Loft Try-On Haul: New for Fall 2024

Happy Friday, friends! I’ve got a new try-on haul for you today with fresh fall styles from LOFT. They’re running a sale on tops today, plus almost everything else is 30% off!

As usual, I will provide measurements and fabric content on each item when I can find it, and I’ll share whether I plan to keep it or not. Just remember, even when I decide not to keep something, it doesn’t mean it isn’t worth checking out. I just may not need it, or it may not work for my body type or lifestyle.

Fresh Fall Styles from Loft

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 or 30 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

Ponte Mini Shift Pocket Dress

30% off at LOFT (8) // leopard pumps (8.5) // similar loafers

DETAILS: From the shimmery buttons to the cute pockets, this super soft ponte knit shift dress has the perfect mix of polished meets pretty.

  • 25″ long
  • 92% Cotton; 8% Spandex
  • Machine Washable

I was drawn to this shift dress for the French girl vibes, but it’s quite short, and I’ve never been much of a fan of the straight cuts. I prefer some shape through the waist. I tried styling it two ways, above with the leopard slingbacks, and below with classic loafers, and I think the loafers work.

VERDICT: I didn’t love this enough to keep it, but it’s really cute, and I think some of you will like it.

Corduroy Mini Pocket Shirtdress

30% off at LOFT (8) // Blondo Emmalyn Waterproof Boots (8.5)

DETAILS: In the softest corduroy with flattering seamed detail, this fluid woven shirtdress beautifully buttons up your look – with handy pockets as an added bonus.

  • 33 7/8″ long
  • 100% Cotton
  • Machine Washable

Western-inspired corduroy shirt dresses like this one are everywhere this season, and this one is nice an soft and very comfortable. I like the seaming details and how the buttons/snaps are a gunmetal color.

I struggled with styling this, though. I’m not crazy about it with the ankle boots above, so I also tried it with these chocolate brown Dolce Vita knee boots. I dunno . . . is it too much Western? And are the contrasting brown shades working, or no?

LOFT doesn’t show any styling ideas, but Gap Factory has a similar dress, and they styled it with black Mary Jane flats, which creates a subtle juxtaposition between the ladylike flats and Western details of the dress. I don’t have any of those, so I tried it with silver ballet flats, but this doesn’t quite do it for me either.

I also tried it with leopard slingback flats, which I don’t love either, but they may be my favorite combination of the ones I tried.

VERDICT: I don’t love it for me, but it’s flattering and comfortable, so definitely worth a try if it’s your vibe.

Sutton Flare Pants in Puppytooth Doubleface in Black/Brown

30% off at LOFT (8) // Mock Neck Top (S) // Veronica Beard boots (8.5)

DETAILS: THE FEEL GOOD FIT: extra stretch makes these sculpting, smoothing, and so comfy, too.

  • 11 1/4″ Rise; 31″ Inseam
  • 66% Polyester; 30% Rayon; 4% Spandex
  • Machine Washable

I had these pants in a lighter color last spring, and while I never ended up wearing them, I loved the fit. They’re super flattering, and also quite comfortable due to the spandex.

This black/brown multi (it’s a very subtle check print) is perfect for fall, so I decided to order them and style them up for you.

VERDICT: I would keep these if I thought I’d wear them; I just rarely have the need for pants, and I’m not sure what to wear them with. Keep reading . . .

Perfect Ribbed Mock Neck Top in Iced Espresso

$25 at LOFT (S) // Sutton Flare Pants (8) // Veronica Beard boots (8.5)

DETAILS: Our best-selling, super-soft cotton blend rib that’s seriously flattering. Mock neck. Elbow sleeves.

  • 25″ long
  • 92% Cotton; 8% Spandex
  • Machine Washable

This is the top they paired with these pants, and it made sense, so I ordered it. It’s a very snug, body-con fit, but it’s soft and comfortable, and it works with these pants, although I feel like it could use a topper.

My issue is, it’s a little too long to leave untucked, but I don’t look great with tucked-in tops. Whether it’s tucked or not, you can see a bit of a muffin top. Maybe I need to size up to a 10 in the pants; they are a bit snug.

