As we all know, holiday party season is just around the corner! I have a bunch of holiday looks I’m working on, but first let’s talk about the top holiday fashion trends this season.

None of these styles are ground-breaking or especially new for the holidays, but they’re having a moment this year, so this is a great opportunity to lean into the ones that most resonate with you. You may already have some of these in your closet, but if you want to pick up a new item or two to freshen up your holiday looks, I included shopping widgets for each trend.
Shimmer and Shine

Sequins, metallics, and sparkly fabrics are everywhere this season. Pair them with velvet or satin for a pleasing mix of textures. Crystal earrings, embellished pumps, metallic jeans, and shimmery blouses are all great ways to wear this trend this season.
Satin Fabrics

I’m seeing tons of satin dresses, skirts, blouses, and even pants this season. Also, shoes and handbags and other accessories are popping up in satin. While a classic look, like the one shown above with the satin dress and strappy sandals, is always appropriate, a more modern look is to combine a cozy sweater with a satin midi skirt, as shown here. This season’s trends are all about juxtaposition and unexpected combinations.
Luxe Velvet

Velvet is always appropriate for winter festivities, but it’s having a major moment in 2024. I love how it adds an element of luxurious sophistication to any outfit. It can be a full-on velvet dress or jumpsuit, a velvet blazer, or just a velvet trim sweater. It can also be an accessory like a velvet bag or shoes, and I also found a few pairs of velvet pants and jeans.
Embellishments

On clothing as well as shoes, we’re seeing lots of bows and sequin buttons and crystal details and other embellishments. Even subtle embellishments, like the crystal rope trim neckline on this sleeveless sweater, add interest and a modern touch to a simple outfit.
Statement Outerwear

Your topper is as important as your outfit, and this year it’s all about statement outerwear, even with casual outfits, as shown above. Faux fur coats and teddy jackets are still going strong this season, as well as long wool coats in bold and bright colors or patterns.
Monochrome

If you want a modern look this season, go monochrome! All-white outfits are huge this season, as are monochromatic looks in shades or red or pink or even blue, and you can never go wrong with all black.

I’m so glad I no longer have to get dressy outfits for holiday parties. No more for my husbands work and our friends keep things very casual. Even my church is casual. You’ve picked out some beautiful things. Have fun today.
For those that will have holiday parties to attend, there are a lot of great options.
I love looking at all of the festive clothing. I just wish I had more chances to wear dressy holiday clothes. The few opportunities I have are casual events. My go-to is black-coated denim (I added wide-legged pants to my closet this year) and a sparkly or shimmery top. I like to have a sleeveless, short-sleeve and long-sleeve option. I’m keeping busy today and avoiding all news reports/social media. My 14-year-old grandson and I will do errands together and then go to the Y to work out. I can’t think of a better way to spend my day.
Colleen, yes grandson’s are fun, I have a 17 year old. Its neat to hear their thoughts and ideas! They are so special!
Yes, coated black denim and shimmery top is my fave. I need to find new coated black denim, mine got too small. 🙁 Hope you had fun with your grandson!
I rarely have to get dressed up for the holidays, but these are some great ideas; I especially love the monochrome look. For our family Christmas get-together, we are casual…as in sweats! We relax and eat and drink all day.
Jo-Lynne, I must say that I LOVED the cream sweater/denim skirt/boot outfit on last Saturday’s email. Chic!
Ah thanks! That outfit is from last spring, I believe, but I still have all those pieces. When it gets cooler, I can’t wait to wear it.
I’m with you, CANT wait for election to be over ! I love all the sparkle and glitz of holiday fashion, but have very little opportunity to wear it. So I add a top or jewelry for festive casual. I LOVE those anthropology shoes!
Same for me, sadly. It’s fun to do these posts, tho! 🙂
Love the idea of having a satin skirt tucked in my closet to pull out for a special invitation. “ I think that one item could answer a lot of last minute, “Oh, my goodness, it’s a dressy event!” needs. Thank you for the heads up that this is the year to find one. Love the one you highlighted!
Yes, it’s finally Election Tuesday! Hopefully all those TV ads will go away! 🙂 My favorite holiday pieces are black velvet. I have pants, a blazer and a tank along with sparkly tops to add to the mix. I also use jewelry to turn it up a notch!! It’s supposed to be 80 degrees here in NJ tomorrow, so I still have my sweaters folded up on shelves, waiting to be worn!
Yes, bye-bye political ads! And I love a nice velvet piece to add to other everyday items. Jewelry is definitely key, as well. So hot here for November! It’s crazy.
Yes God bless America my prayer!
Thank you for representing us in Pennsylvania!! We will be watching from
Chicago!
Great choices all so elegant!
I love my black velvet you suggested last year and black pants …add sparkly
Jewelry and I’m good to go.
Jolynne do you think the gold metallic tops, dresses, skirts, etc are dated? I know silver seems to be trending but I still enjoy gold, especially around the holidays.
Hey Megan, gold is absolutely trending, all metallics are. Silver is sort of having a moment, or so they say, but I still see tons of gold options.
What color shoes would you do with an all burgundy outfit? Nude/black/silver? I’m not buying burgundy shoes!
Black or silver probably.
