Good morning! I hope you’re staying warm and dry. It sounds like the weather is a bit chaotic all over the country.
Today I’ve got a roundup of my everyday outfits from the past few weeks, and just to warn you, it’s pretty denim heavy. I hardly ever wear dresses this time of year, and it’s been cold and rainy/snowy much of the time, so denim it is!

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops and dresses, a 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.
What I Wore Lately: Two Weeks of Everyday Outfits
These pictures take us back to last year! It’s weird, in some ways it seems so long ago, but it was just two weeks ago today that we welcomed family in from out of town.
I had Pilates that morning, and then I wore this casual outfit for the rest of the day, which mostly involved getting our house ready for our guests.

I had Pilates again the next day; I’ve been going a lot since I quit PT, because that freed up some time in my schedule, and I always feel better afterwards. I usually wear some version of this outfit.

Vuori jacket c/o (S) // Zella tee (S) // Vuori leggings (M) // On Cloud sneakers (8.5)
Afterwards, I changed into another casual jeans + sweater outfit, but this time I opted for sneakers rather than boots. I love these new Vince sneakers. They’re super comfortable and such nice quality, and they come in a bunch of great color ways.
I kind of regret going with the Foam White/Night Blue because I have so many other sneakers in white/black combos. The Chalk/Pinegreen and Ferngreen both appeal to me, but I have a feeling I wouldn’t wear them as much as I do these.

Treasure & Bond sweater (S) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) (budget option) // Vince Oasis (8) (option) // Lagos earrings // similar pendant
I had some errands to run that day, so I topped it off with a sporty quilted jacket, and I carried my Think Rolyn Bum Bag, since I already had my stuff in it from Pilates that morning.

Z Supply On the Move Quilted Jacket (S) // Treasure & Bond sweater (S) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) (budget option) // Vince Oasis (8) (option) // Think Rolyn Bum Bag
I threw on this easy look the next day; I had a doctor appointment and otherwise just worked from home.

Equipment sweater (S) (option) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) (budget option) // LOCI sneakers (8)
And then that night, my daughter was performing with her band. We were told to wear sparkles and dress in a NYE theme, so I pulled on my velvet flares with the sparkle top from Gap Factory.

Gap Factory Shine Cutout Top (M) // Gap Factory Velvet Flares (29) // Marc Fisher boots (8) // Kendra Scott earrings
The size medium fits so much better than the small that I featured in this post, but I still felt like it was a little much for the event, so I changed into the Sanctuary sequin tee. It might seem dressier, but I felt more comfortable in a top that wasn’t as tight.

Sanctuary Sequin T-Shirt (on sale at Macy’s) (S) // Gap Factory Velvet Flares (29) // Marc Fisher boots (8) // Kendra Scott earrings // old Stella & Dot bracelet, option
I wore my vegan leather puffer on top, but unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture of that.
The next day was our Shane family Christmas party, and I wanted to be comfortable enough to manage all my hosting duties but still look somewhat festive, so I threw on this old favorite burgundy boatneck sweater with ankle flare jeans and comfortable black booties.

Naadam sweater (S) // MOTHER Hustler (29) (option) // Vince Hilda (8) // similar John Hardy hoops // similar pendant
And the next day, I wore this outfit to church. I love how the stripes in the sweater coordinate with the camel booties, and the medium wash denim relates to the navy in the sweater, but there’s enough of a contrast to be pleasing to the eye.

Rails sweater (S) // PAIGE Laurel Canyon (29) // Vince Hillside (8) // similar necklace // Madewell hoops // similar bag
My camel topcoat seemed like the perfect finishing touch. I should probably have these jeans shortened, but they don’t drag on the floor, so I’m not going to bother with that. These heels are 3 1/4″ and they are as low as I can go without looking sloppy.

J.Crew Daphne (6) // PAIGE Laurel Canyon (29) // Vince Hillside (8) // similar necklace // Madewell hoops // similar bag
Our New Year’s Eve celebration was just a last minute dinner with a few friends, and I dressed for comfort. I never tire of a simple monochromatic outfit.

