Try-On Haul: LOFT + White House Black Market

Yesterday I found myself at a shopping center with a LOFT and a White House Black Market, so I decided to do some in-store try-ons.

I was specifically looking for more transitional pieces that we can wear now and also into fall, and I found a lot of goodies! It will be a long time before most of us can wear sweaters and boots, so these styles are a little more practical at the moment.

Let’s just dive right in! As always, descriptions are under the pictures.

LOFT Try-On Haul

LOFT Ruffle Cuff Tee // This tee is cute, the ruffle sleeve is a fun detail, and I like that it has a straight hem with side slits. This raspberry color is perfect for me, but I also like the celery color for something different. Best of all, it’s 40% off today!

LOFT Sustainable Style Destructed Slim Pocket High Rise Skinny Jeans // These jeans are really comfortable! I like the distressing and the wash a lot. I’m impressed with LOFT, they’re really upping their denim game. I can’t speak to how they’ll wear – they will probably stretch some, but the fit is good off the rack. For size reference, I’m in the 6.

LOFT Vine Flutter Cap Sleeve Shell // I love florals grounded on a dark background for transition season. This top looks great now with white pants (or I’d wear it with pink or light blue), and it will carry you over into fall with black pants and a cardigan or jacket on top.

It runs TTS; I’m in the small, and it’s 40% off today.

LOFT Modern High Waist Slim Pocket Skinny Jeans In White // I like these white skinnies a lot. They’re thicker than most and not see through at all (I’m wearing black underwear… if that tells you anything!)

The fit is nice from all angles, and I like the button fly. They run TTS for LOFT; I’m wearing the 6.

LOFT Snake Print Dolman Cap Sleeve Shirt // This shirt needs an iron, but I think you can get the gist. I really like the print, but the fit isn’t the best on me. That’s not to say it wouldn’t be cute on you, though. I just didn’t care for the hemline, and when I tuck it, it kind of balloons out and adds visual weight.

The model on the website has it knotted in front — I wish I’d tried that. It runs TTS; I’m in the small, and it’s 40% off today.

LOFT Leopard Print Piped Mixed Media Shell // I love the print of this shell — it’s such a pretty leopard. I also like that it has a straight hem — I feel like it front-tucks so much nicer than the ones with a rounded hem that hang long in the back.

This is another piece that stands alone or works well as a layer. It would make a great work wear piece. It runs TTS; I’m in the small, and it’s 40% off today.

LOFT Pocket Sweater // This sweater is sooo nice — it’s lightweight and soft and has a bit of a drape, even though it’s not a drapey style. It does have a relaxed fit, though, and it also comes in pink.

This is the small, and it has plenty of room. Sometimes LOFT sweaters can be snug, but this one is perfect for me in the small. It’s also 40% off today.

LOFT Chambray Tie Hem Blouse // This is a fun twist on a chambray top. I don’t usually wear them because I don’t like the typical collared button-up style, but this is really cute with the v-neck, tie front and blouson sleeves.

Also, the material is really soft and feels good against the skin. This top runs TTS; I’m in the small, and it’s 40% off today.

Floral Mixed Media Dolman Tee // So many floral tops… so little time! This is the one that came home with me. I like the closer fit, and while I typically prefer a more open neckline, this dolman style is always flattering.

The armholes are nice too — no bra peeking out anywhere. This top runs TTS; I’m in the small, and it’s 40% off today.

LOFT Roll Cuff Girlfriend Chinos in Intense Olive // These girlfriend chinos have that cropped straight silhouette that is trending, but they’re not too wide. I think they’re actually quite flattering, and you can cuff them to get the length you want. I rolled mine 3x.

For size reference, I’m in the 6. They’re a tad snug in the waist, but knowing how LOFT pants tend to stretch out, I think they’re the right size.

Lou & Grey Lightweight Terry Hoodie // I don’t think I’ve met a hoodie I don’t like, but this one is particularly good. Lou & Grey makes the softest clothes, and this one is no exception. I like the fit — relaxed but not voluminous, and the side slits are a nice detail.

It’s lightweight enough to wear now with shorts or even lightweight pants if you live in a cooler climate, and it will work well into fall with jeans and sneakers. It runs TTS; I’m in the small, and it’s 40% off today! Lou & Grey is rarely included in LOFT sales, so this is the time to snap this up! I didn’t buy it yesterday, as it wasn’t on sale, but I just put it in my cart!

also wearing: LOFT Roll Cuff Girlfriend Chinos in White (Love these in the white… kicking myself for not getting them yesterday when they were on sale.)

LOFT Sweater Tee // This sweater tee is a classic piece, and will transition nicely into fall, but it’s not terribly flattering on me. I think it would look better on someone smaller on top.

That said, it’s good quality, thick and soft, and it comes in white and lemongrass. I’m wearing the small, and it’s 40% off.

LOFT Floral Shift Skirt // I wanted to like this, but it has a slightly a-line shape, which is not my favorite. I prefer a straighter cut, and I wish it were a few inches longer.

I’m in the 6, and it zips fine, but it sits up pretty high on me (I’m short-waisted) so I think an 8 would look better — at least, it would allow it to sit lower on my hips, but it would also be wider still, which I don’t need.

