What I Wore Lately Vol. 57

Wow, what a difference a week makes. Last week, we were having unseasonably mild temperatures and low humidity. It was gorgeous. This week, I feel like I’m walking into a sauna every time I venture outside.

You will definitely see that progression as I share my outfits from the past couple of weeks. That’s right, What I Wore Lately is on Tuesday this week!

I had a post scheduled today with Nordstrom, but I didn’t get a chance to take pictures until yesterday, so I’m giving myself another day to get that post together.

Since we’re getting out and about more, I have A LOT of outfits to share. That means this post is a bit lengthy, so let’s get started. Oh, but before we do, I’d love for you to fill out a little #NSale Shopper Survey that I created. It will help me as I plan content around the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

And if you missed it, I posted my Guide to Shopping the #NSale a couple of weeks ago. It contains all of this year’s dates, my best tips for preparing for the sale, and everything else you need to know.

Okay, let’s get this party started!

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and around 137 pounds, with an hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

What I Wore Lately

This first look harkens back to Wednesday, June 16th. I always have to look back at my calendar to remember what was going on when I space these posts out two weeks apart. Evidently I had a photo shoot with Alison that morning, which explains the hair and makeup. I must have thrown this on afterwards, it’s one of my go-to outfits this year.

twist detail tee // Mother Insiders (also at Saks & Shopbop) // SE puffy slides (also at Nordstrom) // similar pendant // Yurman earrings & bracelet

Both the tee and the jeans are as soft and comfy as a tee and jeans can get, and I like the twist detail on the neck of the tee as well as the short, cuffed sleeves. I just realized that they’re really a dolman style, the way they’re cut in one piece with the body of the top. I always love a dolman sleeve, for some reason. It seems to de-emphasize my large chest.

Of course, you already know how much love I have for these jeans — to think, I almost didn’t keep them! They were a ridiculous splurge, but on a cost per wear basis, I’m definitely going to get my money’s worth. I just love the ultra-casual vibe, and they’re the perfect length and fit for crop flares.

My jewelry is a bit much for this outfit, but I think I just threw on my favorite pieces for the heck of it. I’m not one to save my nicest stuff for a special occasion. I figure, it’s meant to be worn and enjoyed.

Okay, moving on! I had an appt with my chiropractor the next day, and otherwise I just worked from home. I wore another soft tee and my 2nd favorite pair of jeans.

tie dye tee // AGOLDE Tonis (also at Shopbop & Evereve) // Birks (other colors at Nordstrom & Zappos) // Lagos earrings

These are also really soft and comfortable, but the rise is a bit lower and the denim a bit thicker. I like the Mother denim better for summer, but it wasn’t hot outside that day, as I recall.

The next morning, I had a viewing to attend. I tried to wear this White House Black Market top again — you may recall that I tried it on to wear to church a few weeks ago, and I felt like it was too low-cut. Once again, it didn’t seem quite right for this conservative, somber occasion.

WHBM tassel tank // black ankle skinny pants // SE pumps (also at Nordstrom) // Kendra Scott hoops (20% off!) // Yurman bracelet // double strand coin necklace

So then I went back to my trusty dolman top from Banana Republic. The looser fit and slightly higher neckline just seemed more appropriate, even though the differences might be minor.

I also tried walking in those pumps, and while they’re fairly comfortable, I was worried I’d wipe out on the pavement. After a year of joggers and sneakers, I’m out of practice walking in heels. If I want to wear pumps again, I’ll need to start practicing around the house.

Anywho. I switched into these strappy sandals, and I was much more comfortable.

olive dolman top // black ankle skinny pants // Bella Vita sandals (size down half; also at Nordstrom) // Kendra Scott hoops (20% off) // Yurman bracelet // double strand coin necklace // Kate Spade shoulder bag (similar)

I had a manicure appointment after that, so I changed into this casual look. Evidently, I was really feeling the olive and black that day! I also wore this out to a casual dinner with Paul and R that night.

