Coffee Talk 10.09.22

outfit details

Good morning! I slept in today so this will be a brief one because I want to make sure I make time to get outside for a walk before church.

Yeah, my first-thing-in-the-morning walking experiment was short-lived. It’s ideal for summertime, when it’s light out and warm when I wake up, but lately I’ve been waking up in the dark, and it was only 38 degrees this morning! Let’s just say I’d rather have my coffee first and go outside after it warms up a bit.

But that means I have to be really disciplined about getting off the computer… which is always the challenge for me. I have a way of falling down the rabbit hole and ending up with about 25 tabs open with all sorts of extraneous tasks going on at once. By the time I get back to the primary goal (i.e. writing this post) it’s time to get on with my day.

And…..that is pretty much what just happened! So let me get on with it.

It has been an absolutely glorious weather weekend here in Philly, despite the cooler than average temperatures. Yesterday morning, Paul and I took Savannah (our little Shichon, for anyone not familiar–that’s a cross between tae Shih Tzu and a Bichon Frise) over to a nearby preserve with walking/hiking trails.

She is terrified of the car because that usually means she is going to the vet or the groomer, so she was shaking like a leaf, poor thing. But once we got to our destination, she was happy as a clam in sand. She’s something like 12 or 13 years old (we aren’t sure because she was a rescue) but she kept up with us for at least a mile, probably closer to two. We need to do that more often–for us, and for her!

Then after running some errands in the afternoon, I came back home and assembled a lasagna for lunch today. It was Becca’s birthday request, so of course I obliged, but that’s a labor of love, let me tell you! We love Ina’s Lasagna with Goat Cheese recipe; it’s been my go-to for years. If you haven’t tried it, you should! It sounds weird, but even people who claim to be picky eaters love it when I make it for them.

Before I hop off, I just want to mention that deal on Apple AirPods–they’re still $89 at Amazon, and I haven’t seen them that low anywhere else. Evidently a LOT of you purchased them from My Favorite Things, so I wanted to mention them again in case you missed it because they make great gifts. I even ordered a backup pair, since every once in a while, someone in my house loses theirs (or drops one in the sink… ahem, that was me!)

Okay, that’s all I’ve got time for today. I hope you have a restful and blessed Sunday!

  1. Seeing an email notification from you this morning made me smile! It sounds like have had a good week, and that you, Paul, and Savannah enjoyed the outside time yesterday. I know that your furry family member is getting up there in years, but maybe you can start taking her on short rides, to help her be more calm in the vehicle. It was 39 when I woke up this morning. Yay! Our highs are in the 70’s and 80’s now, but no humidity, thank goodness. Highs in the 70’s are more tolerable. Larry ordered a pair of the Apple iPods for my Christmas. Have a blessed day!

  2. Have a great week ahead and laughing over your morning stories, as that’s the norm more than not with the computer and I wonder sometimes why I didn’t get more done during the day. Savannah would learn to love going for rides if its someplace fun (we’re dog less at this point in time and miss spoiling the pups). Thanks again for all of the lovely post and hard work you’ve been putting into your post.

  3. The place you 3 went walking looks peaceful. My husband and I search out those type places often for our walks. I know what you mean about the AM walks. I too am hit and miss and like to wait, this time of year for when its light and warmer, but if I don’t get it done early enough, I talk myself right out of it. I get all cozy inside and can easily decide on more coffee or tea. LOL I don’t know why something that makes me feel so good doing, is so hard to stay consistent. Don’t beat yourself up. Just walk when you can. You do the workouts too, so good for you. Enjoy your Sunday and hope you got my list of book recommendations with the new author I found. I think of how you like to read on Sunday afternoons. Let me know if you didn’t read the post back with those and I can send again.

  4. PS Happy Birthday to Becca!!!!! I just can’t believe how much your kids have grown since I started following you in 2015.

  5. Thanks for reminding me of Ina’s Garden recipes, her meatloaf one is really a good one. I’m going to try this lasagna one soon, sounds delish. For anyone interested I found a good ready made italian sauce at Walmart called Rao’s which I used with chicken parmasean which is my son’s favorite. Love Savannah, could eat her up! Miss having a pup but do have a calico cat named Chelsea Kay who is rotten! Happy Birthday Becca!

  6. Ive been wanting to bring lasagna back into my fall menus. Love Ina, so will try her version. Thanks for the recipe! We have a 13 year old schichon, too. Aren’t they the sweetest? Mine can’t make a mile hike. She has to stop for rests now. Happy Birthday to your Becca!

  7. I ordered 2 pr of the apple AirPods! Thank you so much! Keep those recommendations coming! And your daily posts are the best of the best!

  8. I have the same problem in the morning!! I love my coffee and computer time but it’s hard to make myself stop and move on to my devotional and some exercise. I might need to get up earlier!