I tried adding a belt, which definitely helps finish the look, but I feel like the waistband hits my body at an awkward spot. While the 11 1/4″ rise is pretty high by most standards, and it’s comfortable to me, my actual waist is about 2 inches higher than that, so the waistband of the pants cuts across that fluffy belly area in a not so flattering way.

STYLE TIP: If I put a cardigan or jacket on top, to break up that harsh horizontal line, it would probably look nice, but I wouldn’t wear it just like this. I wish I’d thought to try that, I’ll try it today and update you. I want to try it with this jacket.)

VERDICT: Holding onto these pieces for now.

Satin Cowl Neck Shell in Iced Espresso

$35 at LOFT (S) // Sutton Flare Pants (8) // Schutz Dethalia Sandal (8)

DETAILS: A draped cowl neck shapes this modern-minimalist fluid woven shell with a hint of glam for day and night.

  • 22″ Long
  • 100% Polyester
  • Machine Washable

I also ordered this satin shell to try with these pants, and I like it, I think. It definitely looks best with a front tuck (on the left) as opposed to the full tuck (on the right). This way, the belt doesn’t create such a harsh horizontal line across my midsection.

VERDICT: I may keep this outfit; I just don’t know where I’d wear it… I guess I could wear it to church, or out for dinner with Paul somewhere nice.

Schutz Dethalia Sandal in Croco

at Evereve (8) // Sutton Flare Pants (8)

DETAILS: The Dethalia Sandal by Schutz will instantly amp up any look, crafted in croc-embossed leather with a chic square toe and short stiletto heel.

These are the shoes I’m wearing above, and they’re not from LOFT, but I’m including them here since I’m wearing them.

I love the croc embossed leather and chunky 2 1/2″ stiletto heel. You can see that better in the photo on the website. They’re comfortable and easy to walk in, and they look really nice with dresses, too.

VERDICT: Keeping! Love these.

Collared Pocket Sweater Jacket

30% off at LOFT (S) // MOTHER Weekender (29) // Veronica Beard boots (8 1/2)

DETAILS: Tailored polish meets cozy cool in the form of this effortlessly chic soft knit sweater jacket.

  • 21 1/2″ Long
  • 78% Cotton 19% Nylon 3% Spandex
  • Machine Washable

I’ve struggled with the whole lady jacket trend, as it usually feels too stuffy and/or preppy for my personal style, but I like the look on others. I feel like it works better for me in a sweater version, because it’s not quite as boxy as the tweed styles. (I did end up ordering that J.Crew Cashmere cable-knit cardigan sweater from last week’s Try-On Haul in the medium, and I can’t wait to get it.)

All that to say, this one is a sweater, and it’s a really nice length. I love that it also has a collar that makes it look a little bit more like a jacket, which is totally my vibe.

I really like the fit, the length is perfect, and the contrasting buttons are a nice touch. It’s not as fussy as most lady jackets, but it plays into that trend. It’s sort of a cross between a short cardigan and a lady jacket.

VERDICT: I want to play around with more styling options, but I think this one’s a keeper!

And that’s a wrap! I know this is shorter than most of my Try-On Hauls, but I ran out of time. I’ll be back tomorrow with more fall try-ons from Evereve and Gap Factory!

  1. Thanks! I love the sweater jacket! I’ve been wondering about the fit of those Sutton pants. They remind me of Old Navy Pixie pants, which I’ve had in the past. I always felt like I needed to cover my backside with a long sweater or tunic top because they fit more like leggings than pants! Thanks for your review!

  2. I purchased the pants in my normal size. I wear this type of pants in cold weather for church or somewhere I want to look a little nicer. The pants themselves are such a good, thick quality, but the waistband was snug. I guess because I am high waisted also, and it didn’t come up to my natural waist where I measure smaller. You have helped me make the decision to return them for that reason. I have a similar black dress from Loft from a few years back which isn’t quite so short. Other than that, I wasn’t impressed with the Loft purchases.

    1. If the rise was high enough for the waistband to meet my actual waist, they would be right under my boobs, lol. So I don’t really want that. But I think I need to either size up or wear a jacket on top.

      1. Those pants do run small. I have the black. I don’t know if I will fit into mine anymore. My weight is the same as last year but I think things shifted this year to my stomach area. It’s not menopause anymore. Just good ole aging. I’ve noticed my body changing at 50 and now at 70. Enjoy your 50’s and 60’s. 😊

  3. Ordered the collar sweater jacket in Whisper White. My size sold out in the Burgundy but will stalk it! Lol
Great post & enjoy your weekend!

