Welcome back to Spring Trends Week! Today we’re diving into the best and most wearable shoe trends for spring 2026.
To recap, I shared 10 Wearable Spring 2026 Fashion Trends on Monday, with a broad overview of what’s in and what’s fading in the everyday style world this year. Yesterday, we took a deep dive into the Spring 2026 Denim Trends, and today it’s all about shoes.

Spring footwear is leaning polished, feminine, and refreshingly practical this year. I’m seeing lots of neutrals with soft colors sprinkled in, lower heels, and slimmer, more minimalistic styles. Textures and thoughtful details are what really keep things feeling fresh and modern.
7 Shoe Trends Defining Spring 2026
As I see it, these are the seven shoe styles leading the way for spring 2026.
1. Slim Retro Sneakers

Low-profile sneakers continue to dominate this season and are leaning even sleeker and slimmer. Think slim soles, rounded toes, and a streamlined profile that feels lighter and more refined.
Miu Miu really put this silhouette on the map with their Plume sneakers, and now it’s showing up everywhere, from Gola to Veronica Beard.
Color is also playing a much bigger role this spring. Instead of stark white, we’re seeing softer, more wearable shades like cream, beige, sand, and taupe, along with subtle color accents and full-on color styles. White sneakers aren’t gone, but they’re definitely taking a back seat right now.
Within this trend, a few micro styles are also gaining traction:
• Sneakerinas, which blend the look of a ballet flat with sneaker-inspired details
• Sneaker mules, an easy slip-on hybrid that feels casual but current
I think these are a really fun, fashion-forward twist on the slim sneaker category.

2. Mary Jane Flats

Mary Janes are still going strong this season. Loafers and ballet flats are certainly still out there, but Mary Janes continue to be one of the most popular closed-toe flats.
This season’s Mary Janes tend to feature a narrower topline and often include fun details like studs or grommets that give them a slightly tougher, more modern feel. Overall, they’re looking more sophisticated than sweet.
I’m also seeing more square-toe versions, along with lots of perforated leather and raffia styles.

3. Slingbacks

Mary Janes aren’t the only classic making a strong return. Slingbacks continue to hold their place this season, and they’re showing up across everything from flats to pumps to sandals.
Pointed-toe silhouettes remain especially popular, especially with lower heels. The overall effect feels polished and feminine without being overly dressy. It’s a great option when you want something a bit more refined than a ballet flat or Mary Jane but just as easy to wear.
I’m also seeing slingback sandals gaining traction, particularly in delicate, strappy designs that work well for both daytime and dressier looks.

4. Strappy Sandals

Strappy sandals are everywhere this season, ranging from barely-there minimalist styles to slightly more substantial designs. The common thread is a delicate, feminine feel that works beautifully with everything from denim to dresses.
Lower heels continue to dominate, particularly kitten heels and modest block heels that offer a bit of lift without sacrificing comfort.
I’m seeing a lot of slide sandals with multiple slim straps set on a kitten heel, like the Sam Edelman Camille. These feel elegant, modern, and surprisingly versatile.
Asymmetrical strappy styles are also having a moment. Designs that crisscross the foot and include a back strap, like the Dolce Vita Mylee, add visual interest while still feeling minimal and refined.
Even flip-flop silhouettes are getting a dressier update this season. Think sleek leather versions, subtle heels, and refined lines rather than casual rubber styles.

5. Perforated Textures

As for texture trends, perforated styles are showing up everywhere this spring, adding both visual interest and practicality. From slingback pumps to Mary Janes, this detail creates a lighter, more breathable feel that’s perfect for warmer weather.
Beyond function, perforation also adds subtle texture that keeps classic silhouettes feeling fresh and seasonal.

6. Snake Prints

Snake print is re-emerging this season, but in a more refined and understated way than when it peaked in the late 2010s. Instead of bold, high-contrast patterns, we’re seeing softer, more neutral interpretations that read almost like a textured neutral.
This makes snake print surprisingly versatile. It pairs beautifully with denim, cream tones, black, and other wardrobe staples without overwhelming an outfit.
I’m seeing it across everything from slingbacks to sandals to sneakers, often used as an accent rather than covering the entire shoe.

7. Rattan and Woven Materials

Rattan may be one of the most noticeable material trends this season. It’s showing up everywhere, from sandals to flats to heels to sneakers, sometimes as the entire shoe and sometimes as a subtle accent.
These natural, woven textures add warmth and dimension while still feeling light and seasonal. They pair especially well with spring and summer fabrics like linen, cotton, and denim.
Some styles, such as the Myla Flats, have full rattan construction, while others, like the Sam Edelman Cora, incorporate smaller details, such as a woven footbed paired with leather strappy uppers. It’s an easy way to add texture and a relaxed polish to warm-weather outfits, and I’m here for all of it. This is easily my favorite trend of the season.

