Happy hump day, friends! It’s time for another edition of What I Wore Lately, which is a roundup of my daily outfits from the past few weeks. I also share a little about where I wore them and how they came together.
It’s that time of year when there are a lot of repeat outfits, and I’m not feeling terribly inspired in the fashion department. I love summer, and I’m not eager for it to end, but I’m definitely looking forward to styling fall outfits in a few weeks!
SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ with an hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o.
What I Wore Lately
I wore this outfit to work from home on a Wednesday a few weeks back. These sandals are on sale, and I love them. Super casual, easy to slide on and off, and surprisingly comfortable despite the lack of support.
These shorts are also on sale, plus an additional 20% off (25% off if you use a Bloomies card.) They run true to size, and they’re very stretchy and comfortable. I like the 4″ inseam — still short enough to be on trend but not so short as to feel like everything’s hanging out.
Also, this bracelet as well as my earrings are part of the latest Shaeffer Told Me To X Victoria Emerson collab. I was thinking it was black when I put it on with this outfit, but as I wore it through the day, I realized that it’s navy. It’s super cute, either way.

Goodness, the hair’s looking a little rough here! I think that was the day I had a workout, then I showered off but left my hair in a pony.

Alrighty, that brings us to the Friday before last, and Paul and I went to The Hooters concert out in Bethlehem, PA. I had this outfit on from the day, and I just kept it on for the concert that night.
The white shorts probably weren’t the wisest choice, especially since it was threatening rain, but fortunately it just sprinkled for a few minutes before the weather system moved out and left us with clear skies and a beautiful rainbow.

I wore this basic outfit the next day… as I said, I’m not feeling very inspired in the fashion department lately! Jeans and a grey tee (or sweater in the winter) is always my fallback plan.
We hosted friends at the pool that night, and I know I changed because I was too hot in the jeans, but I guess I didn’t get a picture, and I have no recollection of what I wore.

The next day was Sunday, and I wore this Eileen Fisher dress to church and out to lunch afterwards. This dress is a couple years old at this point, and it’s what I reach for when I’m feeling a little puffy and don’t want to wear pants that button and zip. I love the way it skims the body without clinging.
I kept the look simple with some delicate gold jewelry and my TB Miller sandals. I brought the denim jacket in case I got cold inside, and I was glad I had it at church.

I don’t have any pictures from that Monday; I’m not sure why, except I know we were running around like chickens with our heads cut off, trying to get ready to take C to college.
This next look was from last Tuesday. As I said, jeans and a grey tee are my fallback plan when I’m not feeling inspired. These jeans are suuuuper comfy, and they run true to size or size down if in between. The tee, on the other hand, runs small. I have it in the medium. It is deliciously soft and feels really good on.

I wore this easy outfit to do all the last minute things last Wednesday. I was planning to go straight from dropping my daughter at college to be with my mom for a surgical procedure, so I was basically packing for 10 days away. Her surgery got postponed at the very last minute, so I ended up coming back home with Paul, but until that point, I was in the mindset that I’d be gone for a while. So I spent the day Wednesday washing all my clothes and trying to prep the house for my absence.
This scoop neck tee is a recent Nordstrom find. It has a very relaxed fit, and it’s almost too voluminous for my liking, but it’s kind of nice for a change. The olive color gives a nod to fall, even though we are still very much in the throes of summer weather here in Philly. Also, these boyfriend jeans are on sale at Bloomies and Zappos, and they run true to size.

We drove up to Massachusetts last Thursday and stayed in a hotel overnight before moving my daughter into her dorm the next day. This was my travel outfit.

The next morning, we were up bright and early to move C into her dorm. I didn’t bother fixing my hair because it was hot and humid, and I knew we’d be working in her dorm room for a large part of the day. That turned out to be a very good decision; I would have ended up putting it up anyway.
This outfit is probably dressier than I needed to be for moving day, but I had an alumni lunch I was supposed to attend, so I tried to pick something a little more elevated than jean shorts and a tank top. It actually worked out well since these shorts are more comfortable than jeans shorts, and the top is lightweight and breathable.

That night, we got back to the hotel and rested for a bit before going out to dinner. I wanted to wear white jeans with this top, but I was um…. having lady issues, so I opted for the darker denim pair. I probably should have washed my hair and fixed up a bit more, but I was tired.

