For a spring or summer date night, you can’t go wrong with a cute black top and crisp white jeans. I know I do this combination a lot, but it never gets old to me.
When I wear a black and white outfit, I like to bring in a color or pattern to add interest. Sometimes I do that with my handbag, but usually with footwear. Leopard always works, and red or orange look great with a black and white outfit, but this time I went with pink sandals.
I’ve had this cold-shoulder ruffle tank in my closet for quite a while, waiting for it to get warm enough to style it. We had a mild day last weekend, so I put this outfit together, and when I went to write this post, I discovered that this top sold out in the black. Womp! Womp!
It is still available in white, but sizes are limited. For size reference, I’m wearing a small.
Fortunately black cold shoulder tops are a dime a dozen this spring. I also like this, this, and this. And this is cute but not cold shoulder.)
SALE ALERT >> 40% off your purchase at Banana Republic online and in stores. No code needed.
I wore cropped white jeans so the pink ankle straps on my sandals would show. I like the added texture the deconstructed denim adds to the outfit, but of course you can sub plain white jeans if you prefer that look. These by Articles of Society are a nice budget-friendly alternative, and Banana Republic has a non-distressed pair that are 40% off today.
These are the same pink block-heel ankle strap sandals I wore with the black mock neck knit dress last week. I like how they pop against the white jeans for a fresh, summery look.
I probably won’t actually wear this combination until later in the season because here in Philly it’s still pretty chilly, but if you live further south, perhaps you’re already wearing short sleeves and sandals. It sure seems that way from my Instagram feed! I would throw on a denim jacket for a chilly evening.
When I wear pink shoes with a neutral outfit, I like to echo the pink somewhere else — even if just with my lipstick. In this case, I brought out these pink Baubblebar chandeliers. They’re old, but I also like these and these. (And yes, my eyelashes are real. People ask me this at least once a week, lol. I’ve been using that Rodan + Fields Lash Boost, and it is incredible.)
I carried this neutral hobo, but I wish I’d thought to grab my leopard clutch. I think that would be the perfect finishing touch to this outfit.
BR cold-shoulder ruffle tank (I also like this, this, this, and this) // J.Brand ankle skinnies (similar for less) // Steve Madden block heel sandals // ksny mylie hobo in rose cloud (city fog is on sale at Shopbop and pink granite is on sale at ksny) // earring alternatives here and here

Try Cafe M. A little French cafe on Bay St. Great for breakfast or lunch. Owned by a cute young French couple. A great time to come before it gets hot. We’ve had beautiful weather lately. Enjoy your stay.
Thanks! I’ll see how far that is from our hotel.
So fresh! I am glad you chose those pink shoes, really cute! May I ask what lipstick you are wearing? Its really pretty!
Sure! I combined two – my usual Nars lipstick in Rosecliff with MAC’s Pink Nouveau on top. And I always use MAC Lipglass in Cultured on top of all of my lipsticks.
I love the pop of pink with this outfit! I appreciate your reminder that the color of our shoes and handbag don’t have to be matchy matchy. I hope you and Paul will get out and enjoy Savannah. There’s way too much for you to see. You can lay by the pool later, in towns you’ve been to before. I can’t wait to see what all you went home with from your shopping.
You’re coming to Savannah at a perfect time!! The weather is beautiful, not too hot yet!! Flowers are blooming, which just adds to the beauty of downtown! Have a wonderful trip!! You should DEFINITELY do a few photo shoots downtown in the squares while you’re here!
That’s the plan! Can’t wait!
Fun outfit….you are completely selling me on those sandals!! I would not have thought them to be so versatile, but you keep proving me wrong!
Glanced at the marquee behind you… If you were in town, that Livingston Taylor concert would be a great date night… We’d be there 🙂
Yeah, Paul was saying we should go, lol.
Such a cute date night outfit!!
This is exactly the reason to wear ankle pants!!
Can you believe my mom (the 70’s model on my blog) just bought a pair and then lengthened them??? Oy!! Not that she has many ankle strap shoes, but still!!
I love this combination, Jo-Lynne. Of course I’m probably biased since this is how I like to do black & white—with a pop of color!!

Wow! Can’t go wrong with classic black and white! And you certainly kicked it up a notch with the pop of pink! I’m loving those earrings! ❤❤. The close up shot of your face, beautiful! I’m impressed with your eye lashes. If I worked outside the home, I’d give the product a try. I do daily makeup & always wear lipstick & earrings, but usually forgo eye makeup, unless I’m going somewhere other than the grocery store!! What a wonderful trip to look forward to. Our snow is dwindling, but we’re really socked in with the fog now. I had such high hopes for March, after such a mild January & February….. Have a wonderful day!
Yeah, foggy and gross here too this morning. Tomorrow is supposed to be nicer. CANNOT WAIT!
Wow! I love this outfit on you! I think it’s something a lot of us can wear. I like that the black top has broad straps at the top so no wardrobe malfuctions will happen.. The younger generation shows off bra straps but I could never!
I agree, this style is easy to wear while still being on trend. Love that.
Gorgeous combo especially with the shoes and the earrings. Your make up looks fabulous. ~Lisa
Thanks, Lisa! xo
Great outfit. I love all of your jewelry. I was wondering how do you store all the long necklaces and earings? My jewelry cabinet doors are not really long enough for long necklaces. I purchased those divided plastics storage boxes from Hobby Lobby for earings and bracelets and store by color.
I hang the long ones on the wall but I can’t find the exact piece I bought on Amazon a couple years ago. here are some options: http://amzn.to/2o1XEF0
I hang lingerie drying racks like this in my closet to organize my necklaces by color: https://www.containerstore.com/s/lingerie-drying-rack/d?productId=10025593&q=lingerie%20laundry%20holder
great idea!
Love the outfit. Your posts make me smile in the morning, Jo-Lynne. Thank you.
Hi Jo-Lynne,
Very pretty!!! Thank you for the variety of price points.
That look is awesome on you, Jo-Lynne! I seldom wear black on top because I look like death warmed over with black against my face. So, I’m wondering……could I reverse the black and white? Could I wear a white top and black pants and still be able to replicate your look? Or do you think that a black shoe would look better with the black pants but use a colorful purse and earrings to bring in that pop of color. Thank you for showing us how to “throw” in that pop of color and especially for saying that you would use a leopard print clutch instead with the pink shoes. I would *never* have thought of doing that!
I think you could totally reverse this look. I’d wear the pink sandals with black jeans. 🙂
I love this outfit. I’ve never thought of shopping at Nordstrom but between you and your sister ? Cyndi’s blog, I am definitely going to check it out. i want the exact top and jeans!
YOUR LASHES That is all!!!
LOL, right? I may have to start going to once a week. I already only use it every other day.
We just vacationed in Savannah last week. Great city. Our favorite things/restaurants-
Walking/Jogging near Forsythe Park
Eating lunch at Mrs. Wilkes
Having ice cream at Leopolds
Hop on hop off trolley tour
Take a tour through an old house
Hope you have a great time
Thank you!
I have a similar pair of sandals and I’ve worn them with a black top and white skirt. I wear them with shorts too. Thanks for the inspiration to wear them now with white jeans before summer gets here and I start wearing shorts.
I LOVE the shoes! They come in 9 colors and I like both shades of pink and the blue ones. Decisions Decisions
I know, right?!? I want another pair. Trying to resist.