I’ve had these cargo joggers for going on four years now — actually, this is my second pair; I replaced them when I lost weight back in the early part of last year. They’re a great casual alternative to blue jeans, but I recommend sizing down; they run a little big in the waist.

tie dye muscle tee // Paige Mayslie cargo joggers (size down; also at Saks, Bloomies & Shopbop) // Dolce Vita slides c/o (size up half; also at Nordstrom) // Kendra Scott hoops (20% off) // double strand coin necklace // Lagos bracelets

That brings us to Saturday, and I was back in my Mother Insiders. I’d wear them every other day if I didn’t feel the pressure to change up my looks for this post.

tie dye tank c/o // Mother Insiders (also at Saks & Shopbop) // SE slides on sale! (size up; also at Nordstrom) // Kendra Scott hoops (20% off) // Lagos bracelets

I also love this casual raw edge tank with the subtle tie dye print. It has the perfect ultra-casual vibe for pairing with the distressed, chew hem jeans. I have my usual size small, but it just fits. You may want to size up if in between.

We had plans to go out that night. Paul wanted to meet up with a few friends at a bar, and then we went out to dinner afterwards. He told me they were both really causal places, but I didn’t realize how casual until we got there. I would have dressed down even more.

This was my first attempt at a casual date-night look. It’s hard to see here, but this blouse does have some light blue in the print. I thought wearing it with faded jeans would do the trick, but there’s something about this combo that I just didn’t like.

LOFT floral top (only in petites) // rag & bone Cate skinnies // Dolce Vita sandals c/o // Kendra Scott hoops (20% off) // similar pendant // Lagos bracelets

So then I switched into my AG Farrahs. I haven’t worn these in a while, and I almost forgot how much I love my skinnies. This darker wash still has enough distressing to read casual, but I feel like they’re more flattering on me than the lighter wash — which seems to draw the eye to my hips. I also prefer the lower contrast between the colors in the top and the jeans.

At the last minute, I decided to switch the low-heel slides for block heel ankle strap sandals. I love these, and I haven’t worn them at all these season. Slides really have taken the limelight this year, but I love a good ankle strap sandal, although a lower heel would probably have been better suited to our venues that night. Oh, well. It never hurts to be a little over-dressed.

LOFT floral top (only in petites) // AG FArrah raw hem skinnies // Stuart Weitzman sandals (similar for less) // Kendra Scott hoops (20% off) // similar pendant // Lagos bracelets

I wore this casual dress to church that next Sunday. It is my go-to for when I want something comfortable but elevated. I love how easily it can be dressed up or down. I wore it to C’s graduation with metallic wedge sandals, but I kept it more casual for the laidback dress code at our church with my beige Miller sandals.

Eileen Fisher knit dress (old) // TB Miller sandals // Kendra Scott hoops (20% off) // similar pendant // Lagos bracelets // ruched baguette bag

This dress an #NSale purchase from last year, so unfortunately it’s sold out, but Eileen Fisher usually has a really good knit dress in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and I’m hoping she’ll bring another one this year. Who remembers this one from 2019? I’m definitely crossing my fingers for something good in this year’s lineup!

Okay, let’s come back to 2021. This skirt and top are both from Evereve. I guess I wore this last Monday, but I didn’t have it on for very long because I had a friend and her kids over to swim. Oh, wait, it’s coming back to me. I wore this after our swim date, to an appointment with one of my daughters.

Michael Stars muscle tank c/o (on sale) // Sundry Saturday Skirt c/o // SE sandals size up (40% off; also at Zappos) // Lagos bracelets // Maui Jim sunnies

The muscle tank is on sale, and I love it. This style is very much on trend right now, and it’s very soft and comfortable. Michael Stars is a higher price point than a lot of my casual tees and tanks, but the quality is there. If it’s in your budget, I highly recommend this brand.

