Fall Color Trends to Try: Army Green

Happy Monday, friends! Cyndi Spivey and I are continuing with our fall fashion series styling fall color trends, and I have another sold-out jacket to share with you today. 🤪 I’m truly sorry, it seems like inventory is moving faster than ever this fall.

Army green is one of my favorite colors to wear this time of year, although for the purposes of this post, we should really be calling it olive because the exact Pantone color that is trending this fall is called Olive Branch.

At any rate, my jacket is really more of a sage green than army green or olive, but all shades of green are trending this fall. I really like this lighter shade for pairing with light wash jeans.

Last week I styled a dark green corduroy utility jacket two ways, and this is yet another variation on that simple outfit formula.

I kept the color palette on the cooler side with the green jacket, light wash jeans, and white tee; but then I added some warmth with cognac brown boots and bag. There are a few sizes left in this jacket, and it’s true to size. Also, you can save 15% at Evereve with code SEPTEMBER.

These are the NYDJ Marilyn stretch jeans that I picked up during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale a few months ago. I like this more relaxed fit for a change. They look really good with a bit of a heel. This is the Sea Shore color, and I did size down in these; I’m wearing the 4.

The boots I’m wearing are Marc Fisher. He does a really good pair of fashion boots, but his prices are getting higher every year. I recommend waiting for a sale.

This cognac color is a classic, especially for fall, but it took a back seat to taupe and white over the past few seasons. I’m glad to see it gaining popularity again this season.

And I carried a bag that coordinates with the boots. I don’t always match my shoes and bag, but in this case, I like the combination and the way these two pieces contrast against the lighter colors in the outfit.

I’m also wearing a Victoria Emerson animal print wrap bracelet that brings in a little bit more of these warm brown tones.

The gold huggies and double layer necklace are also from Victoria Emerson. (Use code 20jolynne for 20% off the necklace, or any of the Victoria Emerson gold collection.)

I like how these delicate pieces add some interest and bling to the look but aren’t overpowering. Bold jewelry can be fun sometimes, but these more delicate styles are a better fit for my personal style.

Army green utility pants are another fun way to incorporate this hue into your fall wardrobe. I wore these with a cream top and sandals for a late summer look, but they will also look great with mules, ankle boots, and fashion sneakers this fall.

See my post on 5 ways to wear olive utility pants for more ideas like this, and remember to use code SEPTEMBER for 15% off at Evereve.

While army green utility jackets and pants are classic fall wardrobe pieces, this season we’re seeing army green across all clothing and accessory categories. For example, I love how this convertible leather backpack in the army green complements a neutral outfit.

This army green bag also looks great paired with shades of rust. Basically, just treat army green like another neutral in your closet.

Green shoes and boots are another way to incorporate this color trend into your fall looks. I just ordered these platform loafers in the Alpine Green to try, and these boots in the Greek Olive are fun too.

  1. Olive green is my favorite fall color! Loved how you paired it with rust, and I also love it with black and navy! I also love small florals with dark backgrounds and I have many that have olive green in the print! So many options. Glad Paul is starting to get out and about. He must feel so much better when he’s out enjoying the band, or having lunch. He’ll be back to “normal” before you know it!!

  2. Love olive green as a fall color too! Missed the post about the olive jacket last week; thanks for the link to look back. Love all the looks! That is great that Paul is able to get out and about and enjoy Becca’s marching band, albeit slowly and gently. It helps with his recovery to get out of the house and feel “normal”. Thanks for letting us know how he is doing.

  3. Love olive green especially this time of year and love how you and Cyndi have both styled different shades!
So nice that Paul is getting up and around so soon! Hopefully he’ll be reaping the rewards of his surgery soon!

  4. I’m an olive green fan as well! And I’m so happy that the rust color is in style this year. I tend to scoop up my favorite colors– rust and dark green– whenever they’re available because years sometimes pass before those colors are “in” again. I purchased the Marc Fisher Yale booties in black and grey snakeskin 2 years ago– maybe 3– after seeing them here. I have worn them so much that this is probably their final year as they are starting to look worn. I spotted the black and dark brown ones a few days ago and found them on Zappos. They are expensive, but my old ones are probably the most worn booties in my closet so I bought the brown ones knowing my cost-per-wear will be low. To anyone looking for Marc Fisher boots, Nordstromrack has quite a few.

  5. Good news on Paul getting out some. I’m sure it helped his spirits.
I love your look. I am waiting now for an order on the sage color, longer jacket you put in your olive jacket post. I love how its not the true olive that doesn’t look well against my face, and I think the lighter more sage tone will be fine. Its similar to the color of the jacket in this post. Cute jacket and the style fits your style great. I like the shorter ones with the wider leg jeans and the longer ones with more narrow leg jeans…..dare I say skinnies. LOL I know once the colder temps come out, more people will drag out their skinnies again. My skinnies aren’t all that skinny anyway. I think only one is. They are great for tucking in boots when cold. Have a great week.

  6. Great news on Paul’s recovery! I know being out and about some has mentally done him so much good. While I can’t wear army green close to my face without another color, I do have pants in army green. I would have never thought of it being a neutral. I like the outfits that you created. As far as the main outfit you and Cyndi shared today, I have to say, Great Minds Think Alike!
