What I Wore Lately Vol. 83

Happy Monday, friends! I usually post What I Wore Lately on Wednesdays, but my schedule got a little rearranged due to some sponsored post commitments, and I’m posting this today.

It was getting reeeeeeally long with all of my vacation outfits tacked on at the end, so I decided to save those out and do a separate post on what I packed and wore in Maine.

Even so, this post is still a bit of a doozie, so grab a 2nd cup of coffee and get ready to scroll!

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops, a 28 or 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

What I Wore Lately

I wore this to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I wanted something that was easy to change in and out of. This tee was actually an #NSale find a few years ago. It’s excellent quality, and I love the cheetah print.

I’m laughing because I was trying to snap this picture real quick before the plumber who was working in our bathroom caught me.

I did a big try-on haul in my bedroom with #NSale finds the next day, and this is what I threw on afterwards to work in my office editing pictures and writing up my blog post.

I worked that day from 5AM to 10PM, and that was after shopping the #NSale the day before and writing up the Fitting Room Selfies post until late that night. My cankles are proof of those crazy hours, haha!

Still got the cankles… I did more try-ons and ran some errands that Friday, including a much-needed mani/pedi. (I switched back to white nail polish.)

Caslon tee (S) // Mother Insiders (28) // Birks (39) // Kendra Scott earrings // Lagos bracelets one & two // nails: CND Studio White

I spent most of the following Saturday doing more bedroom try-ons, and then Paul and I had dinner reservations that night for my birthday.

I drank tons of water, and my ankles looked better that day. I also sat down and put my feet up for a few hours between trying on clothes and going out to dinner.

Is this ankle edema a middle-age issue, or probably lingering effects of my surgery two months ago? I’m really hoping it’s the latter because I don’t want to deal with this longterm.

I couldn’t decide which of the Vince dresses from the #NSale to wear to my birthday dinner at a little French restaurant that we love. The chef runs it out of his 300 year old farmhouse here in Chester County, PA.

It’s charming, and the food is divine, but it’s not a super dressy venue. I love this v-neck in the gorgeous murky blue/green/gray color, but I was afraid I’d feel overdressed.

The black tank dress is still dressy, but it doesn’t have the same level of formality as the grey one. I think you have to see them in person to really get the difference — it has to do with the fabric as well as the cut of the neckline and bodice.

At the last minute, I decided on this one. I just felt more comfortable in it, and Paul actually likes it better for some reason.

It’s still pretty dressy, though, and I had to fight the urge to dress it down with nude flat sandals.

They are certainly fine, but I think the gold heels really make this look a slam dunk.

Here’s the final outfit. I like how the ivory bag with gold hardware keeps it light and summery.

I wore my new Maeve flutter sleeve tee on Sunday with my white Mother Hustlers. The silver wedge sandals work really well with this color palette, but I realized after I got to church that I wore gold jewelry. Ooops! I meant to wear silver.

I like how the ankle-length flares balance out the flutter sleeves on the top. I think you can especially see that from the rear view.

Yes, I often take rear view pictures when trying to decide what to wear. After all, people see you from the back as much as they see you from the front!

After church, I treated myself to some much-needed R&R. I threw on a swimsuit and coverup and enjoyed our backyard pool for a few hours.

Becca coverup (S) // Blue Rod Beattie O-ring swimsuit (8) // Tory Burch Millers (8)

We had plans to go out for drinks and an early dinner with friends that night. This picture is from my try-on sesh on Saturday, and it’s the outfit I had been planning to wear, but it seemed like a bit much for a Sunday afternoon/evening outing. (I would have added more accessories — big earrings and one of my Victoria Emerson boho cuffs.)

Theory sweater (S) // AG Farrah Bootcut (28) // Michael Kors slingbacks (8)

As an aside, aren’t these jeans the perfect length with these slingbacks? I love how they sit right on top without buckling and show a peek of these gorgeous shoes. I also love the juxtaposition of the luxe sweater with the casual denim wash.

I will definitely wear that outfit at some point, but I thought white jeans might be better for this event, so I tried the black sweater with my white Mother Hustlers and a slightly more casual block heeled sandal.

Theory sweater (S) // Mother Hustler (29) // Dolce Vita sandals (7.5)

I still felt too dressed up, so I tried a few other options with the same jeans and sandals.

Mother Hustler (29) // Dolce Vita sandals (7.5)  // Frame silk tee (S) // Evereve sweater vest (S) // Evereve sweater tank (M)

But I really wanted to wear that Theory halter neck sweater, so I swapped out the Mother Hustler ankle flares for the straight leg Mother Dazzler.

I can’t really explain why, but I feel like the flare leg looks a bit “extra” while the straight leg style is more subdued. I also don’t care for ankle flares with flats, which is what I ended up wearing… but I’m getting ahead of myself.

Here are the different shoes I tried with this sweater/jeans combo.