Treasure & Bond sweater (S) // Fidelity Cher – exact/similar (29) // similar loafers // Jenny Bird earrings and necklace
Since then, life has been pretty ho-hum. I’ve worn my MOTHER Dazzlers almost every day because they’re just so comfy.

Nordstrom cashmere sweater (8) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) (budget option) // similar P448 John (exact) (39) // Jenny Bird earrings
Oh, look at me, I guess I wore the Hustlers once or twice too! I had a nail appointment, and I leveled up a bit for no other reason than I needed a reason to level up.

Sundry stripe sweater (1) // MOTHER Hustler (29) // Vince booties (8) (similar) // Anthro earrings // Bernardo puffer (M)
I snapped another Pilates outfit, just for the heck of it, but there’s nothing new here except this Hydro Flask tumbler that my daughter gave me for Christmas. I’ve been using it every day. It really does help me drink more water.

Vuori jacket c/o (S) // Vuori leggings c/o (M) // Zella Ava tee (S) // On Cloud sneakers (8.5)
And then I literally wore the same outfit two days in a row… and I have pictures to prove it!

old Vince sweater, option // MOTHER Dazzler (29) (budget option) // UGG mini boots (8) // similar earrings
This outfit is just so warm and comfortable, and it’s been soooo cold here lately, I put the same thing right back on the next day after my shower.

I changed that afternoon to go to an organ concert at our church. (Actually, I think I have this the other way around; I wore the all black outfit first, and then changed into the blue jeans and UGGs after we got home. But you get the drift!)
It was snowing, but I still wanted to look nice, so I layered on the black and wore my Blondo Sadie waterproof boots. They have good traction on the sole, so I was fine on the slippery pavement.

It was verrrrry cold and starting to snow, so I considered wearing that Vince faux shearling coat in the fig I’ve been trying to decide if I want to keep or not. (Splurge alert! I know… but I’ve been thinking about it since I tried it on in the store back before Christmas, so when I saw it go on sale, I decided to snag it.)
I don’t know why I didn’t take a picture, but anyway! It felt a little “extra”, so I threw on this Pewter Grey puffer jacket instead, and I actually really like how this looks. Plus, it was more appropriate for the messy weather.

And this is what I wore to church on Sunday. I wanted to wear the Aquatalia boots because of the snow, and I first put on my ivory fisherman sweater, which looked better because it added another neutral color to the outfit. But then I noticed a dark stain on the front, so I took it off and set it aside to go to the dry cleaner.
I didn’t have time to rework my outfit, so at that point, I figured my choices were a camel sweater or a black one, and I was tired of black, so I grabbed this camel one, but it makes for a rather plain outfit.
I also don’t really like the balance of proportions. It needs a front tuck or longer jeans, but I was out of time, so I went like this and told myself it would look better with my coat on top.

Equipment sweater (S) (budget option) // MOTHER Hustler (29) (budget option) // similar Aquatalia boots (8) // similar necklace // Madewell hoops
As I was writing this post yesterday, I thought I should rework that outfit and show you how I would improve it, but then I realized that I sent the sweater to the dry cleaner on Monday along with the ivory one. It wasn’t really dirty, but I wear it a lot, so I figured it could use a refresh. Oh, well! It was a nice idea, lol!
I wore this simple outfit on Monday. I like how the sneakers keep it casual and fun. I often wear wool coats with sneakers and a luxe sweater but it was super cold and I just went for my biggest puffer. I actually like the look. It works well with the sneakers.

The North Face Metropolis Down Coat (M) (budget option) // Jenni Kayne sweater (S) (budget option) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) (budget option) // P448 John (39) // Yurman earrings
Yesterday, I decided I was going to go for it and wear that long shearling coat. Alison convinced me when we were shooting on Monday, and I liked her suggestion to wear it with sneakers to keep it fun and not so fussy.
Not that I’ll never wear it with a dressier outfit, but I really love the look with the washed black raw hem jeans and sneakers. Plus, it’s just so warm and cozy.