On Friday, we went back over to the college to help C with what we thought were just a few last minute errands and things. We ended up making another epic trip to Target and coming back and rearranging her room. It was another long, hot day, and I was roasting in jeans, but I survived!
I would have preferred the Dolce Vita slides with this outfit, but my feet were tired from standing so much the day before, and the Birks were the practical choice.

I ended up wearing that outfit for two days straight. After saying good-bye to C, we left Massachusetts around 5PM on Saturday night, and drove until we got to Norwalk, CT. By then, the traffic was moving at a snail’s pace as everyone tried to escape New England before Henri made landfall, so we stopped at a hotel for the night. We got up at 4AM on Sunday morning to drive the rest of the way home, and I just pulled on the same clothes I wore on Saturday and ended up wearing them all day.
It felt so good to shower and get ready in my own bathroom on Monday morning. I worked for a while and then took R to the mall. I decided I was bored with the same few pairs of sandals that I always wear lately, so I decided to give these Dr. Scholl’s a try. I ended up wearing them all day, even once I got home. They’re super comfortable and supportive, and with the black fabric and wood platform, I can see wearing these well into fall… at least until the weather cools down.

And that brings us to yesterday! I worked from home in the morning and then took R to Target for school supplies. I was juggling a gajillion things and didn’t even take time to add jewelry. I’ve had these Lagos earrings in my ears for almost a week, now!

And that’s a wrap. I’m headed out shortly for a workout appointment, and then I’ll be getting together with a friend later this afternoon. I hope to get some work done in between. I tell ya, I’m going to be happy to get back into a “normal” fall routine. It seems like years since I’ve had all three kids in school on a predictable schedule.
Have a great day!

