No doubt about it, sandals are a summer wardrobe staple. There are sandals for just about every spring and summer occasion — delicate, strappy sandals for formal affairs; trendy gladiators for lunching with the ladies; comfort sandals for those days when you’re doing lots of walking; and my personal favorites: wedge sandals for, well, everything else!

I am so excited to finally be back in heels after nine loooong months of recovering from two successive foot injuries, so when Payless challenged me to style a pair of sandals from their summer line, I went crazy trying on all the wedges. It was hard to choose, but I came home with these Oasis High Wedges.

The zippered ankle cage lends some edginess to the shoe, which I like, and the crossband keeps them secure when I walk. I’m just getting re-acclimated to walking in heels, so I definitely wanted a style that doesn’t require any extra effort to keep them on my feet. The twill lining and padded footbed keep them comfortable.

I decided to style a summer date night outfit around these shoes. One of my favorite looks for a summer date night is a pair of dressy shorts. I have these tailored black shorts that I picked up at Ann Taylor, and I wear them often in the summertime when we go out to dinner. I have several options for tops, but because these shoes are quite casual, I went with a simple ribbed tank top.

It can be tricky to find the right shirt to go with shorts because you don’t want a top that’s too long or it will throw off your proportions. I’m short-waisted, so I have to be especially careful of this. That’s why you see me wearing this tank so often. It’s shorter than most, so it pairs nicely with shorts and skirts.

Because indoor venues can be chilly during the summertime, I styled the outfit with a denim jacket, but of course it can be worn with or without.

I’m pleased with the sandals and how comfortable they are to wear and walk in. They would also look great with a maxi skirt or a pair of bootcut jeans.

I decided to accessorize with gold. I like layering delicate necklaces with a casual top like this. Then I just add gold hoop earrings and pile on a few bangles, and I’m good to go!