Vince faux shearling coat (S) // Vince raglan sweater (S) (option) // MOTHER The Pixie Dazzler Ankle Fray (29) // P448 John (39) // Yurman earrings // similar pendant // similar bag
Underneath, I wore that Vince raglan sweater from the #NSale. I love this Tea Berry color, but it sold out. I always feel like wearing brighter/bolder colors this time of year, and it was the perfect pick-me-up on such a dreary day.
I debated the untucked or the front tucked version, but I think I like it untucked better. It just looks cleaner, and it’s not so long that it looks out of balance with the ankle-length jeans.

Just wanted to say how much I enjoy these posts – thanks for keeping it real ☺️
Thanks, Katie!
Sorry to hear about no power. Glad you have a generator. We do too but ours automatically comes on when the power goes out. It will power everything but we paid plenty for it. We got it a few years ago and they have gone up even more since then. It snowed here last night around 9 pm so too dark to enjoy it and it’s still dark this AM and raining on and off so hope it all doesn’t melt. I live in NW Oregon so we don’t get it often so when we do I get excited. I’m sure the schools will be late start or canceled. Enjoy your water. lol. On to read your post now. I’m sure it’s good. 🙂
Yes, that sounds so much easier! We priced them out when we first moved in here, and then again last fall, and the quote had doubled in 5 years! What we have works fine, as long as Paul is home to hook it up keep it full of gas, but we are concerned about what would happen if he were traveling and we lost power. So we might end up going ahead with it.
I also love my Mother Dazzlers, the rise is perfect since I am 5’3 and short waisted. My original pair had a finished hem but I cut them, now I want another pair. Do you have a link to the Dazzlers with a finished hem? Thanks, BTW love your blog!
Sure, there’s this pair at Nordstrom and this pair at Bloomies.
We woke up to a bit of snow but we have ice pellets and rain with high winds moving in this afternoon!
It’s been so cold lately that I’ve been wearing my Ugg minis ( which h I always wear with bate feet) no need for socks ! But I often have a bit of a gap with my choice of jeans! What sock would you suggest to help close the gap? I see other bloggers wearing socks but not sure if it’s age appropriate for me in my 50’s
You can certainly wear socks if you like! There’s no age limit on socks. 🙂 I love the J.Crew cashmere crew socks, but they’re pricey. UGG makes socks. Or there are these at Nordstrom.
I enjoyed this post, and I thought the camel sweater outfit looked great! It didn’t look out-of-proportion to me. But that’s just me.
Great post as always. We got dumped on here yesterday just like you but most of Manhattan has underground power lines so our power doesn’t go out when things like this happen. Hope yours comes back soon!
To each their own, but: the thought of wearing denim (to me — and, obviously, someone with a more trim body type would feel completely different about it!) all day long doesn’t sound comfortable. I’ll take my Vuori leggings and that North Face coat for going out-and-about in this weather everytime instead (I mean: the Vuoris are pricey like being investment pieces, but they are sooo much better than the “trendier” athleisure labels and really do fit like you’re “wearing air”).
For a lot of us, jeans are comfortable and we reach for them every day. Leggings are meant for working out, period.
There are more comfortable alternatives to jeans that aren’t leggings, like ponte pants, for an example. But I also would make a case for wearing leggings out and about for casual errands and things. It’s not my personal preference, but it can be done in a way that looks polished and put together. Let’s extend some grace and allow for differing opinions.
I sure do enjoy these posts! It proves that like us you have days where it takes a few trys to get an outfit just right. I’m hoping that the time will come where I find my denim to be as comfortable as my sweats.
I wouldn’t say they’re as comfortable as sweats, but I do find certain styles and brands comfortable enough for everyday. To me, MOTHER denim is soft and stretchy enough to hang out around the house in. But I have some jeans that I change out of when I get home.
