Coffee Talk 02.13.22

Vince sweater (on sale!) // Good American jeans // old John Hardy hoops // Yurman necklace & bracelet

Well, that preview of spring weather was short lived. I woke up this morning to a blanket of snow on the ground. Quite a change from the balmy 60° afternoons we had the past few days. Oh, well. I knew it couldn’t last, and I do love snow! Plus, it won’t be long until I’m in sunny Florida.

I’ve been working ahead on blog posts for this week because I know I’ll need time to plan the outfits I want to shoot in Florida, plus all of the things we women like to do before going to a warm weather destination in the middle of winter.

I scheduled a mani/pedi and a spray tan, and I already had an appointment for a glycolic peel on the books, so I should be glowing by the time I get to the Sunshine State! All such superficial things, but I’ll be glad I made the effort when it’s time to don sandals and sleeveless tops and take pictures.

Snow or no snow, this week on the blog is going to be all about spring trends! I’m super excited; I always enjoy putting these posts together. I’ve been doing a lot of research, and it’s definitely going to be an interesting year for fashion. Everyone is ready to come out of hibernation and start living again, and that’s very evident in the trends this season.

We’ve had a full weekend. The kids were all busy yesterday so Paul and I took advantage of having the day to ourselves. We both worked a few hours in the morning and then went on a long walk to enjoy the gorgeous weather we were having. I needed to run into the mall for a few things, so he tagged along, and then we went out to dinner and called it Valentine’s Day.

I wore my new Halogen raw edge tank in the pretty Pink-Black Ink Strokes with my Vince pants and this suede moto jacket, which is apparently sold out in the black.

Outfit Details

And just like the last time we had dinner plans, I wore my Paige Lia booties to tromp around the mall and changed into pumps before we got to the restaurant. I definitely felt a tad overdressed at the mall, but I got a lot of compliments!

I’m not sure if we’ll be able to get to church today or not. The snow is still falling, but it doesn’t seem to be accumulating very quickly, and the ground is so warm from the past few days so the roads probably aren’t too bad. It might just be slush.

And I suppose the Super Bowl is this afternoon! I almost forgot. We don’t have a team in the game, so it hasn’t been a topic of conversation around here, but I’m sure my men will be watching. I don’t even know who is performing at halftime. I lost interest in the halftime show years ago, and the commercials aren’t even funny anymore.

I guess I’ll use the opportunity to make Buffalo Chicken Dip and read my book. There’s something I find quite comforting about reading on a Sunday afternoon with the background noise of a football game on the TV.

I ordered Warsaw Orphan after finishing up The Things We Cannot Say. I also told my daughter I’d reread To Kill A Mockingbird since she’s reading it for school, and that just came in. I’m not usually one to read two books at once, but I already started Warsaw Orphan and I’m into it, so I’ll see if I can manage two.

So yeah, that’s about all I’ve got for today. I’m off to brew a second cup of coffee and see what the roads are like. I hope have a restful and relaxing Super Bowl Sunday, and may the best team win!

  1. Enjoy To Kill A Mockingbird. I always read books that my kids were reading in school. My book club read it a couple of years ago (we’d all read it before but thought it was worth a reread) and then we read Go Set A Watchman which Harper Lee wrote first but takes place when Scout is an adult– which I might have liked better. Have a cozy afternoon, JoLynne. We’re skipping the super bowl. We used to go to a small party, but that’s not happening this year and we don’t have cable! I imagine we could stream it somehow if we wanted to, but neither of us is into football.

  2. Love a spa day, what type of facial peel do you get or is there a difference? Enjoy your quiet Sunday, thanks for all you do, I look forward to reading your posts everyday!

  3. Hi! I named my daughter, Scout, after the Scout in “To kill a Mockingbird.” She is a senior in high school headed off to college in the fall. I hope you enjoy reading it again.

