Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Try-On Haul

Happy Friday, friends! I’ve got more #NSale try-ons for you today. If you missed it, I posted my Fitting Room Try-On Haul on Wednesday, and you can also see a bunch of my #NSale Looks here, if you just want a quick overview of what I found so far.

I checked the online inventory this morning, and while some of the popular items are selling out, a lot of my personal favorites are still well stocked. And remember, there are always lots of returns. This sale goes through August 6th, so if you want something that isn’t available right now, keep your eye on it. It very likely will come back in stock before the prices go back up.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Try-On Haul

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops and dresses, a 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

Okay, here we go! These are listed in the order I tried them on (instead of the in-stock items first) because it makes the story arc – if there is such a thing in a Try-On Haul (haha!) – make more sense!

I had high hopes for this sweater, and it does have a pretty design, but it’s very thin. I forgot I had my blue sports bra on, and as you can see, the sweater is somewhat sheer. That said, it will be fine with a skin-colored bra.

Nordstrom Funnel Neck Cashmere Sweater (S) // PAIGE Leenah High Waist Ankle Wide Leg Jeans (29) // Aquatalia Luissa Boots (8)

It’s also a bit snug around the waistband, so it doesn’t really drape at all when you front tuck it, but it doesn’t look right untucked either. Sizing up wouldn’t be the answer, as it fits well in the shoulders and arms, so I’m thinking this one is just a dud… at least for me.

All that to say, this sweater is not my favorite. The jeans, however, I love! Unfortunately, they’re sold out at the moment.

These are the PAIGE Leenah High Waist Ankle Wide Leg Jeans. I love the faded mid indigo wash, distressed details, and trouser-inspired hems; and the modern ankle length is easy to wear with different heel heights.

These run true to size, or maybe a bit big, as the 29 is very comfortable on me and I sized up to the 30 in a few of the MOTHER jeans.

PAIGE Leenah High Waist Ankle Wide Leg Jeans (29) // Aquatalia Luissa Boots (8)

I reviewed these booties in my Fitting Room Try-On, but in case you missed it, these are one of my favorite #NSale purchases so far this year.

You pay a premium for Aquatalia, but they’re excellent quality. Made in Italy, always comfortable, modern classic styles, and their suede is water resistant, so I can wear them in our mucky winter weather here in Philly.

Aquatalia Luissa Boots (8) // PAIGE Leenah High Waist Ankle Wide Leg Jeans (29) // Vince Crewneck Cable Sweater (S)

These have a walkable 2 3/4″ heel, and the slender 5 3/4″ shaft slips easily under different styles of pants and jeans.

I was not expecting much from this sweater; it looked bulky, and I’m never a big fan of a chunky crewneck style, BUT I actually love it! Or maybe I’m just relieved to finally find a sweater in this sale that’s short enough (21 1/2″) to wear with high rise jeans, but I’ll take it!

Vince Crewneck Cable Sweater (S) // PAIGE Leenah High Waist Ankle Wide Leg Jeans (29) // Paul Green Selma Lug Sole Bootie (8)

Also, those of you who can’t wear wool might like this option. It’s 82% cotton, 16% polyamide, 2% elastane; and you can wash it on delicate and lay flat to dry.

Here’s a close-up of these boots again, in case you missed them in the Fitting Room Try-On Haul.

Paul Green Selma Lug Sole Bootie (8)

Paul Green boots are known for their exceptional comfort, and these have the perfect chunky lug sole – sturdy but not too clunky, and the 3″ block heel is very walkable. They’re so comfortable to wear, and they’ll look great with all the bootcut and wide leg jeans this year.

This blouse was one of the first items I ordered with the Nordstrom website was glitching during the Preview and allowing us to place orders.

Vince Silk Blend Woven Shirt (S) // PAIGE Laurel Canyon High Waist Flare Jeans (29) // Marc Fisher Varla Block Heel Pump (8)

I’m not normally a blouse girl, but something about this one was calling my name, and I’m so glad I took the chance because I love it.

It’s a silk/rayon blend, and it has such gorgeous details. I especially like the 23″ length.

I’m calling this my 50s era blouse. I don’t know what it is about this new decade (I just turned 51), but I’m noticing a subtle shift in the styles I’m drawn to.

I still love my ripped jeans and bougie t-shirts, but I’m also integrating some more elevated pieces into my rotation. I think this whole look is sophisticated and oh-so-chic!

The PAIGE Laurel Canyon High Waist Flare Jeans are a new-to-me style, but they’ve been around for a while. They’re just a nice, classic bootcut style (I don’t know why they call them flares), and I especially like the wash on this pair.

They have a 32″ inseam; and they’re 93% cotton, 5% polyester, 2% spandex. The hems have just a touch of distressing, which is a nice detail, so if you buy these and have them shortened, be sure to ask the tailor to retain the original hem. It’s worth the extra cost.

Finally, these Marc Fisher Varla Block Heel Pumps are divine!!! Barb, my Nordstrom stylist, and I were marveling at how much we love the silhouette and the subtle snipped toe. They’re comfortable too.