I worked from home all day last Tuesday; it was pouring down rain, so I was happy I had nowhere to go. I threw on this casual shorts outfit with my Birks.

twist detail tee // Gap raw hem denim shorts (on sale for $30) // Birks (other colors at Nordstrom & Zappos) // similar pendant // Lagos bracelets

And then I guess I got chilly and changed into this. I honestly have no recollection as to why I changed out the t-shirt and everything — and the glasses, too. I guess my contacts were bugging me.

BR cardigan // white tee (more sizes) // 7FAM Josefina boyfriend jeans (40% off) // Birks // similar earrings (mine are 11mm) // similar pendant // specs

Last Wednesday, I hosted another friend and her kids at our pool, but it was a mild weather day so she and I just sat on the deck and gabbed. I wore this tie dye muscle tee and denim Bermuda shorts. By the way, the tee is back in stock in several sizes and 30% off with code HBDUSA.

I don’t usually pair dark denim with navy; I generally prefer more of a contrast, but sometimes the tone on tone look works. I guess the white stripes break it up enough.

LOFT tie dye muscle tee (30% off) // Good American Good Bermudas // TB Miller sandals // similar earrings (mine are 11mm)

I had a pedicure appt last Thursday, so I wore this comfy sweatshirt tee and shorts set. I’ve got a full review in my last Try-On Haul.

Lou & Grey muscle tee & drawstring shorts // Dolce Vita slides c/o (also at Nordstrom) // similar earrings (mine are 11mm) // similar pendant

After that, I took my daughter to the mall, so I changed into this casual look. Yes, another sweatshirt tee. I’m loving these right now! They play into that ultra-casual summery vibe that I love. This one is a little heavy for the weather we’re having right now, but it wasn’t as warm last week.

Chaser sweatshirt tee c/o // Mother Insiders (also at Saks & Shopbop) // Birks // similar earrings (mine are 11mm) // similar pendant

Goodness, this post is becoming more of a novel than a short story! This look is from last Friday. My best friend took me to lunch for my birthday, and I decided to forego my usual girls’ lunch out uniform of white jeans and dressy top for a summery little black dress.

Peyton Jensen ruched dress c/o // Dolce Vita sandals c/o // colorblock tote // rattan earrings // layered necklace c/o (on sale!) // Victoria Emerson cuff c/o // Gucci sunnies

This stretchy ruched dress borrows from the muscle tee trend for an updated LBD that you can dress up or down. The ruched skirt is flattering, and you can adjust the length if you want it a little shorter or longer.

I have the small, but I sort of wish I’d asked for the medium so it would fit me a little more like the model on the website. (She’s in the small, which should have tipped me off!) Anyway, the medium might be too long under the arms, and this one is okay, so I went with it.

I tried to dress it down with rattan earrings, flat sandals, and this fun straw colorblock tote, but I think I’d prefer a darker color earring. I took this picture when I got back home, so you can get a better look at them. I feel like these look pretty stark against the black dress, and the set has white and brown options, so in the future, I’ll try to remember to try the brown with a black top or dress.

Paul and I had dinner reservations for dinner that night, so I swapped out the tote for a metallic clutch and the flats for heels. I also switched into silver tone jewelry, which is dressier than the rattan, but somehow, I totally forgot to put on a bracelet.

I didn’t realize it until we were driving out of our neighborhood. Paul almost turned the car around so I could get one, bless his heart. Even though we had time, I told him it was silly to go back, so we just went on our way. I didn’t really miss it, but it does seem noticeable in this picture.

Peyton Jensen ruched dress c/o // Steve Madden block heel slides // metallic ruched clutch // Kendra Scott filigree drop earrings & layered necklace (both 20% off) // Victoria Emerson cuff c/o // Gucci sunnies

Here’s a picture from dinner. This quaint little French restaurant is our absolute favorite, but it’s pricey so we only go once a year. Last year, we went for our anniversary, and this year he took me for my birthday.

Alrighty! That brings us to Saturday, and we had friends over for a cookout. It was a weird weather day — cloudy with rain off and on, and that’s when the heat and humidity moved in. We were able to sit outside, but it was quite muggy.

