What I Wore Lately Vol. 81

Happy hump day, friends! I’m slogging through another week over here, and today I rounded up my outfits from the past couple of weeks. I’ve had quite a few “grace days” recently, where I don’t really do much besides pull on comfy clothes and stick my hair in a clip, but I did wear a few summer outfits worth documenting.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops, a 28 or 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

What I Wore Lately

Nothing new or exciting here, I wore this familiar outfit to get a mani/pedi. The jeans and tee are some of my most worn spring/summer wardrobe staples because the fit and feel is so good, and these Birks are new this season. I love unexpected color.

I had a photo shoot the next morning, and then I met a friend for lunch. I paired my new washable silk tee with white ankle flares and added neutral flat sandals, but I wish I’d worn heels. I have so many cute wedge sandals that would have elevated this look.

Frame tee (S; also at Neimans) // Mother Hustler (29; similar for less) // Dolce Vita sandals (8) // Yurman earrings & bracelet // similar bag here and here

When I got home, I tried a few other shoe options, and I like any of these better than the flat sandals that I wore. Not only do they level up the look, I also like these jeans better with heels. They’re an awkward length with flats.

The next day was the Saturday we went to Knoebels, where my daughter performed with our high school jazz band. It was a beautiful, sunny day with warm temperatures and low humidity. I pulled out this tie dye tank from last summer and paired it with my favorite denim shorts. And I have good news! I just found these shorts at Saks OFF 5th for a lot less! They are true to size.

The following Sunday, I wore this Eileen Fisher dress again. It’s from the 2019 #NSale and still going strong! I linked a similar style in the same color.

We had friends over that night for dinner, and I changed into this casual skirt and muscle tee.

I didn’t do much with myself the next couple of days, but my daughter and I went to the mall last Wednesday, so I took the opportunity to wear this new top that I just got in from Evereve.

Cloth & Stone shirred neck top (S) // Mother Dazzler (29; similar for less) // Dolce Vita slides (8) // similar necklace // Madewell earrings // Victoria Emerson bracelet c/o // Tory Burch hobo

Last Friday, I pulled on this top and shorts to run some errands after a photo shoot. I snagged this Frame linen tee for a great deal at Saks OFF 5th. I love a good linen tee in the summertime, and this color is a bit different for me. Unfortunately, it’s almost sold out.

Paul and I went out to dinner that night, and I tried on about 110 outfits before I settled on a simple white tee and jeans with some fun accessories. I was struggling to find something i was comfortable in. I’ve been having issues with my clothes fitting recently… ahem. Plus, I wanted to wear something fun for our first “date night” in a while, but everything is so casual around here, I always end up feeling overdressed. I finally decided to keep it simple, but here are some of the options I tried.

Look #1: LOFT Crinkle Ruffle Double V Top (S) // Mother Dazzler (29; similar for less) // old Stuart Weitzman wedges (8)

Look #2: Cloth & Stone shirred neck top (S) // Mother Hustler (29; similar for less) // old Stuart Weitzman wedges (8)

Look #3: LOFT Crinkle Ruffle Double V Top (S) // Good American Good Classic Bootcut c/o (6) // Dolce Vita wedges (8)

This the outfit I finally landed on, and yes, I know it’s very simple. But when I got to the restaurant, I was glad I toned it down a bit because everyone was pretty casual. Even this, with the heels and statement jewelry, felt a bit much.

But yay, I finally got to wear my bootcut jeans! I am so happy these are coming back into style… although I will say, I don’t see them much around here just yet.

ATM tee (M; similar for less) // Good American Good Classic Bootcut c/o (6) // Dolce Vita wedges (8) // raffia earrings c/o // beaded coin necklace c/o // VE Faro Cuff c/o // belt (M)

This is what I wore to church last Sunday. Nothing new here, but this classic Eileen Fisher tank dress is on sale! I recommend sizing down.

I changed into this comfy outfit for the afternoon and to hang out with friends that evening.

Maine Raglan Tee (M) // Mother Dazzler (29; similar for less) // Birk Siena (39) // Lagos earrings

I mostly worked from home on Monday, but we had friends over for a dinner on the deck that evening. I kept it casual with a graphic tee and denim shorts.

