Greetings and welcome back to 21 Days of Summer Fashion, where my friend Cyndi and I each share 21 outfits during the month of June for your summer style inspiration!
I love the juxtaposition of shorts with a long-sleeve or 3/4-sleeve top, so today I’m styling white denim shorts with pink tie hem sweater.
Now, don’t all my southern sisters start telling me they could never. ever. wear a sweater in the summertime. I get it. We don’t all live in a climate conducive to wearing this look in June, but most of us can do this at some point in the year.
We’re actually having a bit of a cold spell this week here in PA, so this outfit is perfect for us right now, but it’s also the type of outfit I like to wear when we vacation in Maine or on a cooler evening at the beach.
This tie hem sweater is a nice quality and feels good on, and it’s on sale! It comes down to $23.99 when you add it to your cart. I picked it up a few weeks ago, and I’ve worn it quite a bit. It’s also cute with cropped jeans and wedge sandals, and this gorgeous pink looks great paired with white or blue denim. For size reference, I have the small.
These white denim AG shorts are a few years old, but they’re still available in a few sizes at Nordstrom Rack. I really like the fit, and they’re nice and thick and not at all see-through.
For a similar version, Loft has their white denim roll shorts marked down to $35. I can’t vouch for the fit as I haven’t tried them, but they have a similar look to mine.
I thought these sandals were gone, and I’ve been linking to the similar gold boa pair, but I just did some sleuthing and found my plain gold pair at Lord & Taylor! Either way, you can’t go wrong with these gold thong sandals. They really dress up a simple look, and they’re very comfortable.
For jewelry, I like to wear a long necklace over a jewel neck top because it helps draw the eye in and down towards the waist and visually elongates the upper body.
This double pearl pendant is one of my go-to necklaces this season. The delicate, layered look is on trend, and this necklace works with both dressy and casual outfits.
I also added a stack of Alex and Ani bangles. As you know, I wear these a lot. I think they have a great casual vibe, and when you stack them, they make a statement without being overwhelming.
I carried this straw clutch for fun, although I’m usually more likely to want a shoulder bag with my casual outfits. This bag is really cute for going out, though. I love the color combination. I picked it up when it was on sale a while back; hopefully it will go on sale again somewhere soon!
I love this summery pink-and-white combo. It’s so cheerful and fun.
Yesterday when I was out and about running errands, I kept noticing women wearing pink and white. They said lavender was going to be the color of the season, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s pink all the way!

Hi JoLynne! I love this look! Yes, it would be too hot for the sweater for outdoor events in Georgia, but I would certainly wear it to the movies, restaurants and the always arctic grocery store!!! Pink and white is a favorite color combo and I love how you styled this!
Arctic grocery store… haha! So true.
Southern girl here and I absolutely wear lightweight sweaters with my shorts! I can usually get away with 3/4 sleeves, and that is only if I will be spending most of my time indoors, but I almost always need sleeves unless I’m outside a lot. I love this look and would definitely agree pink is still going strong! At least it is in my closet 😉
Yes, why is it so cold indoors in the summertime? You’d think they could find a happy medium.
What a great outfit! I live in Oklahoma and although it’s already hot here, I’d wear it this summer. I get cold in the movies when we go so this would be perfect. The whole outfit is gorgeous and looks great on you.
That’s a good idea… I’m always cold in the movies.
The whole look is cute. I love that clutch!
Thank you. Isn’t it fun!?!
You look great in this outfit! I do love the color of the sweater! Good luck with the packing.
Thanks, Ginger! Slowly but surely… we’ll get there!
Jo-Lynne! So I had commented on your Instagram post about this sweater and I bought it in Medium- then I went back last week and got the gray one too! I love it! Saturday night I wore this pink one with some chambray shorts and it was perfect for being inside the restaurant with a bunch of ladies! 😀 I wore the gray one with my white jeans and printed heels for church Sunday morning! So I can see getting a lot of wear out of these already! And I completely agree that PINK is the color this year!! (Well, it’s pretty much always a go to for me!) LOVE!!!
So glad they worked for you!
Jolynne, you look great in that shade of pink! You know, I was thinking about it just the other day and realized I have very few 3/4 sleeve tops. I think I am either too cold for them or too hot. That said, I took my hubby clothes shopping last night, and it was freezing in Nordstrom! I had a jean jacket in the car…not sure why I didn’t go get it. Perhaps I need to think 3/4 sleeves…woulda been perfect!
Yes, I hate being cold indoors.
You have started your 21 Days of Summer off to a Bang for me! LOL I see Fireworks in my future! Yesterday I bought those cute earrings at Macy’s and today I am buying the Tie Sweater in the grey. BTW you looked awesome in the dress yesterday from Macys. Congrats on your son graduating and have fun moving into your new house.
Thanks, Aimee! I appreciate that. I’m so glad you’re enjoying it.
Love the outfit. I just bought the sandals at Marshall’s for 24.99.
Wow, nice find!!! I wish they had online shopping.
JoLynne, not too many women past a certain age can wear white shorts…..YOU are an exception! Your legs have no signs of aging at all….no saggy knees, no crepey skin or varicose veins….you look great!
Oh, you are sweet. Trust me… it’s all there. Just don’t get too close in real life. Ha!
I have not been receiving your daily emails anymore. Do I need to subscribe again?
I had to update everyone for the new GDPR regulations. If you go to one of your old emails from me, scroll allllll the way down to the bottom, and click “update preferences” – it will open up a new page in your browser. Make sure the newsletters you want to receive are checked (daily or weekly), and then you ALSO need to check the box under Marketing Permissions that says, “Yes, I want to receive your emails!” Then click UPDATE PROFILE at the very bottom. If you do all that and do not get an email from me the next day, email or comment and let me know. I can fix it manually but I have to keep a record of your request. (Crazy, I know!)
