Early Fall Try-On Haul

Hi, friends! I have a good, old-fashioned Try-On Haul for you today. Sorry I went MIA, and thanks to all who checked in on me. Everyone is okay. I just have a lot of balls I’m juggling, and I couldn’t get this post finished. Since it’s going up so late, I’ll just leave it on top of the blog through tomorrow, and I’ll put my next new post up on Thursday.

I’ve got a bunch of great early fall styles to show you, so let’s get started!

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and around 137 pounds, with an hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

Evereve Fall Try-Ons

I got my August Evereve order in the mail, and I found a couple great pairs of jeans, and my new favorite jacket. Let’s start with the jeans.

Edwin Elin Straight Crop

jeans // tee // sandals

[flex_row] [/flex_row]

These jeans are a new brand to me, and I like them. They’re very stretchy and comfortable, and this is a highly versatile mid-indigo wash. They’re 98% cotton, 2% polyurethane and made in the USA. The 10″ rise is higher than some, but not super high, and the 26″ inseam is the perfect crop length on an average woman.

I tried them first with a simple tee and sandals, to see how they work with one of my typical summer outfits, and they work. I’d say these are a great option for ladies wanting the straight crop style without a lot of rips and tears.

French Connection Abel Sleeveless Tank

sweater // jeans // mules

[flex_row]  [/flex_row]

I love a sleeveless turtleneck for transition season, and this is a good one! It’s so soft and comfortable, and I appreciate how it is cut around the arms. They aren’t too low, or cut too far in, and it doesn’t gape at all. I’ll layer a leather jacket on top when the weather cools down, but for now I’ll wear it just like this. It’s true to size; I have the small.

Dolce Vita Serla Braided Mule

sweater // jeans // mules

Unfortunately, I didn’t capture a close-up of the mules, but I’m loving these. They make the perfect transition shoes for fall. They’re very comfortable to wear, and they run true to size, or size down if you normally do in mules and slides. I have the 7 1/2.

Marrakech Morrison Jacket

jacket // cami // jeans // mules

[flex_row][/flex_row]

I’m totally in love with this bomber jacket. I love the twill trim pockets and a rib-knit waistband, and the collar is a nice touch — a little more refined than a typical bomber jacket style neckline. It’s super soft and comfortable, but unfortunately, seems to be already selling out. I hope they restock! It’s true to size; I have the small.

Allison Joy Annie Chiffon Trim Cami

cami // jeans // mules

This is the perfect layering cami for under all types of jackets, or you can wear it alone. I probably won’t because I’m too old and crotchety to deal with a strapless bra, but I do like the look. The under layer is a soft t-shirt material, so it’s very comfortable and not at all see-through. The straps are adjustable, and it runs true to size if you are a small to average bra size. It’s too tight across my chest, so I need to see about getting the medium.

525 Relaxed Pocket Cardigan

sweater // cami // jeans // mules

[flex_row]  [/flex_row]

The shorter v-neck button-up cardigans are trending this fall, and this one is a nice quality. I love the color too. It’s pretty boxy, and runs a little big, I’d say. I prefer the look buttoned-up, and I’m not sure why I didn’t get a picture of me wearing it that way. I’m planning to bring it to my photo shoot this morning, though, so I’ll get some good pictures of it buttoned-up. It’s true to size, or you could probably size down if in between.

Good American Good Legs Cig

at Evereve // at Bloomies // on sale at Good American // sweater // cami // mules

And these jeans are a new favorite! They’re a cigarette style, so that means slim and straight, more of a skinny jean that is cut straight from calf to ankle. They have a 10 1/2″ rise, 27 1/2″ inseam, and 12 1/2″ leg opening. They’re Good American, so they really suck you in, and I love this off-black wash for fall. They run true to size, or size up if in between.

I also tried them with my the Paige Lia booties, to see how they work with boots. They easily skim over the top.

[flex_row] [/flex_row]

And here they are with the Blondo lug sole boots. I love this combo! I think it will work really well with lots of different tops this fall.

[flex_row] [/flex_row]

Okay, that’s it for Evereve. I also ordered a few things from Shopbop and Nordstrom recently.

Shopbop + Nordstrom Try-Ons

Shopbop has really fast, free shipping and free returns, but only for 15 days. I always warn people to be careful and make sure they send their returns back right away.

Z Supply WFH Polo Sweater Heather Latte

sweater // jeans

I wanted to love this top because the polo sweaters are trending, and I think it’s such a nice change from the typical crew neck or v-neck. But this one is so short. (It’s 21 1/4″ long.) I know shorter tops are also trending, but this one looks like I just cut it off or something.

It’s very soft and comfy, though, and I appreciate the generous sleeve length. The fabric is 85% polyester/15% nylon, so good for those who can’t wear wool.

