp fall-like day, so I decided to wear something a little more transitional. I wanted to wear this sweater poncho, which is unfortunately sold out in this golden mustard color, but it’s still available in black and ivory. I first tried it with my Mother Insiders, but I wasn’t sure I was feeling the flares with the voluminous top… or maybe it was the cropped length with the longer top, but something about this silhouette wasn’t quite cutting it.

So I switched into my AGOLDE Toni straight leg jeans. These are only an inch longer than the Mother Insiders, but I feel like it helps even out the vertical proportions of the outfit, and I like the straighter silhouette with the more voluminous top.

While I like the loafer mules with this outfit, there’s a lot of walking at the hospital, and they aren’t broken in yet, so I switched into sneakers.

We went back at the hospital again the next day, and the weather was still on the cooler side, so I broke out this new thermal top that I picked up at a local boutique the previous weekend when I went shopping with my friend. I found it online at Z Supply. They have free shipping, and a 21-day return policy with a $7 return shipping fee.

We all know the Mother Insiders pair perfectly with summer sandals, but I’ve been wondering how well they will transition to fall. I first tried this look with my black Everlane loafer mules, but I feel like they look too tailored with the slightly sporty top and ultra-casual jeans.

Next, I tried my Dr. Scholl’s sandals. I feel like this works. Even though they’re sandals, the heavy black fabric works for transition season. I also like the chunky sandal with the crop flares, and the way they help balance the extra volume in the top.

But I didn’t feel like clomping around the hospital in heels, even though these are actually very comfortable, so I ended up back in a pair of P448s. This time I pulled out the ones with the white and grey cheetah print tab on the back.

We finally got to bring Paul home on Monday, and I ran some errands on our way there. Our weather is getting hot and humid again, so I went back to sandals and a muscle tank with my Paige utility joggers. I added the camo print bracelet for a little extra pizzazz.

And then yesterday, I flipped the color scheme and wore an olive tee with black utility joggers. After working for a while in the morning, I headed out for a mani/pedi and to Home Goods for some fall decor and props for a photo shoot today.

And on that note, I’m off to get myself all prettied up before Alison gets here. As you can see from that last picture, I’m in desperate need! I let my hair go an extra day because I knew I’d be doing it today, thank goodness for dry shampoo!

  1. I enjoyed seeing how you’re easing into fall. I often do it with colors because it stays hot in Delaware through September. I own a couple of “fall” t-shirts in cotton or linen that I only wear in the fall so I’m always excited to get them out– rusts and dark greens. And I got my nails done in rust!

  2. I love all of the outfits, but especially the black muscle tee with the gray jeans. So chic! Plus I have those sandals. You may have convinced me to order those jeans!

  3. Always like seeing your what I wore posts and thanks for showing handbags with them as well! I just did my closet this past weekend.. took out the spring and real summery items and added my transition and fall pieces! Leaving a few summer items as it’s still staying warm! Today will be a pool day but not sure how many more we will have! I’m going to check out that nice green tee from Nordstrom love the shade!

  4. Congratulations on the new car! My head is spinning thinking about having to use two dealerships to get the best prices. Dealerships are not our friend! I benefit so much from reading what you go through, at times, to get the right overall look with an outfit, so thank you for sharing that process! I am going to check out a couple of pieces you shared today. Prayers continue for Paul!

  5. I like all of your outfits. While looking for an item you showed on the Nordstrom site, I decided to check my wishlist and some of the items were on sale again and/or available again. I ordered the Blondo lug sole boots with the front zipper that I think you got or tried during the sale. I ordered the light suede color but if I like them, I may go back for the black leather. At 62, I don’t know how I will feel in the lug sole, but it seems like a more conservative version than some. I also bought one of the twist neck tees that finally came back in my size. Plus a pair of sandals that came back on sale. Just wanted to give a heads up to your readers to check their wishlist.

    1. Good to know! I always like to give a heads up when good items go on sale. Those Blondo boots are ones I kept for the same reason, they are more classic than many of the lug sole booties out right now.

  6. I like seeing the transitions into fall. Rather than sandals what would you pair with the joggers as the weather continues to get colder? Is there anything to keep the ankles warm while wearing the joggers into fall?

  7. Great outfits. You are so good to get yourself dressed, even if staying home. Since covid I got way to use to leggings and joggers etc and so when I’m staying home I find it hard to put on jeans and normal top. I think it’s a bad habit I need to break, as I feel so much better if I dress like I’m going somewhere, even if I don’t. I’m afraid Fall/Winter won’t help the situation, with weather changing, if I don’t make myself break the habit. I love Fall and Fall fashion so don’t need to be buying clothes Im going to let sit in my closet. So starting today, jeans are going on. Lol. You are a good inspiration. :). PS. I bought a poncho type sweater from Loft too and can’t wait to wear it but I agree; I think the jeans have to be right to balance it out. That’s why I’m not giving up my skinnies. Have a great day and glad to hear all about your family and how they are doing.

  8. Thinking of ordering the Good American Good Legs cig jeans and was wondering what size you are wearing. TTS-6?
I think the color will be great for the fall.

  9. Jo-Lynne, Your writing style makes you so relatable (e.g. “… feeling like a total schlump.“ and “…didn’t feel like clomping around the hospital in heels”.) I can hear myself saying those exact same things! I just love your blog!

    1. I so agree. I love reading your blog. You are knowledgeable and relatable and your blog gives us alittle of everything.

  10. Love all the outfits, Jo-Lynne!! I’m looking at the olive t-shirt (Treasure & Bond). Love the color! Does it run true to size? Not sure if I should size down. It looks great on you but flowy on website. Prayers for Paul’s continued healing! Thank you for the try ons!

  11. What size do you where in the Chaser Sweatshirt T? I have been eyeing it for awhile and going to purchase now that is it on sale for such a great price. I love Evereve and hope you keep posting from them!

  12. Love the poncho sweater, so easy to wear and they can make and outfit so chic. Glad you worked out your car deal, it is such a challenge now for a lot of dealers in our area that are very limited with their inventory due to the “chip” problems. My husband ran a dealership for years and has seen many changes in the market but always treated the customer fairly. I hope Paul will progressively improve over the days ahead and feel much better.
