The CUTEST Bow Neck Top

Hello, friends! It’s Day 6 of 26 Days of Fall Fashion, and I’ve got the cutest bow neck top I want to share with you! I picked this up at LOFT when they were running a BOGO deal last week, and I am in love.

I’ve never been particularly drawn to bow neck tops for some reason, but this one is so fluid and easy to wear, and the print is subtle but fun.

While the style says office attire, the jersey material says weekend wear, and you know me — I am all for keeping things casual, so I decided to pair this top with mid-wash skinny jeans.

Of course you could totally wear it with pants or tuck it into a pencil skirt. (And I PROMISE… I have some skirts and dresses coming. I got a slew of boxes in the mail yesterday. I can’t wait to try everything on and style a few outfits this weekend with something other than denim!)

Here’s a look at the back. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.

I debated wearing booties, but I ended up going with my lace-up flats in this pretty latte color. I’ve been eagerly waiting for fall to wear these more often. They are sooo comfortable and so cute.

This R Minkoff saddlebag goes perfectly with the shoes, plus I like the contrast it creates against the top.

This top will make a great layering piece when the weather changes. I was kicking myself after taking these pictures that I didn’t try it under my cognac suede moto jacket. I think that will be an amazing combination — probably with a darker wash jean, maybe even bootcuts! I can’t wait to try that now. I can also see wearing this bow neck top under a cardigan or a blazer.

My earrings are from a great organization called Fair Trade Friday, which is part of the Mercy House ministry started by Kristen Welch who blogs at We Are THAT Family about matters of family and parenting. I met Kristen YEARS ago at a blogging conference, and she is such a lovely, godly woman. If you have never read her blog, you are missing out.

I love how simple this outfit is, yet I still feel cute and put together. It’s exactly the type of thing I like to wear to Back-to-School night at my daughter’s elementary school or an afternoon at the mall with a girlfriend.

  1. Too much on your plate sweet girlie. Sounds like my girls with their children. I remember. Let some things go and take a deep breath and finish one thing and go to next. Breathe. Stress causes disease we won’t talk about. Have a calmer day and I will pray you all get well soon. God Bless

    1. Yes, it’s a lot! This time of year is always hectic b/c it is busy season on the blog, as well as all the activities surrounding back to school, the upcoming holidays, and all 3 of my kids have birthdays in the fall! I have learned to prioritize wisely and just keep moving forward. I don’t think I’ve ever left a stack of boxes unopened for this long, but I am waiting till I have time to focus on that task. And the closet sale will happen when it happens. That is the nice thing about this job. Except for sponsored post due dates, I pretty much only answer to me. 🙂 The kids are definitely 1st priority. 🙂

  2. I didn’t really like the bow tie blouses at first either, but the more I’ve seen them, the more they are growing on me!! I think they reminded me of the 80’s too much at first—especially when tied with a big bow. But I love the fact that you can leave them untied and they are more casual now.
I think these shoes are fabulous with this outfit—and you’re right…..the purse pulls it all together. I’m still not advanced enough to realize that the purse is part of the outfit—I still just think of it as an extra!

    1. Yes, my mom wore them with business suits in the early 80s so at first, that is all I could think of when I saw them. I like the sleeveless version. It seems more youthful… and definitely the more relaxed bow. In the Adore Your Wardrobe class, Kelly counts your purse as one point (or accessory) if you are going to carry it all day. So if I go to the mall, I count it. But if you’re not going to have it with you (like at work) then it doesn’t count. Makes sense, yes?

  3. That top is really pretty. Too bad I’m on a shopping hiatus right now. (I know, WHAT?)

I’m curious about the anxiety issues. Is that for your kid or you? I’m dealing with a bunch of issues as well and slowly chipping away at them.

  4. Good luck at the doctor today. The hardest part of parenting for me is when they are sick. I have an empty nest; my youngest is a senior in college 12 hours away. Another one lives on the other side of the country, and my daughter two hours away. I get anxiety when they have a cold! You’re not alone in your feelings – they’re normal. I’m sure it will all work out. Thinking of you and saying a prayer.

  5. Ooh, I didn’t notice the royal blue in the IG pic. This is really cute! Great for Fall transitioning too. Man, those returns seem to weigh on my shoulders so so so much! Praying for the anxiety issues. Not fun.

  6. One of my fav outfits ever on you. And…cut yourself some slack! Even when you are soooo busy, your blog is the best read. I’ve seen almost all other fashion bloggers resort to “here is the outfit, here are the links, bye!” You always bring it!

    MAKE IT a great day!

    1. I agree, your blog is definitely a great read. I enjoy it immensely. Love this top! I’m going to try it on today, if I can get out. (I have a bad cold.) I do wish it was on sale, though.
God bless your as you struggle to make some semblance of order and back to school-ness (though it seems there’s been NO back to school for your family yet!) 🙂

    2. Yes, and your blog’s always written so well! I’m somewhat of a “grammar nerd”, and I appreciate your excellence in that area. Sometimes I am a little “put off” by blogs that start with “I’m in a big rush here, so…” or “I don’t have much time for this…”

It always reminds me of how I felt years ago in graduate classes when a professor would begin the class with an apology. I had arrived at the class after having taught all day and would not get home until time to put my own children to bed. The last thing I wanted to hear was how little time the professor had to prepare for the class that was about to start. It was a downer for sure. 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to do an excellent job with your blog!

      1. Thanks for that input, Suzanne. I do enjoy the writing process. 🙂 I never thought about how it comes off to say I’m busy and keep my posts short… but you’re right. I do feel a little slighted when I’m reading another blog that takes that approach. I enjoy the conversations as much as the fashion inspiration.

  7. That top is so cute! I really love the pattern. Unfortunately, I don’t love the sleeveless look on me (but you have great arms so two thumbs up for sleeveless on you!).

Your email said you’ve got boxes to take to the post office…have you ever tried the USPS “schedule a pickup” feature? If it weren’t for that I’d never manage to handle my returns! You just go on the post office website and request a package pickup during your normal delivery time. If I need to buy shipping, I use Paypal’s USPS label feature and just print it on my printer and affix it with packing tape. You can buy postage online on the USPS site too but I find Paypal easier. It’s a real time saver to not have to go to the post office and stand in line.

    1. Yeah, I know I could do a pickup with UPS and USPS but it makes me nervous not to have the tracking receipt. I usually go to Staples b/c they take both and I often have some of each. 🙂

  8. I really like this outfit on you! I’ve been passing by the bow neck tops, but I’ll have to give them a try after seeing your outfit.

  9. In your every day life, do you change your purse daily? I never seem to find the time. I love the saddle bags that are out, but would never be able to fit all of the nonsense that I carry around. Any suggestions?

    1. No, I don’t. I have two that I go between a lot — a brown and a grey. I do carry a smaller crossbody sometimes, but I only take out the essentials. I usually change it to go with an outfit on Sundays or when I’m going out to dinner or somewhere that I care that it is part of my outfit, but on a daily basis, I stick with one or two go-to bags. And they are larger than this one. 🙂

  10. This is a cute top. The tie is not high around the neck like some of the 80’s versions. This is much more up to date and modern looking. Love the color and the pattern. Very cute outfit, JoLynne. It can be so discouraging when school has just started and the kids are already sick. Hope everyone is better soon. Thanks for posing. – Amy

  11. I usually skip bow tops too, but I really like this print! What color(s) are you planning for your nail polish for the fall? I’m thinking of trying a shade of gray?? This would be my first time to choose something non-pink/red/coral/orangy!