MOTHER The Hustler Ankle Fray

sweater // jeans // mules

[flex_row] [/flex_row]

I was curious about the Mother Hustler, and I was drawn to this wash, so I ordered these on Shopbop. The Hustler is similar to the Mother Insider, but just a tad longer and wider, with a slightly higher rise. According to the Mother website, the Hustler has an 11″ rise, 27 1/2″ inseam, and 16″ leg opening. The Insiders that I’ve been wearing so much this summer have a 10″ rise, 26″ inseam, and 15″ leg opening.

I don’t love them with the mules above, but they look great with boots. Take a look. These are the Marc Fisher Hayden booties from DSW.

This ankle length bootcut jean looks more modern to me than the full length styles we were wearing in the early aughts. I know some of you will say they look like high waters, but I kind of like them.

[flex_row] [/flex_row]

And they look just as good with the dressier Paige Lia booties.

[flex_row][/flex_row]

I’m super excited to style these more ways this fall! They are true to size; I’m wearing my usual 28.

Treasure & Bond Twist Detail T-Shirt {Tan Cumin}

tee // jeans // sandals

Okay, back to some more transitional pieces. This is the twist detail tee I have in the grey and love, but this mustard/golden yellow is really nice for fall. I tried the XS because my grey is size S and it’s pretty roomy. But I think I prefer the fit of the small; it’s not as clingy.

Treasure & Bond Scoop Neck Cotton T-Shirt

t-shirt // jeans // sandals

And you may have seen this one in last week’s What I Wore Lately. It came in my last Trunk Club box, and I thought the color was nice for fall. It’s pretty voluminous, but the sleeves and neckline are fun — a little more special than a basic tee. I hope it will take up a bit after I wash it. It’s a size small.

Caslon V-Neck Dolman Sweater

sweater // jeans // sandals

This is just a really easy short sleeved sweater to throw on with shorts and sandals now, and jeans and booties later. Or jeans and sandals whenever! Here it is with a front tuck.

Cute, right? It comes in some other colors too. I’m wearing the small, and it’s pretty roomy. If you’re smaller on top, you could probably size down.

Harper Rose Sleeveless Sheath Dress

dress // sandals

[flex_row][/flex_row]

This dress also came in my last Trunk Club. There wasn’t much in it that I liked, but I did like this dress. Unfortunately it was too small and the size I need (the 10) is now sold out. So basically, this dress runs really small. Size up one or two sizes, if ordering. But it would make a nice wedding guest dress this fall. It’s very flattering.

Marc Fisher Annabel Bootie

boots // jeans // tee

[flex_row][/flex_row]

These boots are the other item from Trunk Club that I kept. Aren’t they gorgeous? I love the color, and the shape and the details. They’re really comfortable too, and they run true to size.

LOFT Fall Styles

I’ve been struggling with LOFT lately, but I found a couple of cute sweaters. Unfortunately, the colors I have are sold out. Grrrr….  I’ll share them anyway, in case of restocks.

LOFT V-Neck Poncho Sweater {Fresh Ochre}

sweater // jeans // sneakers

I think this poncho is really fun for transition season. The sweater isn’t super high quality and feels a little rough, but it’s not scratchy or anything. The color is kind of funky, but I like it for fall. I’m wearing the small.

LOFT Striped V-Neck Poncho Sweater {Whisper White}

sweater // jeans // sandals // boots

And this is the striped version. I first tried it on with sandals, and then I switched to white booties.

I was also curious to see how the boots look with these AGOLDE Toni straight ankle jeans, and I think it works. They do get caught on the back as I move around, but it’s not a deal breaker.

LOFT V-Neck Pocket Cardigan {Warm Gold}

cardigan // tee // jeans // sneakers

And this sweater is that same golden yellow color as the poncho above. It looks a lot different in person than it does online, but I kind of like it. The ribbed knit and contrasting buttons add interest, and it’s a nice middle length. My biggest complaint is that the sleeves are a little too short. It runs true to size; wearing the small.

Old Navy + Amazon Fall Try-Ons

Okay, home stretch! I’ve got a couple of tops from Old Navy and Amazon to show you.

Old Navy Ruffled Floral-Print Short-Sleeve Blouse {Navy Floral}

blouse // jeans // sandals

I wanted to like this top. I could really use a few dark florals for this summer to fall transition, but the fabric on this is too stiff and it doesn’t drape well. It’s a shame because it’s a cute top otherwise. I’m in the small.

Old Navy Ruffled Floral-Print Short-Sleeve Blouse {White/Yellow}

blouse // jeans // sandals

And this is the other color, which is more summery than fall, but it could work. It would actually be cute under that mustard yellow LOFT cardigan.

