The Perfect Striped Straw Tote for Summer
Nothing says summer quite like a striped straw tote, and when they add a colorful pom-pom tassel, you have the perfectly accessorized summer bag! Today’s outfit was inspired by this adorable striped straw pom-pom tassel tote from Old Navy.
I was so impressed when this bag arrived in the mail. Not only is it adorable from the outside, it’s super functional as well. It’s fully lined with a zipper panel for any valuables you may want to protect and a wide patch pocket for your smartphone, and the faux leather handles add a nice warm contrast.
Best of all, it’s priced just under $40. In fact, this weekend it’s on sale for $35! FYI, it also comes in an orange/pink stripe, and that one is on sale for $18.
I’m obsessed with navy and white this summer, so when I saw this navy loop trim tee at Loft, it went immediately into my cart. I got it on sale, and yay, it’s on sale again! In fact the entire website is 40% off right now.

I’m kind of tired of all the linen tees, and I have a navy one I’ve worn a lot over the past few years, so this is a nice update to my summer wardrobe. It’s a nice quality pima cotton/modal blend, and I like that it’s thin and soft without being see-through at all.
I also like that it has a straight hemline, which I find more flattering and easier to wear than the curved ones. I did a front-tuck because otherwise it was too long and boxy left out.
For size reference, I’m wearing my usual small. I know it looks like it’s pulling a bit over the chest, but that’s mostly the necklace causing it to wrinkle. I don’t think a medium would fit right through the shoulders or waist, but I’ll make sure to lay it flat to dry. It’s 40% modal, which is a type of rayon, so it will definitely shrink in the dryer.
I think the loop trim on the sleeves is such a fun little detail, and the dolman style sleeves are a nice touch as well.
White shorts are such a great summer staple; there’s nothing else I can see looking as good with the rest of this outfit. Don’t be afraid to wear white pants and shorts! As long as they’re washable, you’ll be just fine.
You’ve seen these white denim cuffed shorts a gazillion times, and I don’t have plans to retire them any time soon. I absolutely love the fit, and the slight distressing adds some texture and keeps the look from being too sweet.
I decided this outfit was the perfect opportunity to pull out my pink thong sandals. I love how they repeat the pink tassel from the tote.
I’ve had these sandals for a few years, and while I don’t wear them a ton, they definitely come in handy when I want to pop a neutral outfit. They’re the same style as my gold thong sandals, and they’re very comfortable and easy to walk in. My snakeskin version is discontinued, but they have a Berry Suede that’s a similar color and would achieve the same effect.
My nails are painted with CND Indigo Frock, one of my favorite dark neutrals. I have the Vinylux on my feet and the Shellac on my hands. I love the Shellac for my manicures because it lasts two weeks and doesn’t chip. I had both done at the salon, but if you’re looking for one to use at home, go with the Vinylux because it comes off with regular nail polish remover. I also love it because it dries super fast.
For accessories, I added this tri-tone circle pendant since the top is rather plain. Unfortunately it’s been discontinued and I can’t find it online anywhere. Any casual long pendant necklace would look nice on this outfit. I actually think I’d like it better if it was a little longer, but I don’t have a necklace extender. I know!!! I need to remedy that.
I added a small stack of Alex and Ani bangles — my go-to for most of my casual outfits. I know these aren’t as popular as they once were, but I still love them.
This is such a simple outfit made up of mostly wardrobe basics, but the navy striped straw tote with colorful pom-pom tassel gives it an extra fun factor that finishes the look and takes it to the next level.