All that to say, it’s not for me, but I’m sure it will be cute on someone, and it’s 30% off.

LOFT Striped Sweater Tee // This is the same sweater as the one above, just in stripes, and I tried this one in the medium. It’s okay, but I don’t love it. That might be partially because these pants aren’t the best pairing, although I love them… see more below. Both sweaters are 40% off right now.

Lou & Grey Cosmic Joggers in Deep Dark Grey // I didn’t buy these, but I wanted to. They’re soooo soft because they’re a tencel material. I like the cropped style and the rear pockets, and overall they’re just super cute and flattering. AND they are 40% off today! Again, Lou & Grey isn’t usually included in LOFT sales, so this is the time to buy.

I left them in the store yesterday (they weren’t on sale) but I’m tempted to order them now. I really don’t need them… but still tempted b/c SO cute. And also not jeans. As an aside, these would make nice travel pants. They also come in navy and olive, but I really like this deep grey. I’m wearing the small, for reference.

Lou & Grey Sleeveless Cowl Top // Super excited about this top! It did come home with me, even at full price, but I’m going to go back and get a price adjustment.

(The sales associate told me store policy allows a week to get a price adjustment… so keep that in mind when shopping LOFT. Just about everything goes on sale at some point during a week’s time.)

ANYWHO. You may remember that I had a very similar top last fall, and I loved it and wore it a ton, but it was longer than this one, and the armholes were deeper. This one is perfection, so I snapped it up! I love a sleeveless cowl for transition weather, and we have a long transition season here in PA.

It’s TTS; I’m in the small, and it’s 40% off today.

White House Black Market Try-On Haul

WHBM Shimmer Sweater Tank // I went to WHBM in search of a “date night top” for my dinner date with Paul last night. I ended up purchasing three, but I may not keep them all.

This shimmer sweater is simple, but I think it’s really pretty with my tan, and it would make a nice layering piece for fall. This is the small.

WHBM Mid-Rise Destructed Skinny Ankle Jeans // I like these jeans a lot. They were a little big in the waist (a problem I don’t normally have) and I’m in the 6, so they definitely run big. I like the wash and the distressing, although the whiskering at the hip is a bit much. I would put these on par with Kut from the Kloth quality.

WHBM Girlfriend Jeans // I can’t find these online, and unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the tag so I could remember the exact style, but I thought they were labeled girlfriend jeans. I like the wash a lot, and the cut is nice for a slim boyfriend silhouette. They’re a 6, for reference.

WHBM Metallic-Chevron Halter Top // This top is really fun for date night, and I wanted to like it, but the fit is a bit weird on me. This is the 6, and it was a little big around the arms, but the 4 was too small. I also don’t like how long it is in the back.

That said, I love the colors, pattern, the metallic bits, the tie in the back… all of that! I think it would be cute on someone a few inches taller with a smaller chest — how is that for specific?

I just noticed that it comes in petite… now I want to order the 6 petite and see how I like it! FYI, shipping and returns are free for petites, and WHBM is also Shoprunner eligible.

WHBM Metallic Dual-Neck Tank // I thought this was fun too, but I like the sweater better. This is another really nice layering piece, and it’s currently on sale for $14.

also wearing: WHBM Mid-Rise Destructed Skinny Ankle Jeans

WHBM Flounce-Trim Sleeveless Top // This top pretty much defines “transition piece” in my opinion. The color is perfect for fall, and the sleeveless style keeps you cool until fall weather actually arrives. I’ve also heard that ruffles will be trending this season, so it’s right on trend there.

I wish it weren’t quite so long, but it looks nice front-tucked, and the back doesn’t come down too far over the bum. I also brought this one home with me. This is the Madder Red, and I’m wearing a small.

also wearing: WHBM Mid-Rise Destructed Skinny Ankle Jeans and Snake-Cut High-Heel Pumps

WHBM Floral Mock Neck Tank // I love everything about this top — it’s the one I wore out to dinner last night. I love the pleated mock neck, the heavy lined material, the way it’s cut close to the body, the 22″ length, and the straight hemline. It’s also a small.

WHBM Mid-Rise Skinny Crop Jeans // I love these pants — I have a very similar style from WHBM a few years ago in a khaki color that I still keep in my closet and wear occasionally. I think these are so flattering, and I love the cargo/moto details.

I’m wearing the 6, and they fit snug, but they probably stretch some with wear.

WHBM Ribbed Sweater // This outfit is for those of you who need work wear. I love this citrine color, but it also comes in some nice neutrals. It’s definitely a body-con fit, so you may want to size up for a little more breathing room. I’m wearing the small.

WHBM Patterned Slim Ankle Pants // And these pants are super flattering. I have a really hard time finding slim ankle pants that have a narrow enough leg opening to be flattering on my stick legs, and these are perfect. I also love the color/pattern — such a nice change from solid black.

WHBM Graphic-Bodice Sheath Dress // Finally, I love this sheath. So flattering for an hourglass figure, and it’s also very comfortable. I’m in the 6, and it’s a bit snug. I would probably be more comfortable in an 8, but I didn’t bother trying it since I didn’t need this right now. I love it with these shoes too!
