Embroidered Tank Outfit

With summer winding down, I’m on the lookout for tops that I can wear now and also transition into fall. Lucky Brand has a BOGO 50% off sale going on right now so I ordered a few different tops to try, including this embroidered shell.

I wore it with blue jeans and beige suede lace-up flats to meet my husband for lunch one day last week, and I styled it here with white jeans and espadrilles for a dressier look. This outfit will look great with a denim jacket when the weather gets cooler.

I decided to go with silver accessories since the color palette is rather cool and my neutral shoes have cool undertones and a silver buckle. I don’t always worry about matching the hardware on my shoes, but it worked out with this outfit.

I didn’t bother with a necklace since the top is so busy and the neckline isn’t very wide. Instead, I wore medium-size silver drop earrings and layered two of my favorite bracelets.

My crossbody bag is from the #NSale last year, and I’m so glad they brought it back this year and it’s still in stock. I carry it a lot. It’s a great size, and the french grey color goes with so much.

Even though it’s a gorgeous bag, I think the full retail price is high for what it is. Hopefully it will go on sale later in the season; it did last year. I will definitely let you know if/when that happens!

These shoes are old favorite as well. If you’ve followed my blog for long, you know I have a major weakness for this brand. Not only are the materials and workmanship top quality, but they’re incredibly comfortable as well. I had another pair of his espadrilles that I wore for 10 years, so last year I decided to replace them with these.

I have the dove grey, and they also came in white and adobe. They’re available this season in limited sizes at 6pm.com and Nordstrom Rack, but I’ll link to some other neutral wedge sandals that I recommend in the shopping widget at the end of this post.

I love the embroidered detail on this tank along with the scalloped hemline, and the colors are so pretty. The straps are wide enough to wear a regular bra, which is always a bonus.

The back is a solid sage in a soft cotton and it has a pretty gathered detail between the shoulders. I wish we’d thought to take a photo from behind, but you can see it if you click through to the website.

For size reference, I have the small. I often wear medium in Lucky Brand tops, but I was able to size down in this one.

The nice thing about a patterned top like this is it’s easy to put an outfit together around it. The top is the hero piece, and the rest of the outfit just has to support it without competing with it. Pair it with a solid bottom, add neutral shoes and bag, and finish off the look with a few simple accessories. Easy!

  1. Love, love, love this outfit. The colors in the top are so pretty and I think it would definitely look good with jeans!
Thanks for sharing your advice in your email, as I remember a time when I wanted to work from home so desperately but when I finally got the opportunity, I really missed getting dressed everyday and putting myself together to get out of the house. The old saying “be careful what you ask for” comes to mind. Lol

  2. Beautiful outfit! I saw the instagram pic with blue jeans and that looks good too. Love the colors in this blouse.

  3. I love this outfit! The colors are beautiful together. It can be easy to think of just having a lazy day, but I feel the same way you do after awhile. It is good to get ready, even when we don’t want to. 🙂

  4. I work from home the majority of the time and hear what you are saying about a style rut loud and clear! So I make it a point to get ready every day. It helps to put me in a work mode and I’m always ready for unexpected visitors (which happens often when you have a house full of teenagers). I love how all of the colors of this outfit work together! It’s a great transition outfit for fall. Very pretty!

  5. What a stunning top! Even if we can’t buy that one, we know how to let a decorative top be the focal point and pull an outfit together. It’s nice to know that you gave yourself a grace day. I think our facial skin needs days without makeup.

    Thank you!

  6. I have been keeping my eye on a top very similar to this one, now that I have seen you model it I am going to buy this top. Love your intro today, we all have one of those “grace days” and thank you for reminding me its ok, to just lounge around in my yoga pants sometimes, especially if I am having a bad day.

  7. So pretty! Do you ever read Imogen Lamport’s Inside Out style blog? You made me think of her when you said a hero piece :)….I think you would like her, and she does some videos and has a lovely Australian accent! 🙂 Have a good week.

  8. Beautiful outfit with the top and you as the highlight.!
I could identify with your lead in regarding getting in a rut. Because I work at home , I am on my computer by 5:30 still in m PJs, I used to remain in them until afternoon! it was not pretty!! Lol. I decided to put time limits on when to exercise, eat breakfast, shower, makeup and into an outfit for the day. Hopefully pulled together by 10 am. Like you said, even if it is just a trip to CVS , I want to look presentable because I feel better about myself and my husband certainly appreciates it!????

  9. I feel the same way. I look forward to a day at home but get restless by noon. Unless it’s a snow day, then I can totally relax with a good book and my iPad. Hopefully, we don’t get any of those soon. Lol
Love your top! It truly is the star of your outfit.

  10. Absolutely love this top on you! You wear sleeveless tops and skinnies so well. I can relate to the grace days spiraling into a not so great day! Your packing for vacation posts triggered an idea for me to combat those days. Lay out my clothes for the week using your packing technique. It’s amazing how much it helps! I’m blessed to be able to work part time but it can make it difficult to stay in a routine.

    Thanks for keeping it real!

  11. Beautiful outfit. Thanks for adding the analysis about the accessories you chose (or didn’t choose). Declaring that the tank was the “hero” of the outfit resonated with me. This makes creating a similar outfit much easier for me to do.

  12. Jolynne, The cool colors in this top look beautiful on you, and I love your purple toes, too! I like that you’ve worn what I’m assuming might be some of your nicer bracelets with this outfit. Like many women, I have some nicer pieces of jewelry that I’ve accumulated over the years (usually on sentimental occasions), including delicate pendants, gemstone rings, and bracelets. I love to wear them, but even though they are not what I would consider outdated, I sometimes have difficulty figuring out how to pair them with outfits in a way that looks modern and stylish. Maybe tips in this area could be an idea for a future post? Thanks for doing what you do – you’ve really helped me up my style game!

  13. I LOVE this top. And it looks amazing on you. I was looking in my closet today and realize I have very few “hero” pieces. Maybe a post on the subject sometime?

  14. I love this outfit. I especially love those shoes. I would love a pair at some point. Unfortunately I have what I need so can’t justify buying shoes right now.