This skirt is the camo version of the stripe one above, and I like it even better. I feel like the darker, smaller scale print is more flattering than the horizontal stripes. It’s also softer, for some reason.

Michael Stars muscle tank c/o (on sale) // Sundry Saturday Skirt c/o // Dolce Vita slides c/o (also at Nordstrom) // hammered metal earrings // snake wrap bracelet

I wore this floral LOFT tank again on Sunday for church, but this time I paired it with cigarette jeans in a super dark inky blue wash that matches the background of the top. This is my favorite pairing for this top. I just wish these jeans had a higher rise. It amazes me that I used to feel like 9″ was high!

The neutral slides match my skin color almost exactly, which is intentional. I love the barely-there look, and how that showcases the jeans and top, but they’re still pretty with the braided straps.

LOFT floral top (only in petites) // AG Prima cigarette leg jeans // Dolce Vita braided slides // Kendra Scott hoops (20% off) // layered necklace c/o (on sale!) // Victoria Emerson cuff c/o

Pardon the crazy sun stripes on my legs, but I wanted to capture this because I threw these shorts on after church to remember how they fit, and I was surprised by how comfortable they are. The material isn’t your typical twill; it’s more of a satiny, stretchy fabric.

I decided to keep them on for the afternoon, and I added this casual black tank. It’s old and no longer linkable, but I love the fit and feel, so I’ve held onto it.

Treasure & Bond tank (old) // WHBM pret-a-play shorts // Dolce Vita slides c/o (also at Nordstrom) // similar earrings (mine are 11mm)

And finally! This last look is from yesterday. It was really too hot for this top, but I wore it home from my photo shoot, so I just kept it on.

These shorts were tight when I pulled them on, but they loosened up a lot throughout the day. They’re my true size 28, so I’m not saying to size down. But if you try them and they feel tight, they will loosen up. By the way, they’re on sale for $28 + 20% off at checkout.

Chaser sweatshirt tee c/o // Old Navy Bermuda shorts (on sale for $28 + 20% off at checkout) // Freedom Moses slides c/o // Kendra Scott hoops (20% off) // layered necklace c/o (on sale) // Lagos bracelets

  1. great post! Love all the outfits. How is the sizing on the white Birks? I have a couple pair of Birks, wear size 7 in regular shoe and 37narrow in Birks that I have already. Thanks!

  2. Really love the black ruched dress. Wish it came in navy but might order anyway. And thanks for including the rattan earrings. Also liked the camo skirt. Seems more wearable than the navy/white.

  3. Cute looks as always. I just pulled the trigger on those 7FAMK jeans, because I’ve loved them on you every time I you’ve styled them, and that brand works well for me. You had mentioned the zappo’s sale a while back, but they were out of my size, and today they said they had one pair, so yay. Happy almost birthday!! 🙂

  4. I don’t blame you for being obsessed with the Mother jeans, I love my white pair and the Hey Sun pair. The outfit with the Loft floral top and AG Farrah jeans and sandals is the bomb! I have the top and jeans and this is exactly a look that I would wear! And I always overdress when I go out because I can slob around at home. When I go out, I want to look nice! I have a hard time living in such a casual world sometimes, lol. And I noticed that Paul was wearing jeans when you went out for your birthday, while you were wearing a nice dress. That’s like my husband. He wants to wear jeans or shorts to a nice dinner and I tell him, hey, you’ve got to level up to me! Ha ha! I say it a little nicer than that. 🙂

    1. I find myself overdressing to go to the grocery store! I have so many really nice clothes and nowhere to wear them!! 😆. As for the husband, when we go out somewhere special I usually pick out his clothes and lay them neatly on the bed…hint hint!! Ha!!