Good Vibes tee (S) // Joe’s frayed denim shorts (29) // Birk Siena (39) // Lagos earrings

And this tried and true outfit is from yesterday. I had three appointments, and I was running all over the tri-county area. I brought my laptop along (thus the gigantic tote) in case I had a chance to work in between. (Which I did not. Traffic is getting crazy around here lately! Everyone is going somewhere.) These pieces are old, but the pants are still available.

Michael Stars muscle tank (S) // Paige utility joggers (28) // similar espadrilles // Lagos earrings / VE Faro Cuff c/o // Goyard Saint Louis GM

Then we had a church dinner to attend last night, and I was worried I’d be hot in the pants outside, so I changed but I kept the olive and black theme going. I also decided to dunk my head in the sink and wash and blow dry my hair. It was looking pretty ratchet.

old LOFT linen tee // Spanx shorts (M) // Tory Burch Miller Sandals (8) // Kendra Scott earrings // Lagos bracelets

And that’s it for this installment of What I Wore Lately! I know it’s all pretty casual, life hasn’t been terribly eventful lately. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

  1. Thanks for sharing your outfits! Yes, they are pretty “simple and plain”, but they look calming to me! I usually dress in some prints (mostly florals), but enjoying my solids as well. The Hubs and I are going to the Philadelphia Flower Show today (perfect weather), and I’m purposely wearing a plain olive green tee and denim skirt. I don’t want to compete with the flowers at the Show!! Of course I’ll have a straw hat and tons of sunscreen!

  2. I love Grace Days! We all need a few more. I ordered the Maine shirt and adore it. We won’t be traveling to ME this summer so it makes me smile. I’ve noticed you’re wearing higher neck tops more often, Jo-Lynne. Is that a conscious decision? I had vowed not to buy anymore because I don’t like how I look with them between my broad shoulders and ample girls. But then I see photos of you and think you look great and start to rethink that.

    1. I don’t know, I haven’t really thought about it. I think it’s partially because that’s just what’s mostly out there right now. I still prefer an open neckline.

  3. Always enjoy your posts! I’ve been wearing a lot of army green bottoms lately too. I like to pair them with light pink tops/sweaters. Side note: as a central PA girl I grew up going to Knoebels! I hope your family had a fun day there!

    1. Well, I didn’t hate it… lol! That is saying something b/c I don’t care for amusement parks. But it is very charming and refreshingly low-key. Very pretty too with all the tall shade trees and old fashioned rides.

  4. I love seeing casual options and your process of vetoing outfits or trying them different ways. I also always enjoy seeing your shoe choices 🙂

  5. I LOVE your LV Graceful bag! Can you carry it over your shoulder comfortably? I only like carrying a bag on my shoulder and am wondering if the handle drop is long enough to wear it on your shoulder…. TIA!

  6. Hi Jo-Lynne! Love all your looks, especially the bootcut jeans! I’d love to hear what you think of your Goyard bag. I love the print and not a lot of people carry them here, which I like. How does it compare to your LV? Does it have any structure—will it stand on its own when it’s full?

    1. It is not structured like the LV, but I love it. This is the GM size. I got it primarily for travel b/c my Neverfull MM wasn’t big enough and I was ruining the shape, trying to fit too much in, but it’s too big for everyday use. I hate that I don’t use it more. I kind of want the MM size with the brown trim, but it would more or less replace my Neverfull and I feel guilty about that b/c I love it and it was my first luxury bag and a gift from Paul. I feel like it’s a waste to buy another luxury bag that would serve the exact same purpose, but if I were to do it over again, I’d go with the Goyard instead b/c it isn’t as common. Hope that helps!

      1. Thank you so much! That does help. I am not super-familiar with all the styles yet—I am looking at one called Artois (?) Maybe that’s the one that’s a bit smaller? I feel like the larger one might be too big for me too for daily use.
I think you could totally justify getting a second Goyard, because to me, your LV reads more spring/summer with the lighter print. The Goyard could be your fall/winter bag! Ha! I can rationalize just about anything when it comes to bags!! 😉 Thanks for the info. Will you get credit on fashionphile? Have you had good luck with that site?

        1. Oh, sorry, I was referring to the Neverfull – https://shopstyle.it/l/bH9fL 🙂

That was my first luxury bag, back in 2016 or 2017? I can’t remember when I got it, but Paul gave it for me for Christmas even though he was aghast that a canvas bag could cost that much, lol. The Goyard in the same size that I would recommend instead is this one: https://shopstyle.it/l/bH9hx

I have had a very good experience purchasing from Fashionphile. That’s where I got my Goyard b/c they only sell at a few stores in the U.S. and I don’t believe they can be purchased online from Goyard directly. They actually sent me the wrong size, and bent over backwards to fix the problem and send me another one, and gave me a store credit as well.