I wanted to see how this blouse looked under a moto jacket, but I’m afraid it cheapens the look somewhat. I’m just not feeling it. While I don’t usually wear blazers, I feel like that’s what this blouse needs.

Treasure & Bond Leather Biker Jacket (M) // Vince Silk Blend Woven Shirt (S) // PAIGE Laurel Canyon High Waist Flare Jeans (29) // Marc Fisher Varla Block Heel Pumps (8)

Also, this jacket runs verrrrry small. This is the medium, and it barely fits over my arms. I would only be able to wear it over a short-sleeve or sleeveless top.

Speaking of my 50s era, this silk blend cowl neck cap sleeve blouse is another elevated basic that I’m super excited about this year. I bought the Plum Wine at the store on Tuesday, but I had to order this Oat color, and it’s so pretty in person.

Vince Cowl Neck Cap Sleeve Silk Blend Blouse (S) // PAIGE Laurel Canyon High Waist Flare Jeans (29) // Aquatalia Luissa Boots (8)

That said, I don’t think it’s the best color on me. If I were to get this blouse in a second color, I’d probably get the black instead, but I’m going to stick with the Plum Wine for now.

I love it and think I can keep it in my closet for years, but I don’t know that I’ll wear it often enough to warrant two of them at this price point.

I stopped into the mall on the 2nd day of the sale to grab an online pickup order, and as I was walking through, I spotted this pretty textured v-neck sweater.

Madewell Alna V-Neck Sweater (S) // PAIGE Laurel Canyon High Waist Flare Jeans (29) // Aquatalia Luissa Boots (8)

It’s nothing super exciting, but it’s soft and comfortable, and it has a nice, relaxed fit. Plus, there’s no wool content, and it’s very affordable! I can even overlook the dropped shoulder for all of those features.

If you prefer a higher quality sweater, this Vince raglan sleeve sweater was one of my Early Favorites during the Preview period. I love a v-neck sweater with a raglan sleeve, and I think this Tea Berry color is so pretty.

Vince Raglan Sleeve Wool & Cashmere Sweater (S) // MOTHER The Hustler Frayed High Waist Ankle Flare Jeans (30) // Marc Fisher Ulani Pointy Toe Bootie (8)

My only complaint is I wish it was 100% cashmere; I feel like the wool component makes it itchy, and it doesn’t seem to lower the price any, either! The iconic Vince Weekend Cashmere V-Neck is part of the sale, and it’s a better price.

I do, however, prefer the 24″ length of this Raglan Sleeve Wool & Cashmere Sweater to the 25 1/2″ length of the Weekend Cashmere V-Neck. It’s better for leaving untucked, which is how I prefer it.

I’m starting to feel over the front tuck, especially with sweaters. I think it looks more sleek and streamlined left out like this, plus tucking into higher rise jeans doesn’t really work for me.

I’m making a face up there because I’m not sure how I feel about these ankle flare jeans with the boots… They have a 27 1/2″ inseam, and I feel like they look like floods.

I know, I know. The crop flare naysayers have been saying this from the get-go. I still like them with sandals and sneakers, but I’m just not sure about the boots. Even though these are a low contrast color combo, I feel like the length and shape of the jeans shortens the line of the leg.

I feel like they need to be at least an inch longer – not necessarily the floor-grazing length (32″) of the PAIGE Laurel Canyon, but at least 30″ long might be nice.

I tried the same jeans with sneakers and a short sleeve sweater to see if I like them better this way, but I don’t care for the high contrast between the dark jeans and white sneakers.

Madewell Balsam Cap Sleeve Sweater (S) // MOTHER The Hustler Frayed High Waist Ankle Flare Jeans (30) // P448 John Sneaker (39)

I do, however, love these P448s, and they’re still fully stocked! They have a 3/4″ platform, memory foam cushioning, and a removable insole; and I love the sparkle on the tongue and the gunmetal panel in the back.

Okay, back to that Vince Raglan Sleeve Wool & Cashmere Sweater. I also tried it with the MOTHER Frayed High Waist Flare Jeans, and I much prefer this length with this sweater and boot combo.

I pretty much have this exact pair of jeans in my closet, in a slightly different wash, and I love them. They’re technically The Weekender Fray, even though for some reason, Nordstrom doesn’t use the proper style name on the website.

In my opinion, these have the perfect 30 1/2″ inseam and 10 1/2″ front rise, plus they’re super soft and stretchy for ultimate comfort.

Vince Raglan Sleeve Wool & Cashmere Sweater (S) //  MOTHER Frayed High Waist Flare Jeans (30) // Marc Fisher Ulani Pointy Toe Bootie (8)

I prefer this sweater untucked, but the front tuck allows you to see the rise on these jeans better. They also do great things for the rear view!

As far as sizing goes, I have the 30 in these jeans, mainly because they didn’t have the 29 in my store, but they’re actually very comfortable.

I don’t know if this wash is sized differently than the ones I already have (that does happen sometimes) or if mine are just stretched out to fit me, but if you’re ordering these, I recommend trying two sizes to see which works best for you.

