My Daily Looks: What I Wore Lately Vol. 7

Happy hump day, friends! It’s time for an another edition of What I Wore Lately.

Every other week on Wednesdays, I post my daily outfits. This post is the answer to a question I often get: But what do you really wear?

What I Wore Lately: Everyday Outfit Ideas for Women Over 40

I have to admit, I get really bored with my winter wardrobe around this time of year, plus so much has sold out, so I don’t always have exact links to what I’m wearing. But I’ll do my best!

MY DAILY LOOKS: WHAT I WORE LATELY

As a reminder, I’m 5’5″ and usually wear a 28 or 29 in jeans and a small in tops. I’ll try to remember to give sizing notes where appropriate, but always feel free to ask! (TTS = True To Size)

This first look is one that I wore working from home on a weekday. This was the day my countertops were installed! I knew I’d be home all day, so I just wanted to be cozy and comfortable. This certainly qualifies!

This was another day at home, and once again, comfort and warmth were key.

This cashmere turtleneck is old, but it’s one of my favorites. It’s hard to see, but it has contrasting cuffs and hem, which are a subtle but very nice added detail. I grabbed it on an end of season sale a few winters ago, and I settled for the medium because the small was sold out.

If you’re looking for investment pieces on sale, Shopbop has some black cashmere turtlenecks as part of their Spring Event. My grey jeans are also part of the Shopbop Sale.

That night, a friend and I took our girls out for sushi and then to a prom fashion show at the high school. It was really cold out, so I switched into socks and booties, and I threw on this leopard sweater for a little more pizazz.

The next night was Saturday, and Paul and I went out for drinks and then met friends for dinner. It was another cold night, but this time I braved it with bare ankles.

Paul and I picked up friends at the airport on Sunday morning and then went out to grab a bite to eat. The weather was finally warming up a bit, so I broke out some cropped jeans and my leather sneakers.

I’m really liking this oatmeal/washed black color combo these days.

On Monday, I met a friend for lunch, and I decided to wear a dress for a change! See more of this look in this post.

I guess this was Tuesday. I wore this to run some errands and to work from home, and then I wore this exact outfit again last night to a meeting at my daughter’s school.

My stripe sweater finally went on sale, so it’s under $100. I recommend sizing up one from your normal, and be aware that it’s a bit cropped.

This was another day at home — I’m not sure if it was Wednesday or Thursday. Somewhere along the way, I spent a day or two in workout gear.

I love this pink sweater for transition season, and it’s currently an extra 20% off with code LIKEALION. Plus, my Agolde jeans are part of the Shopbop sale!

On Friday night, we took the girls to see Footloose at a local theater. I dressed up my favorite jeans with pumps and a ribbed cashmere sweater.

These pumps are old, but I love the oxblood color, and the heel is a bit lower than some, which is nice.

I spent most of Saturday at home, but we went out in the afternoon to our daughter’s jazz fest at a local high school.

It was a cold, blustery day, and I broke out one of my old favorite cozy sweaters and my OTK boots. I tend to forget about these boots, but they’re so comfortable and warm too.

That brings us to Sunday! We had church, and then we took Paul out to lunch for his birthday.

This sweater sold out, but I can’t stop wearing it. It’s so cozy, and the color is the perfect not-a-neutral but not-a-color either.

I recently heard somewhere that smartphone pictures look better if you take them upside down… so I had to try it! What do you think?

I spent Monday and most of yesterday wearing this… and at least one day last week as well. This time of year, I have such little motivation to get dressed unless I’m going somewhere.

Last night I threw on the stripe Reformation sweater outfit (shown above) to go to a meeting.

Sweaty Betty hoodie (on sale) // Lululemon tank // Sweaty Betty leggings (on sale) // Nikes // Adidas cap

And this is a bonus outfit. I wore it for part of a day, and I don’t even remember which one. I ended up changing because I was cold.

