What I Wore This Week 04.21.18

Greetings, friends! Happy weekend! Today I’m sharing what I wore over the past week. Half of the outfits are from my Florida trip last weekend, and the rest are from this week when it has been cold enough for winter sweaters and boots, so it’s quite a mix of styles!

Unfortunately the ones from Florida are pretty rough. Most were mirror selfies in our hotel room, which wasn’t well lit.

My roommate tried to get pictures of a couple of my outfits outside, but it was incredibly windy from the impending storm, and the lighting inside the hotel was pretty bad for pictures — yellow and shadowy. I tried to do some editing, but that probably just made them even more grainy.

Anyway, it is what it is! I will have some gorgeous pictures to show you when Martina sends the ones from our photo shoot! I hope to have them by the end of the week.

What I Wore This Week 04.21.18

First up, my pool outfit. I wore this 3 days out of 4. My coverup is from Amazon, and the price is different depending on the size you order, which is weird, but Amazon does that. I have the small, and it was $54 when I bought it. It’s very flattering and pretty, easy to throw on and go. Nordstrom has a bunch of La Blanca coverups if mine is sold out in your size.

I also love, love, love my rafia pool bag. There were some comments that it’s pricey for a pool bag, and I guess it is, but I bought it particularly because it’s packable. If that’s an issue for you, I think it’s worthy of your consideration. It folds up or lays out flat so you can manipulate it depending on how your suitcase is packed. Plus it’s just pretty. It has a metallic thread throughout that gives it a touch of glam. I got several compliments on it at the resort.

I wore this next outfit one night to dinner. This is the best we could do to get a picture in the dimly lit hallway. We were hoping to get a group shot at dinner, but it was so windy outside, we didn’t even try.

This was after my day of shooting photos with Martina. I’d had 5 outfit changes in various bathrooms along the way — some were air conditioned and some were not — and all sorts of windy weather, so my hair was pretty rough by this point, but I didn’t want to redo it so I went to dinner like this.

top // jeans (budget option) // sandals // necklace

Next up, my beach outfit. No, there is no reason why I wore the coverup to the pool and the t-shirt and shorts to the beach. It just worked out that way. As cute as the coverup is, and as much as I liked it for my resort vacation, this is what I usually wear to our pool club. A coverup feels fussy, and this casual look is just more me. Plus I can run into the grocery store afterwards or anything like that if I need to, which I wouldn’t do in the coverup.

tee (old) // tote bag // bathing suit // sandals // hat // sunnies

I wore this denim skirt outfit out to dinner on our last night. It was raining, so I ended up swapping out the shoes for my trusty patent leather Miller sandals, as you can see below in my picture with my friends. I wasn’t sure how the beaded sandals would hold up to a downpour.

I picked up the skirt at Saks Off Fifth when I saw it on sale. It is super soft, stretchy, and so comfy. It doesn’t bag out at all either. Love me some AG denim! The raw hem is  kind of youthful, I don’t know. Maybe it’s too young for me, but I like it.

The cardigan is from Social Threads, and it’s lightweight with a nice loose weave — perfect for summertime!

sweater // tee // skirt // sandals // necklace // bracelet

Here’s our group! They will probably kill me for posting this, but it’s already on Instagram so… We had so much fun. Love these girls.

I wore the same outfit for our trip home as I did on our way down, so you’ve seen this before. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

cardigan // tee // jeans (budget option) // similar shoes // 28″ suitcase (24″ option) // tote (optionbudget option)

And this is back to life… back to reality… we returned to 40-degree temperatures so I’m back in my cozy comfort clothes. Get all the details HERE.

And finally, I wore this yesterday to the meet & greet with the stars from the PopTV show, Hollywood Darlings — Jodie Sweetin from Full House, Beverley Mitchell from 7th Heaven, and Christine Lakin from Step By Step. That was so fun. I’ll share more about it tomorrow in my Coffee Talk.