And here’s a close-up of the boots… I like these for a classic dressy bootie to wear under full length jeans. I have a similar pair from last year’s #NSale that I wore a ton last fall and winter.

Marc Fisher Ulani Pointy Toe Bootie (8)

Alrighty, I’ve got yet another sold out item to show you… so sorry! The denim really is picked over this morning.

This denim skirt was at the top of my Wish List because the long denim skirt has taken over runways and street style this season, and this version is pretty much perfect in every way!

Madewell Whisper Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tee (S) // Joe’s Jeans The Tulie Denim Skirt (29) // Aquatalia Luissa Boots (8)

I love the asymmetric seams and the medium wash with subtle fading and distressing throughout. It’s a good weight, and the 34″ length works well with ankle boots or knee boots.

My biggest conundrum is what to wear on top. Front-tucking this traditional t-shirt doesn’t seem quite right, but I’m not a bodysuit kind of girl, and the more fitted tops tucked in all the way around feel uncomfortable to me.

I tried topping it off with that biker jacket, and I can’t decide if this looks fresh and fun or ridiculous, haha!

Treasure & Bond Leather Biker Jacket (M) // Madewell Whisper Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tee (S) // Joe’s Jeans The Tulie Denim Skirt (29) // Aquatalia Luissa Boots (8)

Alrighty! I think that’s it so far. I feel like I usually have a lot more to show you, is that just me? Not that I need more work to do… haha!

I feel like there’s a lot more to discover in this sale, but I haven’t felt as many pieces jumping out at me this year as I normally do. I’d love to hear what’s on your radar, and what you’ve found to love!

Also, don’t miss the Treasure & Bond leather bomber with the removable shearling collar and the AG Farrah Fray Hem Bootcut Jeans that are back this year.

My Caslon leather moto with removable hood is back, too.

Oh, and my Bernardo Chevron Quilted Lightweight Puffer Jacket is included in this year’s sale. It’s a steal for $99!

Okay, now I’m really done. Haha!

  1. I like seeing all the “stuff” you order and try on, thanks for doing it. I have a question – what is the inseam on the Paige Leenah jeans?

  2. Oh girl I want that denim maxi skirt SO badly! I love it! Unfortunately, the Nordstrom stylist said the only way I’ll get my hands on one is if someone returns a size 28. I’m watching my wish list but so far nothing is happening! It looks cute on you!

  3. Ooh, I love the Leenah Paige jeans! I had them on my wish list and then took them off, because I wondered why I needed another pair of wide leg jeans. Love them on you, and may have to re-think if/when they come back in stock. Most of my order is coming today. I was able to shop on Wednesday and clicked Expedited for everything that I could (except staples which never sell out). I was holding my breath on the Parachute sheets – I couldn’t get expedited for them and they sold out shortly after I ordered them, but they’re coming today too! I bought a set of Quince linen sheets recently and love them so much, so I decided to splurge on the Parachute when I saw them in the NSale.

  4. Your Vince silk blouse alone is really beautiful and feminine. I’d try it again under the moto jacket. The silk and leather together look luxurious.

    1. Yeah, I agree in theory. I think what bothers me more is the quality of that jacket doesn’t match the quality of the blouse. I’d love to try it with one that’s a little more luxe. This one had potential, but they missed the mark.

      1. Agreed. Nvm cheapening it from a quality standpoint, I think it is too casual for such an elegant blouse. If you feel like a traditional blazer is too “corporate”, what about a velvet one for a dressier look? Especially in a pretty jewel tone for holiday events? It would also look nice with a boucle jacket, especially if it had metallic threading. But honestly unless the weather is really cold, I think it’s too pretty to cover up!

  5. Hoping they restock some jeans. The ones on my wishlist were all sold out by the second day when I could shop…

  6. I am not a fan of ANY of the long denim skirts. I do not think they make anyone look good. Loving the other looks!

  7. Thanks for your coverage of nordie sale. I decided to order some higher end jeans. I ordered many and will pick one or two. I can’t wait to see what fits me well. You speak so highly of more expensive jeans. I ordered multiple sizes. Unfortunately a few things were sold out by the time I was able to order. Now I just wait for orders to get here!! Sooooexcited.

  8. Love the silk Vince blouse on you. I have gotten tired of the moto jacket, it’s time for something else.
Thanks for your hard work in showing us many items from the sale.

  9. I love your try ons and so appreciate your attention to the Nordie sale. Definitely my favorite sale of the year! I love the denim skirt on you and mine is arriving tomorrow. My thinking for the skirt was more fall like with a chunky sweater, and tall boots. In fact, I wanted the skirt so that I will have more opportunity to wear my favorite pairs of tall boots. Thank you for your always honest reviews!

  10. I for one am bummed because I don’t shop until tomorrow and most of my wish list stuff(based a lot on your recommendations) is sold out. My own fault, I should succumb and just get a Nordy credit card!!
I love those Lenna Paige jeans. Will not get the funnel neck sweater now even if it comes back based on your description! I will muddle through and manage to find something. Doesn’t seem to be as much this year however! Thanks for all the recommendations!
