What I Wore Lately Vol. 51

Greetings and happy hump day! Who else was cracking up that both Cyndi and I posted our tips for wearing shorts yesterday? I swear, we don’t plan these things.

Speaking of shorts, I met up with Alison yesterday, and we shot 10 or 12 pairs of denim shorts for my annual denim shorts review post — so stay tuned for that. Normally I use mirror selfies, but I decided to have her shoot them this year.

Any-WHO! This post is not about shorts; it’s about my daily outfits from the past week, so let’s get right to it.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 136-138 pounds, with an hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

What I Wore Lately

This first outfit harkens back to last Wednesday, and I had to take one of the kids to an appointment. It was a warm day, so I took my new white Mother Insiders for a test drive, and I brought along a denim jacket in case I got cold in the doctor’s office.

I LOVE these jeans. The white denim is super thick and not at all see-through, but it’s also soft and comfortable. The high rise holds in all the jiggly stuff, and they’re super comfortable to wear all day. Spendy, yes, but I did manage to snag them on sale.

In fact, Saks is currently running a denim sale through Sunday, May 9: Save $25 Off your $150 purchase, $75 Off your $300 purchase, or $150 Off your $500 purchase with code WDENIMSF. These qualify for $25 off — not a ton, but it helps.

I can’t remember what I did on Thursday, but I got dressed and did my hair and makeup, so I must have gone somewhere. R’s indoor drumline performance was that night, but it started pouring rain so I changed into jeans and duck boots before I left the house.

These Paige Mayslie joggers are part of the Saks sale, so you can get $25 off. I recommend sizing down, if ordering.

I met Alison and another friend for lunch on Friday, and it wasn’t quite as warm, so I wore a spring sweater and straight ankle jeans. I wanted to be a little more leveled-up than my typical ripped jeans and t-shirt uniform.

And why am I so slouchy? Ugh, I’ve been trying to break that habit my whole life. I guess it’s a lost cause.

Paul and I met up with friends at a local bar and grille that night, and I wanted to wear something a little edgier than my daytime look, so I first tried swapping the white jeans for my black Good American skinnies.

I tried them with the Franco Sarto basketweave ballet flats, and it’s a cute outfit, but it felt a little too precious for the look I was going for.

I tried swapping the ballet flats for my AGL studded pointy toe flats, and that was probably fine, but I just wasn’t feeling the sweater and skinny jean combo.

So I reverted to my trusty Marrakech bomber jacket. I just feel like it has that extra little something that makes a fun date night look. (This jacket is on sale, by the way. It’s a little heavier than what I’d wear in the summer, but it’s perfect for spring and fall.)

I first tried it with that White House Black Market woven front tank. I would have changed out my jewelry if I’d kept this on, but I didn’t love the green jacket with the all black look.

I tried a couple other options, but in the end, I went back to the leopard tee that I purchased with the jacket. Hey, when it works, it works! Why do I keep trying to reinvent the wheel? I do not know.

I got this leopard tee at Evereve, but it sold out, so I’m linking it at Red Dress. Unfortunately, it’s almost gone there as well. I’m sure there are other similar styles out there that would work with this look. I just really like the colors and the scale of the print on this one.

Here’s a peek at the back, and and a better look at the details on the jacket.

I also like this jacket/top combo with my Agolde Toni frayed hem washed black jeans (that’s a mouthful!) but they seemed a little too rugged/casual for going out in the evening. I prefer them with sneakers for daytime activities. (See that look in THIS POST.)

Okay, so that brings us to Saturday! That’s the day R and I came out dressed like twinsies.

I took one for the team and changed into my favorite AGL tee and yellow denim jacket. I also changed sandals because they were so similar to hers. (She inherited my Marc Fisher studded flats from last year.)

We had church on Sunday, and we came back afterwards and hosted friends for lunch — we kept it casual with burgers and hotdogs on the grill. I could have just gone casual to church, but I decided to dress in my usual “Sunday best” and then change when I got home.

I changed into this casual skirt and muscle tee, mainly because I knew I wanted to get a photograph of it after our friends left. Otherwise, I’d probably have thrown on shorts, but this actually worked out well, and I was very comfortable. In fact, I like this skirt so much, I’m considering the camo version.

That brings us to Monday, and I had to go to the local magistrate’s office to contest a traffic ticket. Fun times! (It wasn’t actually MY ticket… but I went along for moral support.)

I wore the same top from church on Sunday, but this time I wore it with conservative black pants and mules.