HZSONNE Leopard Crew Neck Sweater

sweater // jeans // boots

I had high hopes for this sweater, but the color is nothing like it appears online. (It’s the Z-brown.) It’s way too garish for my liking. I wish I’d ordered the Z-khaki, but I also don’t love the sleeve length. They feel short to me, which is weird because they look nice and long on the model. It also says it needs to be hand-washed, so yeah. It’s going back.

[flex_row] [/flex_row]

I hate to end on a bad note, but I’m out of pictures for now! I do have a few more things in my room I want to try and photograph, but those will have to wait until next week.

  1. I wonder if you would’ve liked the last sweater better with your new rich brown booties? It would have been a nice match, but you didn’t like the sweater anyway!

  2. I am so glad to know you are okay. Funny how accustomed I’ve become to getting your email every morning.
As always, I value your try in sessions pointing out why something works or doesn’t work for you coloring and body type.

  3. As always, I love your try-on hauls! I ordered the Caslon sweater, but the striped was already sold out. I ordered the Navy. I had ordered the Vince short sleeve sweater in the Anniversary Sale, but it was canceled, and they didn’t come back with my size until the sale was over. I still have it in my wish list in case it goes on sale again, but in the meantime, I think I will enjoy this one.

  4. Thinking of Paul as he gets ready for surgery. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Just a note on your visiting him: bring a sweater! Hospitals are so cold! Also, bring something to read since he will probably do a lot of resting/sleeping.
I wish the mules were less expensive. I love them, but they are not in my budget. I usually don’t like mules, but these are beautiful.

  5. Good thoughts for Paul. One thing to keep in mind, hospital visiting policies are changing on a dime right now. A friends mom went in on a Wednesday when you could have 2 visitors. By the next day it was limited to one visitor for one hour. As long as you go in with low expectations, it’s not a big deal. Hospital staff is working extra hard right now.

    1. Good to know. Yeah, they said he is allowed 2 visitors a day, but I realize things can change on a dime. I know that hospital staff everywhere is maxed out. So grateful for them.

  6. I really enjoy your ‘try-on hauls’! So many great outfits and ideas! I need to find some new jeans in the new styles but I have such a hard time! I’m very short and so many jeans don’t come in petites!! Praying that all goes well for your husbands surgery!

  7. Good Morning!! The Top or Sweater that you showed last in the teal color with the Hustle Ankle jeans, I didn’t see a description. I too like turtle neck short sleeve tops. I love the color. Also, I’m so glad the kids are doing good. I had a colon resection in 1999 but I had cancer. I pray Paul will come through his surgery really well. Hope this will take care of his problem. I have a touch of diverticulitis along with IBS. I really have to watch what I eat. It might take a while but he will be okay. Many Prayers and I hope you have a great day!!🧡🌻

  8. Thank you for your update. Prayers to Paul and your entire family. Like the previous message from Linda, I also love short sleeve turtlenecks and would love to know more about the heathered green sweaterthat you modeled. Thank you.

  9. Morning, I love the try-on hauls. I just ordered the Caslon sweater and the treasure and bond tee. Wishing you luck with Paul and his surgery. The best thing he can do after surgery if they allow him due to covid is to walk. It will jumpstart the process. My husband has had 2 colon resections (crohn’s) and still often has flare ups. Its been 12 years since his last resection. He is an unusual case. Definitely bring a sweater and book, and make sure you know the hospital policy. My husband has been in the hospital twice since June and if there is only one visitor aloud per day and you want that to be you make sure others no not to visit until he gets home or you will not be able to see him. I wish your family the best!!! I’m sure your husband will heal quickly.. Good Luck

  10. Please let Paul know that he is and will be in my prayers. I’m sending lots of positive thoughts your way. And yes, I will definitely understand that you may not be able to post daily for the next few weeks. Taking care of Paul comes first! I really like scything from Evereve. The tops from Nordstrom and items from Loft are good, as well. I need a pair of jeans to hold my tummy in without putting pressure on my sacroiliac. Ha! Ha! Don’t think that’s possible. I hope that y’all aren’t having nasty weather from Ida! Great news on David and Beck’s first day back hitting the books.

  11. The waiting time up to surgery is the worst: such an anxious/ nervous time. Thinking and praying for Paul’s successful surgery and speedy recovery. You sure have a lot going on all at one time. Take care of yourself too; this is when people catch colds from getting run down. Bring some foam ear plugs for Paul; hospitals are busy and noisy places and it can be hard to fall asleep or stay asleep from all the hustle and bustle going going on especially if he has a room mate in his hospital patient room. He may want an iPad to watch on days# 2 post op & onwards to distract him, watch movies on, etc…….Time can really drag on as a patient in a hospital. Distraction can help with post op pain too. Love the olive bomber jacket! Such a nice jacket for fall. Take all the time you need off; we totally understand and are wishing you folks the best.

