Timeless Fall Wardrobe Staples Worth Investing In

** This post is sponsored by Talbots.

When I think about clothing that is chic, modern, and timeless, Talbots is the first retailer that comes to mind. They always manage to tweak their classic styles in a way that stays true to their brand while staying relevant to the current trends.

Case in point: this Double Face Wool Blend Duster in a gorgeous, rich shade of burgundy.

Long wool coats are having a moment this fall/winter season, and this one hits all the right notes. I love the sleek, double breasted styling and the front patch pockets with the subtle seaming detail beneath each.

The traditional labels and matching buttons keep it streamlined and elegant, and the cozy double face fabric has such a nice drape.

You can throw this long duster coat on over a dress or level up your favorite denim, as I did here.

This ribbed crewneck pullover is an essential layering piece to have in your fall/winter wardrobe. The cotton/modal blend is soft and stretchy and comfortable, and the classic fit works well under coats, blazers, leather jackets, and more.

It’s a cotton/modal/nylon/spandex blend, so no wool, for those who are sensitive! And it runs true to size. I chose the rich burgundy color to match the coat, but it also comes in ivory, black, and two pretty shades of blue.

For another option, camel makes a really nice contrasting color with this same look.

This square neck ribbed sweater has a subtle puff sleeve; and the square neck gives it a youthful, modern vibe.

I like how the body of the sweater has the ribbed texture, and the sleeves are plain except for the banded cuffs.

Here’s how it looks with the burgundy coat on top. I love this color combination for fall and winter, and the Smooth Links Necklace adds such a nice finishing touch.

Here’s one more sweater I found at Talbots that I think really epitomizes Talbots’ modern classic style. The johnny collar is a big trend this season, and the Milano Stitch Johnny Collar Sweater is the perfect pairing for all your pants and jeans this fall and winter.

This sweater also comes in several color options, and it runs true to size.

The jeans I’m wearing here are also true to size. I love the classy dark wash, flattering trouser-inspired flare leg, and front patch pockets. They have a 31 1/2″ inseam in the regular length; but they also come in petite, plus, and plus petite sizes.

If you’re looking to refresh your fall wardrobe with some timeless classics that you can wear for years, Talbots has a lot of really nice choices this season. I rounded up these and more at the end of this post.

  1. Great fall looks! Quick question, do the Wacoal body base shorty panty and the Thigh society cooling shorts have a similar smoothing effect under dresses? Do you prefer one over the other or do they serve different purposes? Thx!

  2. Great post! Love the deep burgundy color coat & sweater combo. I’m so ready for fall/winter clothes!!

When I was reading your part of the post of thing about 9-11 I took me back to the very place I was when I saw the news; how people came together, were kinder for a short while. It’s a sad reminder of the evil in our world as a whole.

    Have a blessed week!

  3. Hi! Love your posts, your blog, your advice!! Was wondering why you didn’t front tuck the johnny neck sweater. It seems like it’s the length you usually like to tuck. And my husband is also flying today. Always a sadly memorable life-changing day. 23 years ago!!
