If you love fresh burgers hot off the grill, you MUST try this recipe for gourmet hamburgers. I adapted it slightly from Ina Garten’s, and it is fantastic. The egg yolks give it a richness, and the Worcestershire Sauce adds flavor. If it’s too mushy to form into patties, you can add some breadcrumbs (I use gluten-free) but don’t overdo it, or it will taste more like meatloaf than hamburgers.
If you eat gluten-free as I do, try these on Udi’s gluten-free hamburger buns! Lightly toasted, they’re more like a kaiser roll than a squishy burger bun, so they hold up well to lots of nummy toppings.
In this picture, I served my burger with Cotswold cheese, red onions (why are they not called purple onions???) and lettuce with a side of red peppers.
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
- 3 large egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- your favorite toppings
- Mix everything together lightly with a fork or clean hands.
- Gently form each hamburger into a patty.
- Grill over medium heat for 5 minutes on each side or until they are cooked to your preferences. Remove to a plate and cover with aluminum foil. Rest for 5 minutes and serve immediately with your favorite toppings.
ENJOY with a side of baked beans and homemade potato salad!
Oh, that sounds wonderful! We’re going out to dinner. When I said “we” I thought my husband meant the two of us. After I booked a babysitter for tomorrow night, he said, “I thought we were bringing the kids with us.”
I guess taking the kids to my Mother’s Day dinner would be ok. 😉
Have a wonderful Mother’s Day!
*making note of this recipe!*
Thanks.
Happy Mother’s day!
Have a happy mother’s day, we’re going out to eat!
OH Hello!!!
Ohhhh we use that recipe all the time. Just don’t tell you guests there is a pat of butter in each burger! 😉
Yes, spring is here!!! I am trying these tonight!!!
Those potato rolls are not gluten free.
Yeah, this was written in 2008. I went gluten free in 2010.
🙂
Yum…these look good. We went gluten free this month, but we did not really enjoy the buns. I think I am going to try to make my own…just havent wanted to invest in all the new “flours” needed for gluten free baking!
I am drooling. No seriously, I am. That burger looks so delicious!
What does the egg yolk do except bind? Can you taste egg?
Honestly, I don’t know! LOL. You can’t taste it, no.