          1. Ah…I was thinking of the lighter tone LV. You can tell I’m not familiar with these two brands!! I have always carried Chloe bags, but they have not made anything recently that catches my eye and they don’t seem to hold their value, so I’m trying to broaden my horizons. I am watching videos online to learn more about the Goyard styles. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and experience with Fashionphile! That makes me feel better!

  7. I enjoy seeing what you really wore. To be honest, I think most of us dress pretty casual these days. I have had a light yellow top a few times in the past, and now you have me wanting another. Too bad yours is sold out. I also love your “evolution of an outfit”. It’s very helpful. Oh, and my Eileen Fisher dress came, and I had taken your advice and sized down, but I doubted it would work for me. Oh my goodness! I am in love! Now I want the raspberry one, but it’s sold out in my size😕.

  8. Really enjoyed this post. I like how REAL they are. It seems after the big Covid ordeal, people went more casual and are remaining more casual. I find lately, I end up feeling overdressed and I’m really not. I have been buying outfits to go somewhere in and then find myself toning down to simple denim and white shirt……Just like how you did for your date night out. I think you looked great in what you decided on. The other outfits were great too. I like to see your options. We haven’t had Summer shorts weather yet. 🙁 So, I haven’t had a chance to try out my Joe Fray denim shorts you recommended.

  9. Lots of great outfits here. Yes, they’re casual but cute! I think any of the outfits you tried on for date night look fantastic! Thanks for sharing!

  10. I love these posts, I always get good outfit ideas to use. I love the wash on the Good American jeans you’re wearing but on the website they look a little more faded than I like. Would you say the color is more accurate in your photos or the website?

  11. You can’t post too many casual outfits for me! That’s my jam 🙂 The bootcut jeans look AH-MAY-ZING on you! And the black Loft ruffle tank is so flattering–I love the way it looks on you but would never have ordered it on my own. I thought it would look too precious on me, but my build is somewhat similar to yours, so I might give it a try. Thanks for the great post!

  12. Love all your outfits! You say they are plain but that is what I like about them. All can be dressed up or down. Hope you are feeling more like your old self since your surgery? You look great! Take care

    1. I’m feeling better every day, but definitely not 100% yet. I saw my surgeon on Tuesday, and I was cleared to do pretty much anything I want, to my comfort level. So I’m going to start working out again, and wearing underwire bras. I need to try a few other styles. The one I got is okay but not the support I prefer.

  13. Thanks for the tip on the necklace, I’m ordering that one, love the minimalist look and I like something small especially in hot weather. Really want the Bony Levy one but it’s out of my reach! Love those bootcut jeans on you, I have an old pair of Calvin Kleins I have kept and now back in style almost.

  14. Seeing you in long sleeves tells me that you aren’t having the awful heat index and temps in the upper 90’s/low 100’s like we’re having. I like what you have been wearing. I’ve got to remember how nice black and olive green look together.

  15. All your outfits are real cute and thought out. I have to say, I can’t bring myself to wear anything that has taken a beautiful phenomenon from nature that biblically represents God’s covenant to his people (which includes ALL who accept AND follow him) , that has been now used to lure children into a social/sexual agenda by our society. There are no “good vibes” in what I consider to be child abuse by society. There is no pride in such agendas on children who should just be learning to ride bikes and learning to read, write, and do arithmetic. You’ve said you haven’t wanted this to be a political blog , so I question the timing of this particular t shirt showing up in your outfits. I’m sure I will be blocked, told I’m a hater, etc. I am not, but fine. None of us can judge any individual, but I do judge whether or not I think a political agenda is damaging to not.

    1. Um, wow. Okay, so… I think you might be reading a little too much into that t-shirt. I assure you, I am not out to make any type of political statement with my clothing.

      1. I’m not sure how a 60’s retro t-shirt qualifies as abusive. I’m sorry you received such a comment. I love reading your blog for the positivity, great fashion advice, and an opportunity to connect with like-minded women.
We definitely don’t need any more hatred and negativity in this world. I hope you can just delete this comment.
        Take care.