  12. I realize you have lots of boots/booties – as do I. However, with Chelsea/Lug booties – I am struggling to know which color to get. Not sure how I am going to like them. Assuming I return to work in an office, they would only be a Friday/and non-work wear purchase so I do not know if I should just get black to carry me through winter or if a lighter color would work for both fall and winter. If you had to pick one, any idea which you would pick for fall and winter?

    1. Hey Robin. As with most things, it depends largely on your wardrobe and the color that will go with the most things. I would consider what pants you will be wearing with them. I’m keeping the Tory Burch cognac ones for sure. They’re not as bulky as the black ones I have. I think I will also keep the Blondo in black. Again, I like that they’re not quite as bulky/casual. I really don’t know which I will reach for more yet, as I have a lot of grey jeans and also light wash jeans. The black will be best with grey. The cognac will look best with light.

  13. Keeping Paul, and your entire family in my thoughts and prayers, Jo-Lynne. Don’t stress over taking some time off for Paul’s surgery and recovery. I love “hearing from you” every day but it’s more important to me that you take care of your family and yourself. We’ll all still be here when things calm down!
I enjoyed this try-on hall. I feel like this year we’re making huge changes in everyday fashion– as opposed to the runway– and I like it, but it’s also scary. Lol. I’m really liking ankle-length jeans with a wider hem. It’s funny but I have loved my skinnies for so many years and now they’re the jeans that are collecting dust. Maybe it was time for a change. I am struggling with the looser cut of tops, though. I feel frumpy when mixing them with the looser bottoms. I also don’t like longer tops with the looser jeans but am having a hard time finding in-between-lengths as my belly-baring days are over.

  14. Hi Jolynnea,
Thanks for Try on Haul, I appreciate the hard work you put into searching for all of us.
Take care and prayers to your husband & the surgeon for successful surgery & speedy recovery.
    Lynn

  15. Hey Jo Lynne! I have a question! I am trying to clean out my closet. I have gotten rid of a lot of clothes that are too big or too little. When I shop should I buy outfits or separates or stick to the basics. If I buy separates they might go with a few things. That’s probably how I’ve accumulated so many clothes. Guess I should be more careful. I’ve got a closet full with nothing to wear. Haha! If you have blogged on this before, please repost. Thank you!!🧡☺

    1. I usually buy separates unless I have a specific event I’m buying for, or I see an outfit on a mannequin and want it all, lol. I try to think about what I will wear with the pieces, bring them home, try them on with other items in my closet. If it goes with 2 or 3 things, it’s usually safe to keep. I still may not reach for it a lot, like if it doesn’t really fit my current lifestyle or if it doesn’t fit well. So a lot of factors to consider. Keep tags on until you start wearing it so you can return if need be.

  16. I love the short sleeved teal color turtleneck that you posted but I didn’t see a link to that. Could you please repost the link to that sweater?
    Thanks,
    Kathy

  17. Hi Jo-Lynne! Thanks for another great try on haul. I love those grey Good American cigarette jeans especially. Prayers for a safe recovery for Paul. My father just had major surgery and was in the hospital for days. As others have said, getting him up and walking was a priority and it seems like the hospital staff did a good job making that happen. He was super bored so books, and an ipad with downloaded movies or shows Paul likes might be good. And something cozy and warm to wear for when he gets out of bed to walk.

  18. I subscribe to the weekend Q and A and love it! I saw that someone asked about a cleaning routine and I know that you’ve got a person. What I’ve found has changed my life! I use the Method products from Target. They are super and don’t trigger migraines in people who have them and luckily I don’t. The wood floor cleaner smells like almonds and I know how you feel about those! My routine is Monday I do dusting, Tuesday I clean appliances and mirrors, Wednesday vacuum, Thursday is wet mop wood floors, Friday is clean bathroom. The weekend is free for relaxing, grocery shopping and doing yard work. This program works and my house is clean and it only takes a few minutes to do these chores daily! Anne S. in Lafayette, LA

  19. Love the navy dress, and the collar is so becoming. Navy is such a good shade, find myself going for that over black as I get older.

  20. It sounds like you are going to have a couple of very busy weeks. I appreciate all you do. Hope your husband has a speedy recovery.

  21. I always love to see your try ons! There are a lot of good finds in this one! I really like the sleeveless sweater and olive green jacket!
I will keep Paul and you in my prayers as he has surgery on Friday! Prayers for a speedy recovery and safety for all during his visit.
Hope you are all safe during these heavy rains and flooding💕
