Elevated 4th of July Outfit

Happy Monday, friends! Today is the final post in my summer style series with Cyndi Spivey, and Tania from 50 Is Not Old is joining us to style an outfit for the 4th of July.

Tania is probably no stranger to many of you; we’ve teamed up with her before. She shares lots of affordable fashion for women over 50, usually with a good story to go along with it. Definitely check out her blog and give her a follow on Instagram.

I went all out and styled three patriotic-inspired looks for Memorial Day weekend gatherings, and I remember thinking, How will I top this for the 4th?

Well, I didn’t even try. Instead, I styled an elevated look that I might wear if I was going out somewhere a little nicer on 4th of July weekend, whether it be a party at a friend’s or maybe out to eat.

sweater // jeans (also at Saks) // slides (also at Zappos) // bag // sunnies // earrings // bracelet

I think this crochet top from White House Black Market is so cute. It plays into the popular boho trend, but in a way that aligns with my classic style. There’s also something about it that I find really feminine and pretty.

The cropped length and wide banded waistband is figure-flattering and pairs well with high-rise cropped jeans, like my favorite Mother Insiders.

This is the Hey Sun wash, and I like it for those times when I don’t want all the distressing my other pair in the Dancing On Coals wash has going on. You can find them at Saks and Bloomies, and they run true to size or you can size up if in between. For some reason, these are tighter than my other pairs, and I wish I’d gone up to the 29.

In keeping with the denim and white combo, I wore these ivory embellished slides. I’ve been featuring them a lot lately! I just like how they add a little bling to a casual outfit, and I feel like they complement the crochet sweater nicely.

I’m wearing the Modern Ivory, and I definitely recommend sizing up half. They fit my narrow feet well and don’t slip off when I walk. They’re also on sale!

I went with gold and ivory jewelry to keep the look cohesive, and my nails are painted navy blue. It’s called CND Midnight Swim, and it has been a summer favorite for years.

I also carried my white Tory Burch hobo, and my oversized square sunnies have brown tortoiseshell frames and gold accents.

While this look doesn’t scream July 4th, white and denim has a certain summery vibe that seems festive in an understated way — especially with the embellished slides and gold jewelry. I will definitely find an opportunity to wear this outfit, whether it’s over the 4th or for another event this summer.

  1. P.S. I don’t know how I missed the maxi dress you posted from Talbots. That’s totally my stylet. Thanks!

  2. I’m not sure my question got sent to you Jo-Lynne. I was asking you about the Zella joggers. I’m in the market for a pair. I know you have posted them on your blog more than once. I think I’m going to get black. I did see that they have some new ones from Wit & Wisdom, but I’m not sure about that third pocket. I do have several pairs of Wit & Wisdom jeans and they’re some of my favorites.
Which Zella joggers do you like? Do you think I should wait for them to go on the upcoming sale?

  3. I did miss your coffee talk but you do need to take breaks too. We are having very high temps here in NW Oregon. Yesterday was 106 and today will be hotter. I want our normal Summer weather back. Lol. I love white tops and keep wanting to buy them this year, so I like the outfit you are styling.

    1. ITs a historic heaT wave in western Canada too. Its 115 in parts of British Columbia – sweltering! Fingers crossed no wild fires for us on west coast. Heat wave lasting another week. Ugh…….wish we had a pool. Love this outfit Jo-Lynne! The boho inspired sweater top is beautIful.

  4. You look fabulous in all of these outfits! Thanks so much for inviting me to link up with you and Cyndi!
