The Perfect Fall Layer: Faux Leather Vest

I’m always amazed by how much warmth a good puffer vest can provide. I often wear one in the dead of winter over a wool or cashmere sweater, and I’m quite comfortable being outside without a coat. Make it faux leather, and you have the perfect sporty-chic layering piece to elevate all your casual outfits.

Leather and faux leather is a huge trend this season, and I’m a huge fan of a hooded puffer vest so when I came across this distressed faux leather vest at Evereve, I knew it was meant to be mine.

I love the distressed finish, flattering directional seams, and detachable hood. The matte black hardware and zipper pockets are also nice details. This vest runs true to size; I have the small.

Underneath, I’m wearing a lightweight long-sleeve henley tee in a glorious shade of rust. I love this color for fall, and I’m seeing it everywhere lately.

The henley style top is another big trend this season, and it’s a nice alternative to a plain t-shirt. It ups the style factor, and it also allows you to expose some skin in the neck and chest area, which is flattering on most women.

Gap has a good budget-friendly alternative in a ribbed knit, and it’s a little more fitted. I have both and wear them interchangeably.

And my jeans are the Good American Good Legs Cig in the a faded grey wash. I love the combination of rust and grey for fall. These jeans run true to size, and I love how they suck you in and never bag out.

I kept the outfit casual with my P448 sneakers, but ankle boots would also work. Another sneaker option is the Dolce Vita Zina. They would look amazing with this outfit, and if I’d had them when we shot this look, I would have definitely worn them instead.

This is one of those looks that is more of a formula than an exact outfit. You can swap out any of these pieces for something similar, and change up the colors to keep it looking different every time.

In fact, I recently wore this vest over a gold stripe boatneck tee with blue jeans. These jeans are on sale at Shopbop, by the way!

This picture shows a little more of the hood and how the vest fits through the back and sides.

And when it gets colder, I’ll wear it over cozy sweaters and turtlenecks, the way I wore this classic J.Crew style a few years ago.

  1. I am so glad that Becca’s party went well yesterday. This is a great outfit and one that I would call one of my “favourite uniforms.” Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians!

  2. Great look and I love the faux leather! I actually bought my first pair of vegan leather leggings this year from Banana Republic! I too would like to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadian followers 🇨🇦