Love the olive green shirt and boyfriend jeans. I like that this style is slimmer now.
Agreed!
I think we’re all getting lazy about fashion — especially for those of us living in places where it’s hot. I’ve had the Lagos earrings for 2 years. When I ordered them after seeing them on you, Jo-Lynne, I worried they were too spendy for stud earrings, but I have definitely gotten plenty of use out of them.
Yeah, this heat really takes it out of you! I spend most of my time indoors in the A/C but I still find myself wanting to wear my comfiest jeans and tees. I’m so glad you love the earrings too. They will last many years. I sent an old Lagos bracelet out for cleaning, and it came back looking brand new.
Great post. I like when you do these, as it shows us what bloggers really wear on a regular basis. You have great outfits for sure. I too feel non motivated with fashion right now, being in-between season. Well, its Summer but the mornings are starting to feel like Fall and our Oregon evenings are cooling off too. Gets dark so much earlier. I’m ready for Fall and Fall dressing but I find myself just living in my joggers etc. as I’m not going out and about a lot right now, as we are getting more restrictions again with the covid cases on the rise. I find myself not enjoying the outings, like shopping when I’m worried about….”Is this shopping trip worth the risk of infection etc. etc. ” I hate thinking like this. Anyone else. This last year and a half sure messes with the mind and I feel like I’m on a roller coaster and can’t get off. But, I have to stop and put it all in perspective, as many healthcare workers, teachers etc. etc. would love to have the option to stay home and be safer. I can’t thank them enough. You are not forgotten. I haven’t listed but 2 professions here, but there are many, like grocery workers, the truck drivers who bring the groceries to the stores and the list could go on and on. Okay, I’m done. I’m just so thankful for so many. Thanks Jo-Lynne for continuing to give us fun fashion each morning. You are such a good writer and brighten our days. How did Caroline’s area survive the storm and flooding? The news kept mentioning her area and I thought about her. Enjoy your day with Becca.
Hey Kathy, I agree, I’m so grateful for all those who are showing up for work in these trying times, especially those working with the public.
As for worried about being out and about with Covid on the rise, I guess everyone has to do what feels most comfortable to them, but now that we have the vaccine, I am far more worried about my 18 year-old daughter driving her a car around the Boston area than I am about contracting Covid. For that matter, I’m more worried about having a heart attack or stroke or getting cancer than getting Covid. Statistically speaking, those are bigger risks (for me personally) at this point. For now, I’m living my life as normal and taking it one day at a time.
Caroline’s area did okay – she’s far enough north that the worst of the storm missed her. To my knowledge, there was no flooding, just a lot of rain. And now it’s hot and humid again, and she is wishing she had a/c in her dorm! 🙂 Thanks for thinking of her.
Jo-Lynne…… you are soooo right. I agree with how you are living each day. I am one of those who can’t get the vaccine, so maybe why I’m being more cautious for me. Plus, I have a Fire Chief/paramedic for a husband bringing home who knows what. LOL Good perspective and thanks for responding.
So glad Caroline wasn’t affected. I don’t think we ever quit worrying about our kids/adult kids when driving. My adult daughter and family took off this AM on a 12 day travel trailer vacation and their trailer is huge and I prayed for their safety pulling it so far. 🙂 Mama’s are always mama’s. 🙂
Oh wow!!! I forgot about the NO AC dorms. I guess I figured by these days the dorms would have it. Boy, she must be HOT. Enjoy your day.
Oh, I see. Yes, then I can understand why you are so cautious. Hang in there. This can’t last forever… right!?! 😬🤪
Yeah I was surprised the dorm didn’t have A/C because it’s one of the newer ones but a lot of homes don’t have it on MA.
Thank you, Kathy, for thinking of me. I am a healthcare worker (respiratory therapist) on the front lines and you brought tears to my eyes! Just be cautious, but live your life!
And Jo-Lynne, I am grateful for your blog because I enjoy it so much!
I think that all of your outfits were great choices for what you had going on. Like you, I am not feeling to motivated with selecting my outfits these days. I honestly think the heat and humidity has a big impact on it. I hope that you are having a great day!
You looked great Sunday before last (raspberry dress). My husband and I were having lunch with my daughter and son in law on Bridge Street too! I recognized you right away! You have a lovely family. I always enjoy these “real life” posts.
NO WAY!!! You should have stopped and said hi. I would have loved it! 🙂 🙂 Next time, please do.
Love the post, can you tell me what size you have in the gray All Saints tee? I ordered the Spendid one in medium (always wear small) but all the posts said to size up and it was too sloppy looking around neckline, probably could use a small. Haven’t reordered yet, also like the All Saints one. Thanks!
It’s a small. Sorry the splendid one didn’t work for you.
no worries, I am just 5’2″ kind of narrow through shoulders and neckline anyway and often have this problem especially with v-necklines. Your input really helps so much as I have to order many things, we only have Belks in our rural area and would have to drive >one hour to any higher end stores.
Love the post, very helpful! I’m needing a gray v-neck tee but have trouble with them usually being too low cut on me. Do you think the Splendid tee or the All Saints tee would be a higher cut?
Thank you!
They’re about the same and both are a little lower than I’d like.
I always enjoy these posts. I love that you share your ‘real life’ with us, as we all can relate to wearing items on repeat, or the same outfit two days running and are often uninspired at the end of a season. The key is that you show us how to do it with style! Summer is my least favorite season as it drags on and on here in Northern California with many, many days in the triple digits. A few years ago, I started to hold back part of my summer clothes to bring out on August 1st so have have something new and fresh for the next 3 months of hot/warm weather. I use your tip of wearing darker tones once I get into the second half of our endless summer. Thanks!
Yeah, triple digits is beyond my ability to comprehend, lol. We think it’s hot when it tips 90 degrees. 🤪
Hi Jo-Lynne, just wanted to let you know that I bought those 7FAM boyfriend jeans last time that you posted they were on sale at Zappos and they are great; thank you for posting them! I’m back in the office (we are on a hybrid schedule) and my university job allows for non-distressed jeans on days I’m not doing trainings or presentations. Anyway, I hadn’t worn them until now and they are the perfect rise and leg width for me, a nice update from skinnys. All the students on campus are wearing the wider legged jeans in many different styles and I’ve noticed the same thing at my kids’ high school here in Northern California.
So glad you like them!
I always love these posts, seeing you “repeat” pieces that are your favorites! I spent all day today packing for a South Carolina vacation trip so I’m still in quite the summer mode! BUT, I got on my weather app and it’s 10 degrees cooler in Myrtle Beach right now (83) than in South Jersey (93)! Isn’t that crazy? I get to go south and cool off somewhat! HA HA! I packed all white shorts, white jeans, tanks, coral-colored and palm-tree inspired clothes for my trip. One last hurrah before Fall comes! Hopefully you can relax and enjoy your pool over the next several weeks.
Sounds lovely, enjoy your trip!
I always love these posts! Just not what you wore but on what occasion! Often the more laid back outfits are the ones we feel most comfortable in. I really like the olive tee and boyfriend jeans… it’s been such a hot summer and August especially that I can’t remember when I wore jeans last… today was 108 with humidity 🥵 heading to the beach for the day tomorrow it’s another hot one and may be the last time for this summer… who knows when we will see fall temps🤷♀️Maybe more into September!
108 whahhht??? Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that. I can’t even imagine.