  4. Yah, how about that snow?? We were in Lancaster County for the past 3 days and saw that snow was predicted! What?? However when I got up this morning, we too, had a decent snow covering and it’s still coming down. Come in Spring!! Can’t wait to see what you’ve got for us when you get to the Sunshine State!
Re Books – I just finished a non-fiction book, The Churchill Sisters, excellent. Not riveting but wow, what a life they had, so many ups and downs. Highly recommend, only it did take me a while to read it. I just started Vanderbilt, co-authored by Anderson Cooper, another non-fiction. Only one chapter in and I can tell I’ll read this one pretty quickly. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and thank you for all your great tips on so many things!!

  5. Hi Jolene,
Hope you have a wonderful trip to Florida. We are here for just the winter months and it’s been a cooler than usual January & February. Looking forward to your blog about spring fashion as I head north in April.
    Take care,
    Marcia

  6. I am looking forward to seeing what you have to share with us about spring fashion. I saw on the news last night that Philly could have snow overnight. We actually had a couple of days in the low 70’s and they will be back later in the week, along with the potential for rough weather. I bet you are excited about going to FL. Have a blessed day!

  7. I commend you for the time you make for yourself. I don’t think it’s superficial to get a manicure and pedicure or a wonderful face peel – those things make you feel good and you deserve it, we all do. Oh, and a good spray tan can be a quick mood lifter. Cheers to your Sunday ☕️

  8. Wow!!! Snow. I know many are getting it but we’ve been have Sunny, warm days here in Oregon. It’s been so nice. But, rain back tomorrow. 🙁 Yesterday, we also went for a long walk after we had a nice lunch out by a waterfront area we like to go to. Today church and Super Bowl will probably be on, but I have the same feel about it as you mentioned. Just not really into it this year. Don’t really know the teams. Enjoy your reading. I just started a new book also. I read To Kill A Mocking Bird Years ago in HS too. Probably would be good to read again. I’d probably get more out of it. You look great in your date night look. Have a good day.

  9. I made your recipe for Buffalo Chicken dip for 2 different events this weekend, it was a hit! Thanks for sharing it.

  10. I’m looking forward to your spring preview posts as well! I feel like maeuvering the change in jeans in the fall was a huge accomplishment, LOL. I ended up with three “updated” pairs – 2x Madewell and 1x WHBM but getting there was slightly traumatic. Maybe spring will be a little easier. I know your research will be solid and helpful – and fun to read. Thank you in advance!

  11. I’m going to order Warsaw Orphan; I love that author. I used to be in a book club, but we dissolved during Covid lockdown but I still read a book (or two) a month and my close friends and I pass them around.
We have had incredible weather the past couple weeks which is great for the Super Bowl here in So Cal (go Rams!) We’re all pretty excited to watch the game today – having a few friends over for it. I’m making 7-layer dip, fresh guacamole, and spinach/artichoke dip.
I ordered a pair of the Frame straight- leg jeans from Nordstrom and they arrived yesterday…..omg they’re perfection. Such a good fitting pair of denim. Now I want to order the same style in the white jean. I know you’ve tried Frame before right? I can’t believe I’d never tried them until now! Enjoy your relaxing Sunday! And since you don’t have a team in the game, cheer for the Rams! 😃

  12. Hey- I don’t know if it’s just a glitch, but the last few times I’ve left a comment here, it goes to “awaiting moderation.” Any idea what I’m doing wrong? I’m using the same name and email so it should recognize me. No worries- just wondered if I’m doing anything on my end to flag the system.

  13. When you re-read To Kill A Mockingbird you will be so happy you did. I re-read it on its 50th anniversary and again since An amazing piece of literature and should be on everyone’s to read list
It touches my heart every time.

  14. I have The Warsaw Orphan on my list. I just listened to Go Set A Watchman narrated by Reese Witherspoon it was good. It has been a while since I read To Kill a Mockingbird. I am generally reading 2-4 books at one time, all different eras since I primarily read historical fiction. Enjoy the snow. It was cool here but we don’t get much snow here in central Mississippi. One of the main things I miss not living up north anymore.
