Yesterday was pretty quiet around here. Could you hear the pin drop?
THAT is because I got up at the butt-crack-o-dawn to train it to New York City for two fabulous events at New York Fashion Week.
Did you know that Starbucks opens at FIVE in the A.M.?
Yes, FIVE.
I predictably left my carefully prepared caraffe of homemade coffee on the kitchen counter and realized it when I was about 10 minutes down the road, so I swung into a Starbucks on the remote chance it might be open at 5:30 in the morning. It was!! Which makes me love them even more than I already did.
Armed with sufficient fuel for the long day ahead (or at least until we could find a Starbucks in NYC), Whitney and I boarded the train, only to discover that we weren’t the only crazy people up before the sun. The train was PACKED. We had to split up until a bunch of people debarked in Philly and we were able to find seats together.
Melissa met us along the way, and we rode in, chatting like magpies and alternately checking our iPhones and iPads for tweets and Facebook updates about the day ahead.
Our first stop was Starbucks. (Of course!!) There we met with Ingrid and Chrissy from the maternity clothing line Ingrid and Isabel (creator of the BellaBand). Several of their fashions were featured in The Strut Fashion Show that we attended later in the day, and we got a sneak peek at their new spring line which will be available in several weeks. I love the simplicity and elegance of their styles. Where was this stuff when I was preggers?
Next, we walked over to the Caravan Design Studio for ULTA’s Fashion Week Blogger Beauty Day, hosted by Dawn and Elizabeth — the lovely and creative ladies behind The Partybluprints Blog.
We visited with many of our favorite blogging buddies and had the opportunity to get our makeup done by professional makeup artists.

After a 4:30 AM wakeup call and 2+ hours on a crowded train, this was just the pick-me-up we needed. Here we are, all made up and ready for The Strut!
But first. Lunch.
We enjoyed a delicious and relaxing lunch at Atlantic Grill before heading back out into the drizzle for a quick hop across the street to Lincoln Center for the show.
Strut – The Fashionable Mom Show was nothing short of fabulous. I have never been to a New York Fashion Week event before, so I was amazed by how quickly it all happened. I was there as a member of the Clorox Twitter-az
Did I mention that the event was hosted by Iman? I was sitting across the aisle from her for the entire show!
I got to hug Jane and Sharon and Jyl and Jill, and I really hope I’m not forgetting anyone.
Many of my good friends modeled in the show. They wore accesible, affordable brands that are currently available in stores such as TJMaxx, Marshalls, Gap, A Pea in the Pod, Coldwater Creek, Bloomingdales and Macy’s.
Moms of all shapes and sizes strutted their stuff on this New York Fashion Week runway, and it was exhilarating.
I snapped a few pictures and took a couple of short video clips with my iPhone, but the lighting was not cooperating, so I’ll link you to the official video instead. Unfortunately this video was produced after the event, and they dubbed some generic music over top of the fun, current tunes that were blaring across the loud speakers at the show, but you can see everyone and what they wore.
There’s quite a bit of preamble, which is fun too. But if you want to skip right to the nitty gritty, you can start the video at the 5:00 mark. It’s 20 minutes total — which seems long while you are watching the video, but I’m here to tell ya, time FLEW yesterday. I couldn’t believe it was over so quickly.
Now it’s back to life and back to reality. NYC is fun, but I’m always glad to be home in my comfortable home in the ‘burbs.
Did you blog about fashion this week?

I’m also linking up with Monday Mingle at Mom Trends.
That looks like so much fun!
It really was. I’m kinda sad it’s all over.
It was so great to see and chat with WONDERFULyou yesterday.
Oh you too, my dear! Twice in one month. SO FUN! 🙂
So fabulous, wish I could’ve joined you. I totally missed the live stream too, so I’m glad they have video of the whole thing. I watch NYFW runway shows live online a lot so I know how fast and how much of a total whirlwind they are… the Michael Kors show on Wed was SO GREAT!
I was shocked when it was over, but watching it back, I realized that it is longer than it seemed at the time. SO, so fun.
Looked like an AMAZING day!!! I was invited to two shows on Vday..but couldn’t break the Vday dinner plans with the hubs…sigh. Oh well..there is always next time:)
Would have loved to attend that STRUT show..what a revolutionary idea…things we would ACTUALLY wear!!! lol I love a great runway show but it is true that very little is wearable the way it is put down the catwalk.
Happy weekend.

It was great fun! Sorry you missed the Vday shows. What a good wife you are. 🙂
Your day looked like it was fun from start to finish (well, maybe not including the 4:30 am alarm). What a blast. And, now you have a long weekend to recuperate. Thanks for sharing!!
I wish. LOL. Tomorrow I have a PSMM Workshop so I’m still busy, but at least it doesn’t require travel. I will rest up on Sunday. 🙂
I saw this on my Twitter feed last night! What a great idea, I love the concept that fashion is for everyone– of every age. I also love Iman, she does not seem to age!
She was positively breathtaking. AND TALL. lol.
Wow, great recap! What a day! ! It was SO great to see you there!
It WAS a crazy day. But so fun. And I loved seeing you too!
What a fun event! I really cannot imagine going to something like that. How Fantastic!
What an amazing day and opportunity!
I am sure when you started blogging you never thought it would lead to this!!!
AND you look far too good for someone awake at 4.30 am 🙂
Why thank you ma’am. It helps that I usually get up at 5:30. 🙂
And I never in a MILLION YEARS expected blogging to lead to ANY of this. It is crazy. And I love it!
Sounds fabulous! What a fun adventure and I’m so jealous you got to attend the fashion show. How incredible!!
Thanks for a great post (as always!)
Wait – you and Melissa didn’t model down the runway?? Ugh they missed two of the hottest mamas around!! 🙂
Agreed!
I’m totally checking out that video – the only one I had found (from the facebook app) only had the last bit of the show, and I was feeling disappointed about it. So glad to see the FULL video!
All the moms are AWESOME. I’m so glad this all happened!
SO fun to see moms strutting their stuff in classy attire! You should have been up there too!
Do you know if the moms got to select the outfits themselves? #curious
Yes, I believe they did. And no, I was perfectly happy to be in the twitter-azzi pit. 😉
Loved seeing you at the event!
That was such a fun show to watch!
So bummed I only got to see you for a minute!
