Good morning and welcome back to 22 Days of Spring Fashion! I’ve got a casual outfit today that’s a great alternative to shorts. This dress is just $15, and it’s so easy to wear — casual and comfortable, but a little more dressed up than shorts or jeans.
I actually ordered this dress in both the solid navy and the navy and white stripe, and I like them both equally.
This stripe one would also make a cute swimsuit coverup, which is nice if you’re traveling and want to pack something that can double as a dress and a swim coverup.
These dresses always seem to call for a good fashion sneaker, and my go-to is the Converse Shoreline.
I know I’ve talked about these a ton, but they’re the only sneakers I wear consistently. I’ve bought others and usually end up passing them down to my daughters. I love a shoe that I can slip on and go, and these have a great casual-cool vibe.
I get asked a lot about what socks to wear with Converse Shoreline, and these no-show socks are the ones I like best.
I added my red crossbody for a fun pop of color. This bag is old, and I picked it up on a major sale so I’ll link up some other options. I think a red bag is a great addition to any wardrobe. It pops any neutral outfit and makes a fun statement.
This outfit is a nice alternative to shorts for those who don’t care for those, and it’s also a great way to add some variety to a casual wardrobe.

I love this cute, casual dress and ordered it the other day…on the spot…when you.gave us a heads up on it the other day. Can’t wait for it to get here. Thanks for featuring it. I’m a casual, retired gal and this will be a perfect addition to my wardrobe.
So glad you like it!
I am going to gamble & add this dress to my wishlist or cart at ON. Hopefully, after Lent, it will still be available, even if the price goes up. I don’t wear shorts out and about to often, so this would be a great option. I’m sure that I am not the only one that cannot wear Converse, so I am wondering what other style sneakers would look right. I have to have arch support and a cushioned insole due to paper thin feet. Hopefully, I will be able to join in on the Facebook Live today! Be blessed!
Hey Ginger, I know we chatted during my Facebook Live today 🙂 but in case anyone is reading along, you can try the Adidas Gazelle or some of the Ecco brand. To look modern, I recommend grey or blush or a combination like these – https://rstyle.me/n/cy8huegthw or these – https://rstyle.me/n/cy8hzmgthw. I wonder if these would have enough support for you: https://rstyle.me/n/cy8hyvgthw. They’d be cute with dresses or cropped pants.
Hi Ginger, I to find converse have a thin sole and no arch support. I ended up with Superga brand shoes they seem to have a little more support and just as cute.
I forgot about those! Good to know they have some support, I didn’t think they had much, but they’re definitely cute.
Thank you for the suggestions, Kim and Jo-Lynne!
Love the dress! I have something similar from Talbots that I bought last year. The pop of orange is nice, too.
Oooh, I bet that’s cute. I meant to get over there today when I was at the mall but I didn’t make it that far. I hate that it’s over in the Court.
Love the pop of orange with your purse
Thanks, Stella! This bag comes in handy a lot. 🙂
I read that you would be looking for white jeans today. Please let me know if you see any skinny, cropped, non distressed high waist. I also like the higher waist and the cropped gives me a more casual feel. Thanks!
I found none! I don’t think they’re in stores yet. I remember this happening last March. I ordered a couple pairs online tho — https://rstyle.me/n/cy8hf5gthw and https://rstyle.me/n/cy8hmkgthw. I’ll return the ones I don’t like as much.
Someone also mentioned these, and they’re not as pricey: https://rstyle.me/n/cy8hcygthw
That dress is really cute! I’m wondering how thick the material is?? Living in the South, I find that some dresses are too thick to be able to really wear in the summer. The flip side of this is that the thin ones usually show every lump & bump! Thanks!
It’s on the thicker side – maybe heavy for summer, but yeah, the thinner ones tend to cling and I like the way this fits.
Good morning! This is a cute, simple outfit. I love casual dresses. How is the sizing?
I think it runs a little bit small. I went with the medium, after trying both it and the small. You can see the small in this post: https://jolynneshane.com/trunk-club-unboxing-try-on-sesh.html
I’m always hesitant to wears stripes as I’ve always heard it adds visual weight or makes you look wider – however it doesn’t appear to be the case with you in this cute dress. My middle & hips are larger so I hate to emphasize that. The blue one of course would be a great alternative of course but I love the stripe one with the converse shoes. Any pointers on how to look for things with stripes as far as the size of the stripe itself???
Hey Daisy, I’m not sure why some stripes work and others don’t. It probably has something to do with the size and spacing, but I just try them on and see what I think. The navy one is also nice and would be great with the Converse.