  4. For Mona, They have very similar collared jacket in a berry, green and black at JCrew Factory. I think the white will be difficult to style as far as under layer.

  5. That sweater jacket is really cute, largely sold out though unfortunately. I added myself to the waitlist for my size.

  6. Your face says it all LOL! Now I know why I didn’t like the lady jacket/sweater I bought last year, it’s just too fussy for me. I felt like I was trying to be Emily Gilmore from the Gilmore Girls.

  7. I love these fall style outfits. They show they fit the season. For the boots and ankle booties do you avoid socks for the look?

    1. Yeah, I don’t usually wear socks with my ankle boots unless the pants cover them so they don’t show. It depends, though. If it’s a casual look, and I’m wearing straight ankle jeans that meet the top of the bootie, I might wear socks that show when I move or sit. But I try to make them look intentional.

  8. Your faces crack me up! I can often tell just from the pic how you feel about the outfit. I think the corduroy dress looks really good with the knee high boots. I live in the South and even I would never wear a dress that length in the winter with completely bare legs. If I wanted to wear it with any of the other shoes, I’d probably choose to wear tights/hose. And that explains why I don’t own many such dresses! LOL The pants outfits are really nice but I feel like you won’t end up wearing them. It seems like for date nights you generally choose something a bit edgier and that outfit very much has an “I work in an office” vibe. My husband works as a computer guy at a CPA firm and it totally looks like an outfit I’d see on ladies who work at his office. I’m trying really hard these days to realistically think through occasions/places that I would wear and outfit. And then I try to think if there is another outfit that I know I’ll end up choosing instead. I feel like I’ve learned that from watching your thought process over the years and it’s really helping me to avoid things that end up not getting worn. I think this summer I just have one top that hasn’t gotten worn (and thankfully it was inexpensive from Amazon). This is a big improvement for me!

    1. Totally agree Denise and I love your decision making strategy! So many of the pieces I buy but never wear would be weeded out by the second question. Thanks for sharing!

    2. Yes, you are absolutely right. That is my hesitation. It’s a great outfit, and I like it, but it doesn’t fit my lifestyle. If I needed work wear for a corporate setting, I would totally wear it, but for my daily activities, I prefer outfits with more juxtaposition.

  9. As pretty as the corduroy dress is, I think that it would be challenging to find the right footwear to wear with it, unless you go all out western by wearing short cowgirl boots. Your text regarding the dress pants makes me think that you are trying to justify keeping them. If you don’t love them, spend the money on something that you do love. Enjoy the pretty weather. Like so many states, we’re feeling Tropical Depression Francine and will be through Monday, at least. But we desperately need the rain, so we shouldn’t complain. This weather does make it easier for me to get my inside chores done.

  10. What color are the buttons on the first dress-silver or gold? It may work for me in the regular size and not be so short. I’m petite but I’m wondering if that may be too short.

I like the lady jacket/sweater on you. Is that a blue red or brownish red? Thanks JoLynne

  11. I was so thrilled to see a Loft try-on because I miss them. Will you be showing more of their clothes in future? I really need to spiff up my fall wardrobe and buy new sweaters because I got rid of a lot last year. I wanted that sweater jacket but they didn’t have XS available in that gorgeous merlot color.

    1. I do like their styles, but I feel like the quality isn’t what it used to be. I know a lot of ladies here like them, so I’ll try to be better about keeping Loft in rotation. 🙂

  12. I really like the burgundy sweater jacket. I also think that the brown dress pants are flattering on you with the belt and tucked in top.

  13. I like the maroon sweater. I wish it came in a petite size. I haven’t seen much I like at Loft this season. I normally find more things in the spring summer season. I wouldn’t keep anything you don’t think you will wear. Thanks for showing us some pants even though you’re a jeans girl.

  14. Thank you for the post! My husband and I are finishing up our annual beach vacation on HHI, SC. We drive home tomorrow.

  15. The minute I saw someone post that cardigan about a month ago (maybe you?), I ordered it because it is MY color. It was just too boxy for me no matter what I did with it. I’m long waisted with my waistline slowly disappearing (thanks meno). It looks good on you though!
