August Favorites

Happy Monday, friends! The countdown is on. My kids go back to school in just two weeks, and the next thing we know it will be Labor Day and time for fall fashion.

As I’m starting to think about wrapping up my summer content, I put together my August Favorites for today.

August Favorites

#1. Caslon shirttail hem tank dress // This is a great little summer dress with sandals or fashion sneakers, but it will also be a piece I can wear into fall with ankle boots and a denim jacket. I actually styled it 3 ways in this post a few weeks ago.

#2. Kendra Scott filigree drop earrings // I picked up these earrings on the #NSale, and I liked them so much I got both gold and silver. I find myself wearing them a lot. They’re just big enough to make a statement without being overwhelming, and I like the delicate filigree pattern.

#3. Lucky Brand embroidered shell // I picked this up at Lucky Brand and I’ve already worn it a couple of times. It’s got a gorgeous color palette, and it’s another piece I can easily transition to fall as the weather gets cooler. I’m planning to style it for a post later this week.

#4. Maui Jim sunnies // I shared these in my latest Maui Jim sponsored post, but I wanted to also include them here because I’ve been wearing them so much. I really like the tortoise cat eye frames. Sunglasses are a quick and easy way to update your look, and the best thing is, they always fit no matter if your weight fluctuates or not. Haha!

#5. Lieth suede tassel clutch // This was another #NSale purchase, although I actually have it in yellow, but that color sold out. I also love the grey. It’s the perfect neutral for fall and winter.

Leith Suede Tassel Clutch

#6. Vince slides // It took me a while, but I’m finally getting on the mule/slide bandwagon. I spotted these on the Nordstrom website, and I loved the simplicity and the quality. I ordered them when they were 60% off at Bloomingdale’s, but just this morning I see the price has gone back up. Boo. They’re comfortable and on trend, and I love this color for fall.

  1. Love the earrings and bought during Nordstrom sale! Thanks for the recommendation! BTW, did I miss your coffee post yesterday or was there not one? Have a great day!

      1. Totally understandable. Just wanted to make sure I didn’t miss it. Enjoy your posts. Glad were out enjoying life!

          1. It’s a treat, not an obligation ???? We just want to be sure we didn’t miss anything ????????

  2. I love the grey suede clutch purse and the earrings! I plan to purchase!!! Thank you so much, and have a great day!

  3. HI! Love your blog! One idea for your Fight the Frump Series – choosing jewelry. I have the hardest time with that. Any tips would be helpful! Thanks!!

    1. A lot of people are mentioning jewelry. I need to think about how to create some posts around that. I do try to explain why I choose what I do for my outfits, but it sounds like more of an instructional post could be helpful.

  4. Another good post Jo-Lynne! From my side line perspective as a grandparent, keep trying to stay up late to spend the time with your kids. This next year will fly by and your son will be packing up to move to college. Things won’t be the same after that. Our granddaughters parents are having a much harder time adjusting to the new normal, without her at home. They took her to college Saturday morning, left her around 3, and by that evening she was already telling them how good life is. At that point, her papa rents still didn’t think so.

Your kids will be home for the so,ar eclipse. My granddaughter to,d me last night that they will not be having college classes next Monday, due to the eclipse. I dont know if only afternoon classes are canceled or the whole day.

    Have a blessed day!

  5. You are so right about staying up late to hang out with the teens. I am a night owl anyway but I have found that the best conversations with my three teens happen late at night. My husband is rarely up past 10:30 and he always wonders how I have found out about the latest dramas or dreams of our kids. I’ve told him you have to stay up late…that’s when they let their guards down and forget that they’re really talking to a parent! LOL!

  6. I ordered those earrings and they haven’t come yet….whaaaaa. Hopefully soon. I love that tank! The colors and design are so pretty. It’s hard to stay up late. I’m and early to bed, early to rise girl too, but I’ve been staying up with my daughter some this summer. It’s great you recognize when they are at their best and make an adjustment.❤️

  7. Yes, the late nights with teens! It’s the point where I’m ready to say goodnight to them (9:00!!) That they decide to open up. I can’t turn them away at that moment. I ask God for strength! My first daughter is leaving for college on wed and it’s so bittersweet! How did that time go so quickly? The other place they decide to open up is when we shopping….a quick stop to the store ends up being hours sometimes or when we get home and sit in the car for another 40 minutes!! You are a good mom for staying up and listening to them!!

  8. Hi Jo-Lynne! Happy Monday.

All of these items are great, but you’re right, a little spendy. I can’t seem to get on board with the slides yet, but I am one of those women that a new style takes a while for me to warm up to. Ha.

Hope you have a great day!

  9. I really like the Vince slides…..can’t wait to see how you style them. And yes to an information piece on jewellery!!

  10. Thank you for sharing about my new book, Jo-Lynne! So glad you enjoyed it.

I love, love, love the Lucky top. Trying not to buy it. ????

As my children got older, I found I had to stay up later so we could talk, too. I was never able to stay up until they got in on a Saturday night, though. I used to set my alarm for the time they were due back. They were to come into my bedroom and tell me goodnight and shut off my alarm. It worked perfectly for 4 teens.

    Happy Monday!

    1. That’s a good idea! Usually my husband waits up, but he went to bed and I just couldn’t do it, knowing my kid was out. We don’t really have a curfew so I want someone to be there to answer him when he checks in to let us know what he’s doing. I’ll tell you what, that Find My Phone app for iPhone is a glorious thing. I can check up on him without nagging him with texts, or risk him answering them while driving.

I’m already onto As Close As Sisters. I love your writing style! 🙂

      1. We never had a curfew either! All of my friends thought we were nuts. We asked our children to let us know where they were going and we would agree on a reasonable/safe time to be home. We didn’t want anyone speeding to make curfew. And if they were coming home later than expected, they needed to call us. My husband and I also told our kids where we were going and when we would be home, and if it changed, we let them know.

Using Find My Phone is brilliant!

  11. For reference, what size are you wearing in the embroidered top? I have one Lucky Brand top from a few years ago and it is a size smaller than I usually wear, so I’d just like your input because I think I have to buy this beautiful top! Thanks!

  12. GAP has a similiar slide sandal with a tad higher heel. I didn’t need this color so bought in navy. Love them. GAP also has pretty deep red. They started out like $59.95 but with a sale and coupon money off got mine for $15.95. A steal. In the Fall I wear a lot of navy and cognac together and the navy suede is great. You will get a lot of use out of yours. :). I bet hard to switch your sleep habits. I’m like at 11:15 pm to 7 am girl. :).

  13. My Caslon dress came in yesterday’s mail … wore it today and LOVE it! It’s so comfortable, I’m considering getting another color. I’m not sure how flattering it is on me (it’s an odd length with that shirttail hem), but I’m so comfy that I don’t really care. It’s still in the way-high 90s here so this was a perfect addition to help get me thru the last dog days of summer!

  14. Love the dress and earrings. I recently bought these in Nsale where I got good discount. Your fashion tips really help me in improving my fashion sense. The products you list in your posts, I buy everytime from them. Thanks for fashion tips.