You’ve seen this outfit before, but this time I changed up my earrings and necklace (I like these SO much better) and carried a smaller bag. Get all the details HERE.

And that’s a wrap!

What are you up to this weekend? I’m trying to decide what to do with myself today. Later on we’re going down to visit my in-laws (they live about an hour away) but I have a good chunk of the morning to fill.

I cleared out my office and packaged up a ton of returns yesterday so that is out of the way, which is nice! That’s often how I spend my Saturdays.

I was planning to shoot a spring outfit or two with Paul, but it is 31 degrees right now. I’m sorry, but I’m over it. I refuse to shoot another spring outfit in 30-degree weather. I’m also done running in 30-degree weather. So there.

Yes, I realize the lack of exercise only further contributes to my crankiness, but I just can’t deal with this weather anymore.

I have some stuff I’d like to list on @shopjolynnescloset but that’s a big undertaking. I’m not sure I’m up for it today. (There are still a few things left for sale that haven’t been snapped up yet, if you’re interested!)

Maybe I’ll just pour a 3rd cup of coffee and sit and read my book until it’s time to leave. I started it when I was in Florida and I haven’t picked it up since I got home.

Any-who. That’s about it for me! I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  1. I love these roundups! What a great way to start my day– a cup of tea and your post. Although I have a couple of nice dress-type coverups, I also tend to wear jean shorts and a tee over a bathing suit. Do you wear your everyday shorts or do you have a pair that you wear exclusively over your bathing suit? I always worry about sunscreen staining my clothes. I can’t tell you how many light-colored shirts I’ve ruined over the years. And I like a looser pair of shorts on over my swimsuit. I love the denim skirt on you, Jo-Lynne. I think we should wear what we like! At 56, I’m the only one of my friends who wears distressed denim and I’ve decided that’s just fine because my distressed jeans make me happy.

    1. I usually wear an older pair of shorts, but sometimes I wear my regular ones. The ones I had on in this picture are the same ones I wear a lot for regular use. I don’t have any issues with sunscreen staining my clothes.

And I agree about wearing what we like. Ironically, all of my friends wear distressed jeans. It’s not unusual to see around here.

    2. I hear ya… I just turned 50 and I have no plans to part with my distressed or slightly ripped jeans. Supper comfy and that`s what its all about.

  2. So sorry you are still dealing with cold weather there but at least it’s consistent. In Tx we go from 80 degrees back to high of 40 then back up then back down.  So hard to know what to wear from day to day but we have had a few pretty spring days so I won’t complain. I just know if I was in your area I would be depressed by now. So, I say read your book today and enjoy time with your family!

    1. Actually it was 80 here last weekend, but I missed it because I was in Florida… which isn’t a bad option, but I was bummed to miss a few nice days here. It does look like it will be slowly climbing into the 50s and 60s over the next week so I’m trying to stay positive. Seriously, though, it is draining. At least the sun is shining and the pear trees are blooming. It’s pretty, but man is it cold.

  3. I love these posts! The cover up is super cute, only XS left. I like the skirt. It looks good on you. Enjoy your leisurely Saturday morning. I’m about to make a Key lime pie. We are having some friends over for a shrimp boil this evening!

  4. Thanks for being real! 😊 I’m so over the cold here in DE, and the wind! Brr!
    Enjoy your book…😉👍

  5. Temps in the 30’s should be illegal in April. Today I wore 3 layers out, but at least they were slightly lighter than my winter coat #progress

Enjoy the visit with your inlaws!

  6. Jolynne you should move down south! Our weather has been in the 60s lately (which is actually cool for this time of year here but after reading your post I’m grateful for it!).  At least it’s cool but sunny!
I totally agree with everyone else about wearing what make you feel good!  As long as it flatters your body type that is!  I absolutely love that skirt! It’s just the right length,  not so short that it’s too young or revealing,  and not so long that it looks matronly or amish!  And I love the raw hem on it!  Wish it would go on sale!
Enjoyed your round up!  Have a great weekend!