Cute outfit! What size do you typically wear in Old Navy (sorry if you said and I missed it)? I am going somewhere for spring break I am told will be hot, so I’ve been pondering getting a dress. The one you are wearing probably wouldn’t work, but I noticed several others on the site that look cute, and the stuff you post from ON always looks nice. I am not usually a dress person, but I figure it’s worth a try, especially at those prices. I don’t want it too short though, so I’m tempted to size up, but don’t want it too sloppy either. Thoughts? I’m a little taller than you and smaller on top. Also, an unrelated question – do you size up when you buy white jeans, or white jean shorts? Do you ever wear True Religion (is that even the right name for the brand)? If so, thoughts? Thanks in advance (and thanks many times over for recommending the converse shorelines – best sneaker EVER).
You didn’t miss it. I totally forgot to include it. This is a medium. I tried the small as well, but I’m more comfortable in the medium. You can see the small in this post: https://jolynneshane.com/trunk-club-unboxing-try-on-sesh.html
A lot of average height women order tall in Old Navy dresses because they do run short, so you may want to try that. They do a good job for the price point, I think.
I do size up for white jeans, and for almost all shorts as a general rule. I don’t know why but I always seem to need a size bigger in white jeans. And shorts, I like them to fit a little looser.
No, I haven’t tried TR jeans – I’ve never cared for the pocket detail most of them have. But they seem like they’d fit well. So glad you love your Converse!
Like you said, I think this dress would be alternative to shorts, until I get some color on my legs lol
So it’s in my cart because it also comes in petite and because last spring you styled a short sleeve grey V-neck dress from Old Navy and I wore it like crazy 😜
Good luck shopping today and I’m sharing a link for some white jeans that Stylish Petite posted yesterday. She raved about them and looks like they come in regular sizes too.

Good to know! I’ve never tried Topshop jeans but I follow a blogger who wears them a lot and loves them.
You look great in the dress! We are the same height, so what size did you order? Have you washed it yet?
I meant to include that! This is a medium. I tried the small as well, but I’m more comfortable in the medium. You can see the small in this post: https://jolynneshane.com/trunk-club-unboxing-try-on-sesh.html
I haven’t washed it, and I will probably hang it to dry.
This outfit s so cute. I’m still debating buying it as I have “fat” knees 🤭 and always hesitate wearing shorter dresses. And shorts are out of the question. Lol.
Regarding the white jeans. Macy’s has two brands of white jeans that I really like that have higher rises. They are Style & Co and Charter Club and are very reasonably priced. Nothing wrong with spending more mind you – just sometimes I don’t want to pay a higher price if I can get it cheaper elsewhere and like the fit. 😊 Of course I prefer the straight leg ones but they do come in slim leg and skinny leg. You might take a look at them.
That’s good to know. No reason to pay more if you can find good ones for less! I haven’t tried those brands in a long time.
What size did you get in this dress? I have read a few reviews, and they’re all over the place – runs big/runs small. Did you find it is more fitted in the hips?
I meant to include that! This is a medium. I tried the small as well, but I’m more comfortable in the medium. You can see the small in this post: https://jolynneshane.com/trunk-club-unboxing-try-on-sesh.html
Oh, and yes, it was snug thru the hips in the small. 🙂
Such a cute look on you!
I bought both colors of this dress and I love them! I’m a little self conscious about hem length (at my age) so I ordered a Tall Small even though I’m only 5’3 1/2. Your taste is so similar to mine and you’ve saved me HOURS of hunting for items to add to my wardrobe:).
A lot of people say they do that – order the tall even though they’re regular height. Makes sense!
Just got this dress in the mail and interestingly, it’s long sleeved. No question about it. I got tall and regular and tall might be too long for my 5’7″ height. Will see how rhe regular goes. How did it wash/dry? Any shrinkage?
That is odd! It is totally 3/4 sleeve on me. I haven’t washed it yet, so I can’t say for sure, but I expect it to shrink some. I will probably hang it to dry to keep the length. Ironing also helps if it shrinks a little bit. It’s a pain, but that’s my trick when things like this shrink. 🙂
I love to wear casual skirts and dresses in the summer. I live in Texas and they just seem to be cooler. It would be great if you showed us some more casual skirts or dresses. BTW, I bought that Old Navy dress. It looks so cute on you!
So glad you like it! I will see what I can find.
Hi Jo-Lynne, loving your spring fashion and getting heaps of ideas on what to where when I come to the states in May for six weeks traveling across the north from west to east.
This dress is great I already have a similar dress in my wardrobe and wasn’ t thinking of bringing it but now it might come with me. I usually only pack denim jeans, 3/4 and shorts and alternate between them.
