The Best Sneakers to Wear with Fall Outfits (That Aren’t Running Shoes)

Fall weather can be unpredictable, and your shoes need to keep up. That’s where sneakers come in. Not only are they comfortable, but they’re versatile and very much on trend right now.

When I was in London last month, I saw women pairing sneakers with everything from dresses to trousers to denim. The key, though, is that these weren’t your standard running shoes—sneaker trends evolve just like everything else, and right now a few standout styles are worth noting.

Sneaker Trends Worth Adding to Your Wardrobe

These are the sneaker styles I’m seeing everywhere this season, and they all work beautifully for everyday wear. Whether you prefer something timeless or a little trendier, there should be something here for everyone!

Retro Sneakers

Inspired by the 70s and 80s, retro sneakers are making a big comeback. They have that laid-back, sporty vibe that looks especially good with the straight and wide-leg denim that’s trending right now. I love how they balance casual outfits, but they also work with trousers, skirts, or even dresses for a fun, unexpected mix. The adidas SL 72 OG Shoes I’m wearing here a perfect example.

Statement Sneakers

When you want to give a simple outfit a little personality, statement sneakers are the way to go. Think metallic finishes, animal prints, unexpected textures, or bold colors like the red pair I’m wearing here. They add just enough interest to make an outfit feel fresh without going over the top.

These are great with jeans and a tee, a simple sweater dress, or even tailored trousers—they instantly make a basic outfit feel intentional and stylish.

Classic Neutrals

White leather sneakers aren’t going anywhere, and honestly, I’m glad about it. They’re timeless, versatile, and still the easiest option when you want something polished but casual. A clean pair works with just about anything—from jeans to dresses to athleisure looks.

I picked up these AllSaints Underground Sneakers at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and they’re very comfortable and right on trend. If you don’t already have a pair in your closet, this is the one style I’d say is truly worth adding.

Earthy & Seasonal Tones

This fall, sneakers in rich earth tones are having a moment—think taupe, olive, caramel, or chocolate brown. These shades are a nice alternative to stark white and can feel a little softer for fall outfits. They’re also surprisingly versatile and pair beautifully with denim, black, and all the neutral knits we tend to wear this time of year.

I grabbed these adidas Spezials in the soft brown suede last year, and I’m excited to pull them out again this season!

  1. I recently bought a pair of brown suede Veja sneakers, they’re all brown including the soles except for the white logo. I like them a lot!

  2. I live in NYC and Charlotte. I see and own several pairs of Golden Goose sneakers which I see on the streets often. Do you ever include them in your research for your posts?

    1. Yeah, I haven’t seen them as much lately. I feel like they’re kind of a classic at this point, but not as on trend as some of the styles here. I was never able to wear them, sadly. I tried several times, but the toe box was always too narrow.

  3. OMG-I love this post! I’d wear everything you’ve worn in the pictures–its totally me. I’m leaving in a few weeks to see fall colors up in WI–Cedarburg! Great little girls getaway town–if you’ve never been! I’m still tying to figure out sneakers that can go with everything
that are cute and comfortable to wear all day. I’m going to take a closer look at all you have here–post came at the perfect time! Your first picture–dang–I’d wear everything you have there! So cute!