Theory sweater (S) // Mother Dazzler (29) // Kendra Scott earrings // David Yurman bracelet // Tory Burch Millers (8) // Steve Madden slides (8) // old Stuart Weitzman wedges

I like the black Steve Madden slides with the wood grain heel best with this outfit, but I knew I’d be more comfortable in a flat and not feel so overdressed, so I ended wearing these old faithful Dolce Vita Haize Sandals.

I often end up wearing these sandals when I feel overdressed in heels but my flat sandals seem too casual. These have a 1.25″ heel, which along with the delicate double strap design is just enough to straddle that line between dressy and casual.

Theory sweater (S) // Mother Dazzler (29) // Dolce Vita sandals (8) // Kendra Scott earrings // David Yurman bracelet

So this is how it all came together. I like how the white jeans make it summery, the black halter neck sweater adds a touch of glam for a night out, and the nude strappy low-heeled sandals keep it casual enough for a Sunday afternoon event.

There are no outfit pictures from Monday; I think I stayed in workout clothes all day.

Then I had an eye doctor appointment on Tuesday. My hair is looking a bit rough here, but I love the olive green with the ecru jeans.

I had envisioned this sweater vest as more of a transitional wardrobe piece when we get to the end of August and into those warm September days, but I’ve already worn it a couple of times this month. I think I’m going to get a lot of use out of it.

I had a photo shoot on Wednesday, and I wore this casual outfit again for the rest of the day.

Lazy Lake Daze tank (M) // AG Becke raw hem denim shorts (29) // Born slides (8) // Kendra Scott earrings

The next day, I had a coffee date with a friend, and I pulled on the sweater tank again. This time, I paired it with white shorts.

Evereve sweater vest (S) // Fidelity Jimi (29; option) // Tory Burch Millers (8) // similar hoops // VE bracelet c/o // AllSaints bag

I ordered these Fidelity Jimi cutoffs and the AG Becke at the same time because most of my shorts are uncomfortable these days. I wanted some that are longer with a more relaxed fit. I was surprised when I loved them both. They’re a lot, I know, but I live in shorts in the summer, and I am so tired of being uncomfortable in them. I actually packed away a few of my other pairs.

We went out to dinner that night with another couple, and I considered wearing this black jumpsuit from Evereve.

Evereve Tank Jumpsuit (S) // Bella Vita sandals (8)

I decided it was a bit much for a weeknight… Do we sense a them here, lol??? Why is everything so dang casual these days?

I’d been wanting to wear this tank anyway, so I threw it on with white jeans and bookended the look with those strappy black Steve Madden sandals with the wood grain heel.

Halogen raw edge tank (S) // Mother Hustler (29) // Steve Madden slides (8)

I like that look, but I was curious how it would look with black jeans, so I grabbed the Paige Claudine. They have almost the exact same fit as the white Mother Hustler (above) and I love the off-black wash. That along with the raw hem gives these jeans a slightly lived-in look that keeps them from being too dressy.

I felt like these jeans toned down the look just enough to bring it into my comfort zone. This outfit isn’t quite as summery as it is with the white denim, but it has that slightly edgy vibe that I love.

I don’t have any pictures from last Friday, and this was the simple outfit I wore on Saturday.

ATM tee (M) // Mother Dazzler (29) // Birks (39) // pearl earrings // similar pendant

Paul and I went out for a casual dinner that night before coming back home to pack for Maine.

I finally got that cable sweater tank in the medium, and it fits much better than the small that I wore in this post. First, I tried it on with white jeans and block heeled sandals.

Evereve sweater tank (M) // Mother Dazzler (29) // Dolce Vita sandals c/o (7.5)

I like that look, but I decided to take it down a notch with blue jeans and flat sandals, and I added fun earrings and a bracelet.

There’s something I find really pleasing about this color combo — the oatmeal color with the medium blue denim. Next time, I want to try this sweater with the AG Farrah Bootcut. I think that will be a really fun look.

Evereve sweater tank (M) // Mother Dazzler (29) // Dolce Vita sandals (8) // Panacea earrings // VE bracelet c/o

That brings us to last Sunday and our travel day to Maine. We flew, so I wanted to look somewhat put together. This denim jacket is more coral than pink, but it’s not as warm as it appears on the website. It’s a really pretty color for summer.

KUT from the Kloth Kara (M) // ATM tee (M) // Mother Insider (28) // Dolce Vita sandals (8) // Lagos earrings // similar pendant // David Yurman bracelet // Goyard tote

And that’s where I’m going to stop for today! Stay tuned for what I packed and wore in Maine… I plan to put that post up on Wednesday.

  1. So many good outfits! I wish I’d jumped on the Lazy Lake Daze tank when I first saw it. I did just order the xs, but since it runs small, I’m not sure if it will work. I also ordered another color in small (which ironically says it runs big) so we’ll see. I also finally ordered a pair of the Mother Insiders. As much as I love the Dancing on Coals wash, I ordered the Walking on Coals, lol. I’m pretty sure I can get away with the raw hem at school, but not the rest of the distressing. The only thing I’m concerned about is the Walking on Coals has a 27″ inseam as opposed to the 26″ on the Dancing. But it’s possible that with the straighter raw hem, (not chewed), Nordstrom tailoring will be able to shorten it successfully. We’ll see, I guess!

