Trend to Try: Blazer Coat

It went right from summer to winter here in Philly with about a day of fall in between, and I’m already breaking out my winter coats. While I was roasting the day we shot this look a couple weeks ago, I would be perfectly comfortable in it today.  This blazer coat came in my last Trunk Club, and it’s a great example of the styles trending this fall.

The trend in coats this year is menswear-inspired and a wee bit oversized, and this wool blend blazer coat fits the bill perfectly. I love that it comes in two classic colors (black and charcoal grey) as well as two more vibrant colors (light blue and jade green) for those who want more of a statement coat.

I do believe this coat is slightly too big for me, so I sent it back, but it’s a great choice for anyone who is looking to add a coat that is classic but on trend to her winter wardrobe. I’m wearing the 8, for reference, so I think the 6 would be a better fit.

Also, I found this coat on sale at Lord & Taylor! It comes down to $115.50 with code FRIENDS.

To showcase this gorgeous shade of blue, I wore it over a camel turtleneck and dark wash jeans. For the life of me, I don’t know why I didn’t throw on a necklace. This look definitely calls for long, bold pendant like this or this, or this would work really well with the leopard shoes.

I love how leopard print coordinates with a camel sweater, and these pumps are particularly gorgeous. I’ve had them for several years, and I always wear them when I want to add a bit of drama to an outfit.

I also really love this pair that I picked up recently with a chunky 3″ heel. It’s perfect for those times when I want a leopard pump that’s more walkable.

This bag is also old, but it’s a classic, and I often carry it when I wear leopard shoes. Mine is the larger size of this one, in the cardamom/royal navy.

Not ready for coats yet, or live in an area that doesn’t get that cold? Check out my newly updated Fall Jacket Guide for more lightweight options.

I think this is such a classy look for a fall/winter event once the weather gets cold. My turtleneck is old, but I really like this year’s Halogen cashmere turtleneck in the camel color. It would be less chunky than this one, so a bit of a dressier look, but still totally a classic.

  1. Love the light blue color of this coat. Winter can be too drab and sometimes needs some color to cheer it up! I only wish I could see the coat buttoned on you. I usually need to size up on a coat to give me enough room for heavy sweaters! This one looks big on you because the sleeves are a little too long, I think. Love the light blue with camel, I wouldn’t have thought to pair those colors!

  2. I love the light blue color of this coat, winters can be too drab and needs color to brighten it up!! I wish I could see this coat buttoned. I usually need to size up on a winter coat to make room for heavy sweaters underneath. I think this coat looks too big on you because the sleeves are a tad too long. Love the blue/camel color combo, I wouldn’t think to do that!! Here’s hoping the sun makes an appearance today!

  3. I love the color of this coat! So pretty on you! I always like my winter coats a little big so that I can button them no matter what I have on underneath. Did you know that a ganglion cyst is sometimes called a “bible” cyst? That’s because years ago they would take a bible and whack it to make it pop. Not that I recommend doing that…

  4. I feel for you with the foot issues. It’s so frustrating!  I’ve been dealing with an inflamed Achilles off and on for years, and most recently I developed “piriformis syndrome” (in the glute!). I have found that dry needling works wonders for me, during my physical therapy, for both issues. I seriously abhor needles and shots, but the dry needling is very different. I would actually look forward to the sessions, because of the relief that came so quickly with the treatment!!

  5. Your camel sweater reminds me of a question for a future Live or post. What to wear with camel trousers. Mine are ankle length, but it doesn’t really matter. I don’t do warm colors close to my face, but I thought it would be okay in pants. But I don’t wear them b/c I don’t know what to put with them besides a leopard scarf and black sweater.

  6. Our weather is taking us on a roller coaster ride as well, but not quite as drastic as up there.  It’s a miracle all of us are not sick from it.  I’m glad that your foot issue is something you can leave alone and live with now.  Larry had a ganglion cyst removed from his left wrist over 20 years ago. I really do like this outfit!  The powder blue is a very pretty color on you!  Are you going to get it in the smaller size?  The structured style of your handbag is fabulous!  I hope you had a good run!

  7. I noticed this style in the Talbots catalogue and reeeaaallly want one! They come in tons of colors, so that is a plus! Love this blue on you, it really pops! I also can relate to your foot issues. 🙁 About 6 years ago I had to give up running as I found out I have almost no cartilage left between my big toe joint and my foot on my left foot. I still do lots on the eliptical (no impact) and do lots of classes at the gym. Good luck with your physio!

  8. Such a pretty color coat but yes you could use a smaller size:) hope your foot feels better. I’m having some small issues with my left foot but since my daughter works for a podiatrist I should be in good hands.  Hard to not still excercise though😉. Have a good one.

  9. My Daughter had one of those cysts in her wrist several years ago. Had it drained twice & it kept coming back so we finally had it removed.

  10. You look so cute.  Love the color of that coat.  I just don’t know how to style leopard. I would have never put with that light blue but it goes.  Your under layer is all neutral with the pop of color with the coat.  Great job. 🙂  Hey….I hate to bother you with it, but did you post the link to your LIVE yesterday?  I can’t find it.  Thanks.

  11. First of all, oh my gosh, you look so fabulous!
Second, thanks for the link to the Jessica Simpson shoes.. love them..appreciate the budget friendly option there.
And third, this was certainly appropriate for the weather. We had snow flurries here in NB Canada! So I guess it’s officially time to start wearing winter coats. Thankfully, you got me excited about it with this outfit.

  12. I have seen some ads for a website named Melodress – have you ever purchased from this website? The clothes (and coats) look cute, but I wonder about the quality. There seems to be mixed reviews when I research. Any feedback you have on this website would be helpful.
Thanks for sharing your info with us everyday!

  13. Was late reading this. Love the coat on you. But do think you need smaller size. That entire outfit is great though.

  14. Bunion Surgery – Yikes – had it too. Had ortho bunion surgery – rods etc., one foot – will not have it on the other one. Going to try the simple one done by a podiatrist!

    1. I had the rod too. UGH. It wasn’t fun, but I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I didn’t know there was a simpler way, but mine was 25 years ago, so I’m sure they’ve improved the technique since then!
