Fall Florals + Black Jeans

Ahhh, yes… back in my comfort zone with skinny jeans!

I will keep experimenting with new styles, but there’s nothing like the tried and true. For me, that’s skinny jeans, but I’m keeping them fresh with fall florals — a hot trend this season.

Fall florals are huge this year, and I think this floral blouse is so pretty. I love the modest v-neck and the elbow-length sleeves. It has a loose fit, so I did a front-tuck to give it some shape through the waist. For size reference, I have the small.

I have several pairs of black skinny jeans, but these Frame skinnies are the most forgiving. Lately I’ve been hanging onto a few extra pounds, and these jeans have a nice amount of stretch so they don’t bind or crease. They also never bag out, but they do tend to slide down as I wear them. I’ve learned to overlook that, though, because they fit so well. For size reference, I’m wearing the 29.

For a more budget-friendly option, I was impressed by the fit of the LOFT modern skinnies, but they do stretch out out as you wear them, so size down.

These are my favorite sunglasses, the Maui Jim Honey Girl style in Dove Grey with Neutral Grey Lenses. I’m a Maui Jim brand ambassador, and with that position I’ve had the opportunity to try a lot of their styles, but these are my favorites. They’re so comfortable, and I love the shape, plus I think the pattern and variation of colors in the frames is so pretty and interesting — they almost have a mosaic look about them.

I’m also wearing one of my longtime favorite necklaces — this Gorjana 3-disc necklace. I like how it fills the neckline without taking center stage. Being larger up top, I tend to stay away from statement necklaces, but I also get tired of a single pendant, so this piece is the perfect solution.

My earrings are also Gorjana, but they sold out during the Nordstrom Summer Sale last weekend. Here is a similar style.

Okay, so these shoes… *swoon* These mules were another #NSale purchase, and they were definitely a splurge, but fortunately I was able to get them at 40% off. I love how they update my basic looks, and they also stay on my feet really well when I walk, which not all mules do.

A good budget-friendly option is the BP. open toe mule in the black suede, and I also like these Halogen slides for a lower heel. I can’t speak to the comfort level on those, but both have been really popular on style blogs this summer.

This is the type of outfit I’d wear to church or out to lunch with friends on warmer fall days this fall, and I can add a cardigan or moto jacket when it starts to cool down.

  1. This is a very pretty transition outfit!  And you look so nice in it!  I know you are super excited to be with your mom, grandfather, etc., this weekend.  I know that Paul and the girls will miss you, which is a very good thing.   I will definitely be checking your Instastories.  Safe travels!

  2. it’s nice to be back in the comfort zone i bet. Love the blouse… it’s been staying hot so something like that would be perfect. Our weather trend on the news shows temps going up in September every  year so they’re saying that our summer is getting longer. Hope you have a great few days away with family… my husband and  I were to Maine two weekends ago… one of my favorite places:) safe travels

  3. I can see that top with pants from yesterday. What do you think? You look great in this outfit. Love shoes. Have a great trip. Relax & take a breath. I’ve never been to Maine. Would love to go.

  4. I love this outfit on you!  Perfect for transistion to Fall clothes on warm days. Those glasses look great too.  Have a nice weekend.

  5. Back in your comfort zone and it shows. You look great in this outfit and I think a part of it is that this is your style. Your comfortable and confident knowing it looks wonderful on you.  Everything fits perfect. Enjoy your time away. I’ll be following your Instagram stories.

  6. GM! You nailed it with this outfit. It looks fantastic from head to toe. I love the top but unfortunately won’t pay $70 for a short sleeve top, as there are too many cute choices out for fall tops.

  7. I love this outfit! I’m already thinking about how to recreate it with pieces from my closet. I have so many floral tops that could work, but I still want the one you linked to. LOL! This is my favorite look you’ve done this week. I love the necklace too.

  8. You look great today: this top, skinny pants, the jewelry, shoes, your hair, everything is spot-on! A top like this might be better for a work outfit (with different pants) than the one you styled yesterday although it is a bit pricey for my work clothes budget…ah, well, here’s sales to hope & wish of!

  9. Jo-Lynne
You look extra cute! Love all parts of this outfit and it could easily go way into fall for me in GA.
I thought you looked fine yesterday but the pieces were not as flattering as you said. When I was working I always bought ankle length pants at Talbots or Loft Outlet. Enjoy your trip. Maine is on my list for next summer. Off to link to this blouse.

    1. Good point Julie. Cropping your dress pants updates them and shows a bit of ankle ( narrowest part of leg) so is slimming. I follow a women on Instagram and she pointed out how that small change can up an outfit.
Love this outfit on you, JoLynne! I must look into buying some flowered tops. I’ve always steered way from them (too old lady style) but now they are styling.

      1. I know that is the conventional wisdom, but I hate ankle length dress pants (or chino pants, for that matter) on me. I can never find a pair that is cut slim enough and I always feel frumpy in them. I prefer dress pants that are more bootcut/trouser (not wide legged trousers, though) and almost touch the floor. And I hear ya on the florals — definitely have been considered frumpy for a while, but I like these smaller prints a lot.

  10. Now this is YOU!!!  I am like you, nothing like skinny jeans.  I hope they stay in style.  Love the mules, but too high a heel for me. If I buy higher heels, they sit in my closet, as I tend to use lower heel for most days.  I have a lower heel, navy blue, suede mule from last year at GAP and really like them.  Have a great trip visiting your mom. Its so fun to get away ALONE sometimes.  Is your husband staying home to hold down the fort?

  11. Great outfit that I will soon copy.  Also really liked yesterday’s work outfit–just the right amount of “take me serious” look.  Question:  if I purchase the Maui Jim’s through your link from Zappo’s, how do I get them sized for my head?  They sure are good looking.  My husband is flying to Maine today–Portland to Portland.  Have a great trip!

  12. You look fabulous. I read your post everyday but don’t comment very often. Keep up the great work your doing. Thank you for that. God Bless.

  13. You look great! I’m loving all these florals, and this one has such a rich look. Also swooning over the shoes! Hope you have a great trip.