  2. This post has given me a few ideas of how I can start wearing my brownish sleeveless sweater vest from the #NSALE now, so Thank You! I really like the Maeve top and you look great wearing it. The dress you wore for your birthday dinner with Paul is so pretty and versatile. How’s your tooth? I’d love to know the changes y’all are having done in your master bathroom. Have a great day!

    1. My tooth is weird – sometimes it hurts and sometimes it doesn’t. I have no idea why, and when it will flare up. I still haven’t had the crown put on the one with the latest root canal so I guess I need to follow up on all that. Hot and cold doesn’t bother it much anymore, but it hurts to chew sometimes, especially on hard things.

We did a full gut on the bathroom. It has been a long process! I’ll share when it’s all done.

  3. The Kara jacket outfit is one of my faves. The theory sweater with dark jeans is one hot date night outfit. There are about 5 outfits that I love on this post. Thank you for all our outfit inspirations.

    1. No, it’s not gel, so you don’t have the issue with removal that is what makes gel tough on your nails. The Vinylux is a long-wearing, quick-drying polish, but you remove it like regular nail colors.

  4. Great post! Question – do the Kat from the Kloth Reese Ecru jeans fit like other KftK? Do you usually size down? Or your regular size?

    Thanks!

  5. Loved all your outfits! I agree about shorts
being too tight is not a good thing! I like a little more of a slouchy look for shorts! I hope you can style that jumpsuit soon, love that. I also hope you will share your bathroom redo with us at some point.
I am sitting in a car for the next 10 hours (ugh) traveling from Myrtle Beach back home to Jersey! Chilling in my WHBM chino shorts and new MB tshirt!!

  6. Some really cute outfits here! My fav is the bootcut jeans with the black tank! Love that look!

  7. I love how you share your thought processes when deciding what to wear. The comparison pictures with three different shoe choices is really helpful!

  8. I like all the outfits on you except the distressed jeans. I just don’t like them on anyone. I love the grey blue dress. ( I’m probably overdressed all the time compared to how people dress around here.
It doesn’t bother me one bit. I want to be an example.).

As far as swollen ankles, it must be from your surgery. I’m 68 and never have had that problem. Something is going on. Why don’t you try a massage. Maybe that will help to get that fluid out of you.

  9. Great outfits. You’ve done so well with your Jean choices. I just have a hard time spending so much on jeans but then I end up with non. Even Nordy sale quality denim prices are steep. Right now I’m enjoying my Hudson denim shorts and my Caslon ones. Very comfortable and our temps are going to be in the 90’s this week. Looking forward to Wed. post. I hear you on everything so casual. I am constantly trying to under dress myself even when I don’t want to. Even to church.

  10. PS. The swollen ankles may be a dehydration issue from heat. It’s so funny you mentioned it this AM as yesterday it was really hot here and I hadn’t drank enough water and my ankles were swollen and puffy…..never had before, not even while pregnant. My husband said I’m getting old. Lol. I’m 60.

  11. *I’m getting a migraine, so I hope I make sense here 😬* I’m thinking your cankles are probably the result of high temperatures, being on your feet so much, and lingering effects of your surgery. I would try a lymphatic massage, followed by drinking a ton of water. I super love that blue and white top on you! I wore my new navy Born slides yesterday and I love them. I also really love that black halter sweater on you. Both tops look amazing! I wasn’t a fan of the Evereve sweater tank at first, but I’m really liking it now. 🤗

      1. Hmmm. Maybe try a regular massage and drink a lot of water? I’ve seen many massage therapists over the years and they all could/would do lymphatic massage. I’m sorry you’re having trouble finding someone. 🙁

        1. Good to know, maybe I don’t need to look for someone that advertises that, then? I don’t have a regular person I go to, but I can ask at my nail salon next time I go. The swelling has gone down, thankfully!

  12. Thanks for another enjoyable post, Jo-Lynne. You always put so much work into your posts! You mentioned your swollen ankles and it reminded me that I’d recently heard a friend talk about how effective a lymphatic drainage treatment was for her swollen legs. She’s in her forties and I think she said she noticed the trouble after having had abdominal surgery.

  13. I get you on everything being so casual. Although I respect that, I don’t let it entirely dictate what I wear. I figure if I level up a little maybe other women will be inspired to do so and the trend will spread. Anyway, I think a lot of people appreciate dressing up but don’t want to be the only ones doing it so I try to be an example.

  14. Love your outfits today! Can you share where you purchased the tan/beige linen look jacket you were wearing in your ad for your Saturday post? It looks perfect as a transition jacket. Thanks!
