2023 Holiday Fashion Trends

As we all know, holiday party season is just around the corner! I have a bunch of holiday looks I’m working on, but first I thought we should talk about the top holiday fashion trends this season.

None of these styles are especially ground-breaking or new for the holidays, but they’re having a moment this year, so this is a great opportunity to lean into the ones that most resonate with you. You may already have a lot of these in your closet, but if you want to pick up a new item or two to freshen up your holiday looks, I included shopping widgets for each trend.

Shimmer and Shine

Sequins, metallics, sparkly fabrics and bedazzled tops are everywhere this season. Pair them with velvet or satin for a pleasing mix of texture. Sequin earrings, metallic pumps, metallic jeans, and shimmery blouses are all great ways to wear this trend this season. I even found a sequin duster and jewel encrusted shoes.

Luxe Velvet

Velvet is always appropriate for winter festivities, but it’s having a major moment in 2023. I love how it adds an element of luxurious sophistication to any outfit. It can be a full-on velvet dress, or just a velvet trim sweater. It can also be an accessory like a velvet bag or shoes, and I also found a few pairs of velvet pants and jeans.

Kitten Heels

I’m loving all the lower heel shoe choices out there right now, and pointy toe kitten heels are by far the most popular for dressier events. You can find them in all different materials from metallics to suede, some have embellishments, some are plain, and I also found a few pairs of kitten heel booties that would work for more casual holiday events.

Statement Outerwear

Faux fur coats and teddy jackets are huge this season, as well as long wool coats in bold and bright colors or patterns such as plaid or houndstooth.

Satin

I’m seeing tons of satin dresses, skirts, blouses, and even pants this season. I love the juxtaposition of a cozy, oversized sweater with a satin midi skirt, for example.

Embellishments

On clothing as well as shoes, we’re seeing lots of bows and sequin buttons and crystal details and other embellishments.

Monochrome

All-white outfits are huge this season, as are monochromatic looks in shades or red or pink or even blue, and you can never go wrong with all black.

  1. This is so timely for me. I just went to our local Evereve store and purchased a holiday outfit. It’s a long leather skirt and a shimmery top. Thinking of wearing it with a bootie. Does it matter whether the material is suede or leather? Enjoy your day! Can’t wait to see your photo shoot!!

  2. I too like the oversized sweater look with a satin skirt.
Could you also do a post on more casual items to wear? We don’t go to dressy holiday events anymore and when I have Christmas with my kids and grands I’m in the kitchen a lot and dress more casual. Sometimes sweaters are too hot. One year we all started out in our Hanna Anderson matching Christmas PJs and never did change out of them. Lol.

  3. LOVE LOVE following you! Thank you!
Is white on white ok to wear for the holidays? Your model seems to be wearing beige or off-white?
Thank you so much! You are the best!!

  4. I love the look of a black velvet blazer so purchased one last year. Can’t wait to wear it with jeans or a dress/skirt. A certain classic! I also love the embellished buttons on a cardigan! And those velvet dresses you highlighted are divine!

  5. Great roundup! I appreciate that you showed overstated and more minimal ways to incorporate each trend. Now I’m just sad that most of my holiday parties are casual, this makes me feel like dressing up!

  6. I hope I get to wear my gold metallic faux wrap around sweater. For some reason it always feels too dressy. This year I plan to wear it. I like your options in the post. My favorite is velvet.

  7. What jewelry do you suggest wearing with a cashmere v-neck cardigan that has three crystal embellished buttons? Would you stick to just earrings or a necklace or both. I don’t want to look like I’m wearing too much bling.

    1. I like a necklace in a v-neck almost always. I would just make sure they coordinate and don’t compete with the buttons. Maybe go bigger with the earrings and a more understated necklace.