I wore that outfit for a while after I got home; the pants are actually quite comfortable, but I eventually changed into a more casual outfit for the rest of the day.

Yesterday I had a morning photo shoot with Alison, and it was in the 80s by the time we wrapped up, so I threw on shorts and a sleeveless tee to sit on the deck and do some work (and get some sun!)

I changed later in the day to go to a hair appointment. It was still warm and sunny, but I was afraid I’d be cold inside, so I wanted to wear pant and a shirt with sleeves.

This leopard tee is from the #NSale last summer, and it’s long gone, but the pants are available at White House Black Market. They’re a great casual alternative to jeans; I just wish they had a slightly higher rise.

And that’s a wrap! I’m off to Nordstrom to source a sponsored post for next week. I’ve had really luck with items I ordered selling out before I could photograph and post them, so I’m going to go to the store and see what I can find.

I’d love to know if there are any trends you’d like me to style, or occasions you’d like ideas for. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  1. Love seeing what you’re wearing these days! My favorites are the outfit with the yellow jacket and the skirt outfit. We just completed week one of four in our latest lock down so I’m dressing up for any reason I can find lol. Today was the dentist and stop at the grocery store 🙌🏻.. I really like the styles on Red Dress and would love to see any finds you have with them!

  2. Hi JoLynne! Did you size up in the white Mother jeans? Sometimes I do with white denim. Thanks!!

  3. Love these posts – my fav! The yellow jacket is lovely. Gives your outfit such a nice pop of color and makes the look more “spring”. I am so glad you are able to have meals out, go to patios, entertainment on your back deck. I am glad you have some bit of normalcy. The stark contrast between the USA and Canada is unreal. We are back to harsh lockdown in Alberta: all hair & beauty salons closed for 3 weeks but who really knows for how long anymore; all restaurant patios closed (indoor dining has been closed for a while), schools shut down, etc…. Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec are on curfew and don’t live your province mandate. I look at American bloggers posting about attending wedding or baby showers, weddings or grads and am amazed. Good for you folks. Your vaccine roll out has been so much, faster, and efficient than ours. It has been a 14 months marathon. Enjoy your life, enjoy your visits and outings! Living vicariously through you! 🙂

    1. Hi Jen
I’ve been doing the same! We live in NS and a month ago our covid numbers were 32 active ( life as we now know it was fairly normal)which even then for us was high… we have done extremely well in this province and like yourselves have sacrificed greatly to do so. Unfortunately as of today our active cases are 1203. A social gathering caused the spread and unfortunately the variants made their way in before our vaccines could get ahead of it.. at least it’s being offered now to 40 and up but still a ways to go! Be safe and all the best out your way!

  4. I just got my Dolce Vita studded sandals and love the style and color (they’re the perfect shade of nude for my skin tone and oh so cute!) My only problem is that the straps kind of stick up on top of my foot when I’m just standing still…..but they fit well everywhere else (length & width). I sized up a 1/2 size and I’m wondering if I should size down or if that’s just the way they fit. Do yours stick up a bit above your foot?

    1. On a different note, did you end up canceling your Paris trip that was scheduled for this summer? The reason I ask is because I’m currently planning a trip to Europe for summer 2022 (Ireland, Scotland & 3 days in Paris/Versailles)….and so far I’m hearing conflicting information about vaccine verification (some sites say only a negative Covid test is required 72 hours before landing in Europe and others say a vaccination card showing proof will be required). What have you been told for your trip to France?

      1. I just remembered I never answered this. The apartment rental company extended their offer to allow us to apply 80% of our rental fee toward a trip during 2022. So hopefully we will get there at some point.

  5. I love the picture of you and Becca twinning! Isn’t it interesting how that can happen, but it shows that great minds think alike. Another saying that goes with the jacket and tee you bought together, is, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Because pants with a zipper and button aren’t comfortable enough for me to wear for an extended period of time, my brain has a hard time processing that you find them comfortable to wear all day. How did the contesting of a traffic fine gone for one of your young adults? Enjoy the rest of your day.

  6. Looks like you have a color theme you lean toward. All your outfits are black and new green. 🙂 lol. At least you can mix and match. 🙂

  7. Good Morning! Have you ever done or would you consider doing a post on how to “let go” of clothes you no longer wear or should get rid of but don’t? I feel like I have a large closet full of clothes but nothing to wear. I struggle with getting rid of things “just in case” I might wear it or need it. I need that push or convincing to let it go. This goes for shoes, costume jewelry etc…
    Thanks!