    1. I’d love to move south… but my husband is Philly born and bred, and he’s not going anywhere. 🙂

Thanks for the input on the skirt. It’s a nice change from jeans and shorts.

  7. Good Morning Jo-Lynn
First of all I have to say that since I started following your blog through Cyndi Spivey, I have noticed how much work and time you must spend on your blog. You provide such detail, and it`s much appreciated. Also I like how you just are who you are, not always having to be over the top. Thank You! Well now that that is out of the way, thanks for all your reflections of the week which some I had missed. I have found on the Joe Fresh.com website a tote very similar to yours comes in black and neutral and has the metallic threading for only $29 just in case some readers find the other one a little pricey but like the style( hope I`m not over stepping LOL you`re the professional). So glad you had a great meet and greet, I love all those shows myself and remember the older ones. Hope you have a great weekend. We are struggling with lousy weather here where I am in Canada, but should reach the 50-60 mark next week. Let`s hope anyway, I`m getting sick of my winter coat.
    Enjoy your weekend
    Karen

  8. I’m looking for some cute wide leg cullotte type pants that I’m starting to see everywhere now. Have you shopped for any or have any recommendations for brands? I’ve been browsing the Nordstrom website and went into Zara and Ann Taylor at the mall and the had a few that might work, but unsure how to style them for my lifestyle. I like the tie waist ones. Thoughts?
The weather at this time of year in So Cal is what makes us feel a little spoiled, I have to admit. It’s been just perfect: mid 70s warm, breezy, sunny, “eat-dinner-outside-with-a -light -sweater-on” kind of weather. I had a teacher training last week at a school that overlooks the Pacific Ocean and I realized what a blessing it is to live here. (Despite our crazy state politicians – ugh!)

    1. Hey Heather, I haven’t looked at the cullottes b/c I know they won’t look good on me. But they’re cute on those who can wear them. Basically you need to tuck your shirt in or wear one that is fitted.

The So Cal weather sounds amazing but I remember in the fall – and even winter too? – how I was in fun layers and sweaters and you were saying you were still in shorts. I try to remember that when I complain about spring in our area. I hate spring here but I love fall and winter. 🙂 Perspective!

I would love to live 9 mos a year here and 3 mos a year in the south or Scottsdale or San Diego. #bigdreams

      1. Okay, thanks for your response. I haven’t tried on any of the wide leg pants yet, but they look so cute on the people I see wearing them (spotted them on several women yesterday in Newport). I think YOU could absolutely pull off the floaty linen wide leg pant style with a wedge slide! 😊

And yes, I agree about the weather…..there’s positives & negatives anywhere you live. We never really have fall or winter here which would be fun to have for sure ……by October I’m usually praying for a cold day to wear a sweater. 😩

  9. What a fun outing.  I just heard about those 3 doing a show together.  I saw them on Home and Family on the Hallmark channel. I just finished the book, Staying Stylish by Candance Cameron Bure. It was good.  You could read it in one sitting. I did in 2.  🙂  I think you’d like it.  I have always appreciated her faith shining in all she does. Anyway, have a good Saturday no matter what you do, even if its just reading a book, until you leave.  Today is the transition day to our 70-80’s to come this next week.  Yeah!!!  Unusual for us, but I’m soooo ready like you are.  I don’t know how you do the 30’s this time of year.  At least we’ve been in the 50’s but its so gloomy and rainy.

    1. Our weather is slowly improving over the next week or so… I’m hopeful! 🙂 Every time we have a nasty spring, I remind myself how awesome our fall is here. Haha! It’s a trade-off.

    1. Sure, I sized up in the skirt. I have a 30 and I wear a 28 in their jeans usually. I ordered a 29 and 30 — I don’t know why, but I suspected the skirt might run small.

  10. All of these outfits are darling and so wearable! I am going to have to spring for Converse tennis. They look so good on you! I don’t blame you for avoiding the weather. We have the opposite here. Our “winter” is 110 degrees and wildfires. See you next week!
