The Perfect Spring Transition Shoe

Last week, I wrote a post on shoe trends for spring 2022, and one of my favorites is the clog. These are the perfect transition shoe for this in-between season when we’re tired of our boots but it’s too soon to break out the sandals, and I found two great options at Zappos.

Free People top // KUT from the Kloth jeans // Steve Madden clogs // Madewell necklace set

I styled both pairs of clogs with straight crop jeans and a slouchy tee from Free People.

The details on this tee are really cool. I love the raw seaming, ribbed cuffs and thumbholes, and frayed accents for that super casual, lived-in appeal.

Unfortunately, the Red Ribbon color I’m wearing is no longer available, but there are lots of other options. This tee runs true to size; I have the small.

I like how the Steve Madden Hilde Mules in tan suede complement the retro vibe of the top, and the rivet trim and buckle are fun details. They have a 334 inch heel with a 34 inch  platform, so the heel drop is only 3 inches.

I find these clogs surprisingly comfortable, especially since they have a suede trim around the vamp of the shoe, so they feel smooth and soft against the foot. They run true to size, or size down if in between. I have the 7.5.

I also ordered the Steve Madden Brooklyn Clog to try, and they work with this outfit as well.

They aren’t as soft against the foot as the Hilde Mules, but they have a slightly lower heel with a heel height of 3 inches and a platform of 1 inch, making the heel drop only 2 inches.

These don’t have the fun buckle detail, but they do have square rivets and a woodgrain platform.  They also come in taupe suede, cognac suede, and bone leather.

While I appreciate how the low contrast of the tan suede against my skin tone (in the first look) keeps the lower 2/3 of the outfit cohesive, I also like how the black leather and my dark hair bookend this second look. Either one works!

  1. Love the outfit, especially the top! Beautiful color! I’m ready for the bright happy colors of spring! And the clogs, loved them “back in the day”, now I’m sure I’d fall and break something! But I have to say, clogs were always a comfortable footware item for me! Safe travels and can’t wait to see where you are going and the outfits you’ve got to style for us!! ❤️❤️

  2. That top is fantastic! I really like clogs, but I can’t wear a heel of any type over 1” so neither of those will work for me. While I like both looks overall, the tan colored clogs are more pleasing to my eyes. Have a great trip!

  3. Love the top! In the Zappos photos, it looks super long, but then it doesn’t appear as if you have a lot of fabric tucked into your jeans, Jo-Lynne. Is it as long as it appears? I rarely tuck except for a front tuck once-in-a-while so I don’t want lots of fabric. I like Free People but a lot of the styles don’t work for me– I love the boho look, but it doesn’t love me. The clogs are adorable, but I’m looking for clogs to slip into to run an errand. I just ordered Dansko Berry in navy suede. Fingers crossed.

  4. Great look! Nice to see some bright colors.. I’m tempted to try a clog ( I’ve never owned a pair ).
Have a great safe trip 🌴😀

  5. Yeah… I think clogs are a trend that I will let pass me by, ha! They just seem to cross the top of the foot at the wrong place visually for me. The shirt is nice though – glad to see some brighter colors!

  6. I recently purchased a couple of pair of girl friend style straight leg jeans. Since I am only 5’2″ they are of course too long and I plan on cutting them off. I was wondering what length would be the most on trend?

  7. How comfortable are the black clogs? I like the lower heel. I’m late reading this post as was gone for 4 days. Trying to catch up. :). Hope you are having fun on your trip.
