rag & bone Miramar Shorts Review

The viral rag & bone “sweatpant jeans” shorts that look like denim but feel like loungewear.

When I first heard about rag & bone’s Miramar denim-look line, I was skeptical at best. (If you aren’t familiar, the details of actual jeans are printed onto a soft terry fabric, giving you that classic denim look with the comfort of your favorite lounge pants.)

It sounded a little gimmicky to me, and I assumed they would look fake or cheesy in person—but that all changed when I was at the mall one day and happened to pass a rack of what I thought were jeans. I reached out to feel the fabric and instantly realized they weren’t denim at all.

They were, in fact, denim skirts from the rag & bone Miramar line. You might remember the try-on haul where I shared the Liquid Miramar Trompe l’Oeil Maxi Skirt last fall. I wasn’t crazy about the A-line maxi cut, but I loved the fluid, drapey fabric, and it was so comfortable. I said at the time that I’d definitely consider trying another piece from the collection… and well, here we are!

Today I’m reviewing the rag & bone Miramar Terry Walking Shorts, sharing how they fit, feel, and style—plus whether I think they’re worth the hype!

Fit & Sizing

rag & bone Miramar Terry Walking Shorts (also at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Shopbop, Amazon) // similar sweater // Z Supply Camino Tee (L) // Jeffrey Campbell Boast Boat Shoes (8.5) // similar bag // Tom Ford sunnies

I ordered my usual size M, and I’d say the fit is relaxed but not oversized. The elastic waistband makes them super comfortable, and the length is just right—long enough to feel covered but still flattering. These aren’t clingy or tight like some sweatshorts can be, and they don’t ride up when you walk, which is a big win.

Measurements:

  • Rise: approx. 11.5″
  • Inseam: approx. 4″
  • Leg opening: approx. 25″

If you’re between sizes, you could probably size down for a slightly slimmer fit, but I like the easy, laid-back silhouette.

Prefer a little more length? Check out the rag & bone Miramar Kaia Shorts, which have a 6.5″ inseam for extra coverage while still offering the same comfy, denim-look vibe.

Fabric & Feel

This is where the Miramar line really shines. The fabric is a soft 100% cotton that drapes beautifully and feels amazing against the skin—lightweight but not flimsy. They have that cool, broken-in look of vintage cutoffs—but without any of the stiffness or break-in period. These are the kind of shorts you put on and instantly feel comfortable in.

From a distance, they look like faded denim shorts with front pockets, zip fly, and distressing—but all those details are printed on. There are real back pockets, though, and they also have functional side-seam pockets, which is great in theory—but the placement is a little awkward. When you put your hands in them, the illusion of denim starts to break down, and it kind of ruins the visual effect. The photo above shows what I mean. It’s not a deal-breaker for me, but I wanted to point it out.

Pros & Cons

There’s a lot to like about these shorts, but they’re not perfect. After wearing them a few times, here’s what I love—and a few things to consider before you hit checkout.

Pros:
✔️ Super soft and lightweight
✔️ Look like denim, feel like loungewear
✔️ Real back pockets and functional side-seam pockets
✔️ Great for travel and casual everyday wear

Cons:
➖ Side pockets are functional but disrupt the denim illusion
➖ Not fooling anyone—up close, they do look printed—but that’s kind of the point (and part of the charm)
➖ Pricey for what are essentially sweatshorts—but the look and feel do set them apart

Styling Ideas

Because they read like denim, these shorts are easy to throw on with your usual warm-weather basics. I’ll be wearing mine with:

  • A simple tank or tee and sneakers for casual days
  • A lightweight button-up and sandals for a slightly more polished feel
  • A sweatshirt and Birks for lounging or travel

The Brooke wash that I have has a lighter, faded print that mimics distressing, so it leans pretty casual. If you’re hoping to dress them up a bit, one of the cleaner washes (like the Morse) might be a better bet.

Not into shorts? The Miramar collection also includes jeans, joggers, shirts, and jackets—all with that same soft, denim-inspired look and feel.

Where to Buy the rag & bone Miramar Walking Shorts

In addition to the rag & bone website, you can also find the Miramar collection at major department stores like at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, and Saks, as well as at Shopbop and Amazon.

Final Thoughts

If you’re someone who lives in denim shorts but wishes they were comfier, the rag & bone Miramar Terry Shorts are a great solution. While the price point is a little steep, it’s not as high as rag & bone’s actual denim, so it feels like a pretty good value.

Even though I don’t mind wearing actual jean shorts, I love how these combine the lived-in look of denim with the ease of loungewear. I can totally see wearing them for summer travel and for days when I just don’t want to put on shorts that button and zip, but still want to look pulled together. I really didn’t expect to like them, but I have to say, I totally get the hype.

  1. Thank you for reviewing these! How do you feel about the back pocket placement? I tried these shorts plus two different full length jeans styles, and they all seem to be very large and unusually wide set. I LOVE how they feel, but those back pockets have me feeling unsure.

  2. I somehow missed this whole concept! I admit I’m intrigued. Enough to order a pair, as denim shorts are my go-to in the summer. As my body has changed (notice I didn’t say “as I’ve aged”), I’ve struggled to find the right denim shorts, especially since I need shorter inseams. I imagine these would be much more comfortable on a 90F day than denim. Thanks, Jo-Lynne! Enjoy your trip.

  3. I have the shorts and two different style jeans and love them all. They wash well too. The wide leg jean have real front and back pockets which is great. I wear them all the time. The jeans are long though I bought she shorter “ankle” length and they are still long on me (I’m 5’ 4”)

  4. Thank you for this post!! I have been looking for a travel Jean for women. My husband has a pair from banana republic that are just so soft and they feel like sweats when he wears them. And he just loves them. So I’ve been looking for something like that. For travel. Can you recommend a brand that’s under 100.00?

  5. Safe travels on your trip! I wish I could wear shorts again but my legs are just not the prettiest anymore. 😢 But, can see why people like the ones you have on. They are comfortable! Everyone loves that!

  6. I wear sweat shorts around the house all spring and summer. Denim look alikes would be cool but no way would I pay 100 dollars. I wish target or Walmart would copy that concept. Surprised not a cheap version on Amazon. Lol.

    1. I found a cheaper version of the sweatpant jeans on Amazon. I had bought the expensive Rag & Bone ones. They are pretty close. WAY less expensive on Amazon though.

  7. there are some of the R&B styles that have front pockets rather than the side seam pockets. These also have a button and zipper which helps make the feel a little more like jeans but still gives the comfort of the soft terry fabric.

I have both the shorts an the straight leg jeans and lover them! So comfy and great for travel or out running Saturday errands!

  8. I thoroughly enjoyed this post and appreciate your honesty & in depth review. Evidently I live in a rabbit hole since I’ve never heard about this brand. While the price is up there, I am going to order a pair of the longer shorts from Amazon later tonight.