I also live in PA, up in the chimney 3/4 mile from Lake Erie! We have been pounded with high winds and rain. We lost electricity around 10 am yesterday and Penelec is now working on our street. We have a generator so it wasn’t terrible. Hopefully by tonight we will be back in reality! Does setting spray keep your foundation from rubbing off on scarfs and collars? I’m petite and that means everything is short even my neck. . . and it seems like all my jackets, scarfs, even hoodies end up with make-up rub off and I find it so annoying. . . suggestions?
Our power came back on over night, yay! I should try setting spray and see if it helps, but I do have that same problem. Sometimes I wear a scarf just so I don’t stain my coat. They are easier to wash than coats.
I hope you get the power back up. That’s why I don’t like extreme weather. I was so cold yesterday when a north wind blew in. Wind chills were in the 40s but the sun was shining. I hate the few real winter days we get like when we get ice. You must not be cold natured to be able to wear no show socks and sneakers in real cold weather. I wear socks and boots in 60 degrees and below. 😊
I’m actually rather cold natured but it never gets super cold here. And I’m rarely outside for long.
I am curious. What is verrrry cold for you?
I live in Wisconsin. It has been around 30 and that is warm for us. I had some family here from Florida and they were freezing. Sunday’s high is 2 and Monday’s high is 0. Good thing my company went back to Florida!
Yeah cold here is in the 20s. And it’s often quite windy or damp which makes it feel colder. But nothing like Midwest temperatures.
Yikes!!! Cold to this southern girl is anything below 50! We are in for some 20 degree days next week and I am not prepared! Totally agree about dampness in the air. I live a couple hours from the gulf so it’s always humid here. In summer that means steamy, in cold weather it means ice in the air. I don’t know how yall handle this all winter long, I’m too much of a wimp!
I think you get used to it. 🙂 People acclimate. One of my best friends moved to Florida after living her whole life in MD, PA, and MA. She says now 65 feels chilly to her, which cracks me up. That’s when I break out the short sleeves and sandals!
I like the sneakers and jeans look as well, but if I wear jeans that expose my ankles and sneakers this time of year, my legs and feet always get cold. And I live in north Georgia! I usually end up changing into boots or a longer bootcut jean or both! How do you wear that look on the very cold days you are describing without freezing?
I don’t know, I really just don’t think it feels that cold. I mean, there are days when I opt for boots because it seems too cold for bare feet in sneakers, but I don’t think about it too much. My car is in a garage, so I get in and drive somewhere without even seeing the out of doors, and then I just run from the car into the store or whatever, and back again, and back home. I’m not outside for long.
I’m in South Georgia and can’t go bare ankle! Glad I’m not the only whimp! Was coming to ask if I can still wear longer boot cut with athletic shoes or is that just wrong?
Well, you certainly CAN. There is no right or wrong with fashion; the question is, do you like the look? I think it can be done in a way that looks good, but it’s more of a challenge than finding boots that look good with them.
Great post. I love these. I need new jeans. I wear the same light wash straight all the time and need some without raw hem. But I like how the raw hem lays better. I don’t have any boot or flares and I shoujd but just don’t want to wear heels for casual. I’m ready for Spring for clogs and sandals again.
Hi! I have subscribed many times, but I never recieve your emails. I have checked my spam and junk folders, I’m not sure what is going on.
Teresa
Hi Teresa, that is odd because I checked my newsletter list, and it lists your email and says that all of my emails have been delivered. All I know to tell you is to reach out to your email provider and inquire. I wish I could be more help.
Really love the outfit with your striped sweater and camel coat, everything coordinates so nicely with those Paige jeans!
Enjoyed the post!
This is the first time I have noticed you mentioning the Vince sneakers. I really like them! How do you feel about them vs the gum sole P448 vs the ones from J Crew? Thanks!
I love them, they are so comfortable. The quality on the Vince is more on par with the P448 Monza. I like the J.Crew ones too but they aren’t leather, and not quite as high quality.