  5. I just Love this Post. You have the best fashion sense and everything looks beautiful on you, whether you dress up or down. I especially Love your Church outfits. I’m forever trying to figure out what to wear. I have really learned a lot from your posts. Thank you so much!! Love your blog and your Facebook group. Have a great day. ❤🌹

  6. Love all of these! But the olive shirt/black pants look amazing on you. Olive is a beautiful color on you.

  7. Thanks for such a great post! I’m glad you mentioned those Bermuda shorts do stretch out a bit. I recently purchased them and was going to return because they felt pretty tight around my thighs but now I’ll try them a little longer to see if they can work. 🙂

  8. Love all these looks! Glad you had a great day on your early birthday celebration! This heat wave is for real…. yowzer! It hit 49C or 120F in parts of British Columbia which is not our norm at all…. Its close to 100 in Alberta. Lots of us don’t have or don’t need A/C so it has been a slog. Sales of A/Cs have gone nuts. Bought a kiddie pool from Walmart just for a break in the shade:) Safe travels on your holiday to Maine.

  9. I really enjoy seeing how you dress for your week(s) so I don’t mind at all that this post is long. I especially like your reasons for wearing a particular outfit or accessory. Thank you, Jo-Lynne.

  10. I too still love my skinnies but starting to feel funny when I wear them. The wider leg is starting to change my view, but not enough to give them up. I know we all will be back to wearing them more come Fall/Winter, as they are much easier to pair with boots/shoes. I love the Mother, but they are too distressed for me and I think I’d feel funny in them at my age. I love the floral top with the AGFarrah jeans on you. I also love the Eileen Fisher burgundy dress on you and also the one in the Nordstrom dressing room…black/navy? Great style for casual dress. I also love the LBD on you and how you added the color block tote with it. Sooo cute. The picture of you and Paul is very cute and the restaurant looks so fun. I agree with the lady in the one of the post. I think sometimes we go out and everyone is so casual and don’t try to wear anything upscale. I’m tired of the “ultra casual from home look” after a year of Covid restrictions and so now I want to dress up more and when I do, I feel kind of funny where we live. Our church also is very casual. I really have a hard time deciding what to wear to church, especially during the Summer. Anyways, great post. You look great in all the outfits you wear.

  11. I love these posts Jolynne! I’ve bought several pieces from your choices. And honestly when I click on the links and view the products, you look so much better styling them than the models. So I always go back and take a second look. Thank you for showing what real life looks like for you.

  12. As always, I love seeing how you really dress. It is obvious that you have been spending a lot of time out in the sun. I am a very fair skinned girl that hates using self tanner, so I stay Snow White all year. I am still contemplating trying one of the muscle tee tops. I did order the ON bermuda shorts in the regular denim and am waiting on them to arrive. I know that you are looking forward to the family vacation in Maine. I hope that all three of your children get to go! Enjoy the rest of your day!

  13. This past week was my first time out in heels…..YIKES!!!!!!
I wore a low heel pump on Wednesday, and a wedge on Thursday. My ankles and and calf area cramped up for 2 nights…OUCH I spent the last year barefoot/socks/slippers or duck boots…Take it slow ladies I think my feet forgot all about shoes..

  14. Awesome post!! I related to your comment about forgetting your bracelet! I feel the same way when I don’t put on one or two rings and a bracelet on my right hand/arm. I feel naked! Haha!! My favorite top is the dark floral blouse from Loft. I have the one from last year that had a dark burgundy background with a blue and olive green floral print. Looks so good with all shades of denim or especially white bottoms.

  15. Happy belated Birthday to you!! Sounds like you’ve had a fun week so far. I’m vacationing right now in Central CA on the coast on a beautiful little town called Carmel-By-The-Sea. It’s cool, a little overcast, and between 64 to 70 degrees …..pure Heaven! Sorry about your “sauna” -I can’t believe the high temperatures being reported around the US right now- crazy! I heard it was 120 in British Columbia today…I didn’t think it ever got hot up there!
I love the Mother Insiders on you. I wish the inseam was longer. I bought the olive top from BR and the Gap raw hem shorts! ❤️