Great post and great ideas. I love shoes but with finicky feet it’s hard to find shoes that look current and are comfortable not to mention affordable. I think I will update my sneakers (still love my Paul Green and Ecco) but perhaps a more softer shade would be nice.
Loving slingbacks, they are actually my fave style for a heel that’s not a wedge. Snake print and low profile sneakers. I never used to be a sneaker girl and still prefer open toe shoes but the simple non athletic styles are appealing
Are metallic shoes in style at all this year? I have some Paul Green brushed metallic sneakers and wasn’t sure if I should wear them this Spring/Summer, or if they would look “dated”.
Metallics are around. Not a huge trend, but still relevant.
I was disappointed not to see any wedge sandals, as I love them for being easier to walk in than heels. I guess the fact that they’re not on the list means they’re not trendy. I like the low profile sneakers, and pretty much everything except the Mary Janes, which make my feet look too blocky. I have to say the low heels, while practical, don’t always do it for me, lol. I immediately gravitated to the snake skin Dolce Vita Izela 3″ sandals, which I’d definitely wear out to dinner or anyplace where I don’t have to do a lot of walking. 🙂
Just because something isn’t listed doesn’t mean it’s not in style. I just picked the 7 big ones that I’m noticing. Wedges are out there, not exactly trending, but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy (or wear) a pair if I loved it.
While I was in Target on Monday, I saw the Universal Thread Lina Sneaker. I have to say that it is a very pretty shoe, and it was in low inventory. I tried it on, but the width swallowed my foot whole. Last night I started looking online for something very similar, but haven’t had any luck yet. I also tried on the Universal Thread Ryker, which was also too wide for me and the toe area was not comfortable for me. As you’ve told us before, if there is something for Spring that catches your eye now, I’d buy it. Based on my observations while in store, women are already pouncing on things for Spring.
I bet. I think we are all more than ready for spring! 🙂
Love the raffia detailing! Such a fun accent for summer! I’ve always been drawn to raffia clutches/bags/etc, especially for vacation, and will definitely be adding some raffia shoes to the mix. Also, I think the perforated leathers will be a great option for summer for those occasions where sandals aren’t appropriate but regular closed in shoes are too hot.
I bought several of the shoes you’ve featured here! I really like the DV Delaney sneaker (colors are so fun), the Nordstrom brand brown perforated Mary Jane (has a flattering toe box), the SE strappy sandal w/ kitten heel, and the DV Mikel Mary Jane (I have in the light tan color). I also bought an espadrille Mary Jane that is so cute and comfortable (Sam Edelman) in both black and taupe. I really like the look of the Quince sneaker but it is sold out.
I went on a bit of a shoe shopping spree with a friend last month and I grabbed a lot. Still need to weed through and decide what I’m going to keep and what I will return but in stock inventory has been lower than past years so I figured it’d be better to buy and decide later at home which ones will work with my wardrobe.
Smart! It’s always easier to decide what you need when you can try things on at home with what’s in your closet.
Have you noticed black sneakers being worn more? I was shopping at Whole Foods this morning when a lot of the young moms shop and saw several wearing black sneakers (with jeans and with black leggings). They all looked super cute!
Hm, not really. Although I like the idea. I have that black pair with the fleece lining I’ve been wearing a lot. I’ll start paying closer attention.
It was the girl wearing the black leggings that caught my attention first because she had white ankle socks and then black sneakers.
Hm, that is interesting, with the white socks breaking it up…
I love this season’s shoes, too. I did buy quite a few last year, so I have woven, rattan, slingbacks, kitten heels, Mary Janes, etc, and I’d better use restraint. But those snakeskin flats!
Sneakers as fashion were not in my life since junior high in the late 70s, but last year I couldn’t resist the retro low profile Adidas in mint green and then chocolate brown. The creamy colors are very tempting.
I do like slingbacks and strappy sandals. Everything else is a pass for me. Which means I won’t be doing much shoe purchasing this spring. Which is probably good for me, keeps me from impulse shoe purchases. I realized recently that while many women are often guilty of aspirational outfit purchases, I am specifically prone to aspirational shoe purchases. I’m drawn to shoes that would be so utterly impractical for my day to day life. It is a blessing that I have an unusual shoe size, that helps contain my shoe habit. If I had an easier to find size, I’d be Imelda Marcos’s twin. LOL!!!!
Ha! We all have our weaknesses… mine is handbags. 🙂
I love snake print! I just received a pair of Adidas sneakers with snake print today from Nordstrom Rack.