I love these sneakers, but after having them on for a few minutes, I realized they’re too big, so I took them off and ordered the next smaller size. They’re supposed to arrive today, so I’ll report back. They’re also on sale today — $50 off with code FASHION.

I’m actually working on updating my fashion sneaker review from last spring, so stay tuned for that!

Meanwhile, this hoodie is really cute for spring and summer. It runs small, so I recommend sizing up. I’m wearing the medium.

And that’s a wrap!

  1. Oh, I love those P448 sneakers! I need to try to see a pair in person to see if I want to spend that much. On the other hand, I seriously thought about a pair of Golden Goose sneakers, and these are like half the price…a bargain! 😀

I actually wore Vans yesterday w/ skinny grey jeans…the first time I’ve had bare ankles in months. I feel like we’re being teased here with the weather. Some hints of warmish temps, and then back around freezing. Sunday is supposed to be low 60s though. Woo-hoo! 🙂

    1. Haha, a bargain! I like how you think. 🙂 I do like the Golden Goose, but I ordered a pair (thinking I might feel differently about them this year – returned them last year) but I still feel like a try-hard. I’m sticking with the P448. Something about their aesthetic I really like, and I think they suit me better.

  2. The striped sweater and the Madewell sweater are my favorites.  I so wish that we had real transition weather down here so that I could wear more sweaters and/or long sleeve tops.  The projection is that we will have upper 70’s/low 80’s by late May.  What!!  I’d love for you to add at least one sentence to your descriptions, when y’all do something special, like the school jazz festivals, saying how it was, etc.  I sure hope that sneaker mules won’t date me, because I sure do enjoy wearing them and they make my feet happy.  We are having thunderstorms all day, thru the night and I to tomorrow.  The thunder actually woke me this morning.  Have a great day!

    1. Sometimes, a girl just has to wear what makes her feet happy. 🙂 I hope you survived the storms. We had bad storms the other night – Caroline was driving home in it. I was so relieved to see her home safely.

  3. I think for being a jeans and pullover sweater girl, you mixed it up nicely! I agree that this time of year I’m getting really bored with my Winter clothes! I’m looking forward to switching out my closet for Spring and Summer. Honestly, I didn’t see a difference in the two photos!

    1. Thanks, lady. It definitely makes it harder that I am pretty set in my jeans and pullovers. 🙂 I hate layering, I don’t know why. It just feels uncomfortable and restrictive.

  4. I always like to see what you’ve worn for the week.. I feel like I’m in the same boat right now. Alternating  comfy hoodies and sweatshirts with my leggings or wearing joggers and a long sleeve t shirt.. I only want to really dress if I’m headed out.. I’m so tired come this time of year of the winter wardrobe. We’ve had some milder days in the 40’s but still always a windchill and not quite warm enough to shed the coats. Please come early spring!!!

  5. Hi Jo-Lynne! What size are you in Everlane tops? I’ve never ordered before so don’t know how they run, but I’m usually the same size as you. Specifically, the cashmere tee. Thank you!

  6. So ready for spring and to pack away my heavy jackets/ coats/ sweaters/ boots/ _____ (fill in the blank). We get teases of nice weather in 50s then get a winter squall to remind us “nope, not spring yet”.

  7. Thank you so much for the kind words about Nashville on the intro to this blog post on your email this morning. The devastation in North and East Nashville, plus some communities to the east of town like Cookeville, is nearly unimaginable. Everyone, please show Nashville some love and come to visit us in the coming months and years and spend money and help us rebuild! You’ll love us–we’re friendly, and there’s lots of good food and nice people here.

On a more serious note, the pictures out of Cookeville are absolutely horrifying. I’m glad you are safe.

    1. I love visiting Nashville. If that will help you rebuild, I am SO THERE!!! 🙂 We actually have close friends moving down that way – they will be out a ways to the east, but we plan to meet up with them in Nashville on the regular.

    2. Nashville is my favourite American city and seeing the pictures on the news is just heart-wrenching. Saying prayers for people affected by the tornado. I, too, would easily help Nashville rebuild by visiting!!
