One of the newest trends this spring-summer season is the muscle tank. This is basically a sleeveless t-shirt with strong shoulders that extend the width of the shirt. It’s another borrowed-from-the-guys silhouette that is taking off this year, and I’m loving it!

Sometimes there are extra details like pleated shoulder seams or a draped neckline or even shoulder pads, which can make it a little more feminine. If you’re not opposed to sleeveless tops, a muscle tank is a great way to add some variety into your spring-summer wardrobe.
I found this tie dye muscle tank at Evereve. I was drawn to the black and white print and ruched shoulder detail, and it’s made of a really nice cotton/modal blend that feels so nice against the skin. It runs true to size; I’m wearing the small.
I felt like this top was begging to be paired with white denim. These are the Mother Insiders in Fairest Of Them All. (I love the name of this wash.)
You already know how I love the Mother Insider style, and when I found out they had them in white, I couldn’t resist. They’re extremely thick and not at all see-through. They run true to size; I have the 28.
Because this tank has a high neckline and a fairly busy print, I didn’t bother wearing a necklace, but I did wear my new Madewell beadlink drop earrings and Yurman link bracelet. And of course, oversized sunglasses are always a good idea.
While this top is short enough to leave untucked, I did an off-center front tuck to accentuate the waist. And by the way, how fun is this mural behind me? We couldn’t resist using it as a backdrop for this look.
Finally, the black flip flops bookend the look and complement the casual vibe. They’re also on sale at Nordstrom and Shopbop.
I love this casual outfit for summer. I can see wearing it to backyard get-togethers with friends and for running errands around town. When it gets hot outside, I can swap out the jeans for white denim shorts.

This is exactly my type of outfit! I love it! I am looking forward to your try-on haul.
Fun outfit. Are the cute sandals very comfortable to walk in? And do you think your white jeans run true to size? The brand is getting great reviews! I love the top but I have broader shoulders and I think this silhouette may highlight them even more! Have a great day!😊
That’s what I thought about the muscle tees, but I actually think it works somehow. The jeans are true to size, or you could size up if in between — mine are pretty snug. The sandals are not as comfortable as some, but I think they’ll break in okay.
What a great look! Has a tiny bit of Rocker vibe edge to it. A non-denim shorts try on would be great. Glad you are getting better, warmer weather. Enjoy 🙂 We are due more rain and thunderstorms but are glad for the moisture to help fire season in the summer.
Yes, I hope you can avoid a bad fire season this year.
For anyone wanting to pay less for a similar style of white jeans, I ordered the Kut from the Kloth Kelsey flares in white and I love them. Like the denim Kelseys, I did find that they run big by a half to a full size.
Jo-Lynne– I’d love to see a dressier tops post. I know you’ve shown us a couple here and there but I really need some tops that are a step up from my t-shirts now that we’re actually starting to do things again. I am struggling to find tops that are short enough to go with high-waisted pants to wear out to dinner with white jeans or linen pants. And aren’t polyester! I ordered a top the other day and when it arrived I had a bad flashback to my grandmother’s polyester wardrobe!
Good to know about the KUT Kelseys. I’ve been really impressed with KUT denim this year.
I love that you’re featuring pieces from
Evereve as it’s a favorite store of mine! I tried the muscle tank and unfortunately the arm holes were too deep for me even in the XS (petite girl problems). I’m struggling a bit to figure out what to wear to graduation events coming up in the next few weeks so any posts related to that would be appreciated!
Good idea, thanks!
Hi Jo-Lynne!
I love your Blog. You have such good taste. I need some help! 😄 I have a pretty casual wedding to go to next month and I’m struggling with what to wear. Thursday afternoon church ceremony and then a pizza place afterward for dinner. I was thinking maybe a little Boho style dress with either my Tory Burch Millers or a wedge espadrille. Does that sound appropriate? Regular “wedding guest” clothes would certainly be too dressy, but I don’t want to be too casual either. Thoughts? Thank you!
I think that would be perfect. Try Anthro.
So cute on you. You look great in the Mother Jeans but you are younger too. At almost 60 I would feel silly in the hemline. I would like to see more casual dresses, like t shirt style that could replace shorts. Maybe in solid colors. I bought the striped Old Navy one Cyndi styled awhile back and haven’t wore it yet. I like it with a Jean jacket but feel with the colored stripes it’s a little much without. I struggle every year buying shorts. I like the muscle t’s if the shoulder doesn’t look like pads. I prefer this style sleeveless, actually….. less skin showing but still keeps you cool.
I’ve actually got some casual dresses for the next try-on haul! 🙂
In response to your question about what we’d like to see more of, I find myself reaching for cute throw-on-and-go tops that can look “put together”, yet ready for anything from running errands to dinner. I like conservative-ish sleeves (I get cold going inside virtually anywhere in the summer and sometimes prefer not fussing with a jacket/sweater, and don’t feel I look as good in sleeveless tops!) and cute, not too low-cut necklines of all types. I like to have white in the tops as I think it helps us older women look fresh and helps brighten up our face! The one you wore from Nordstrom to the tea you hosted was a perfect example of what I want more of- I do, however, typically reach for tops from fabric that isn’t polyester-ish as it isn’t as comfy! Even though they may not be “on trend” currently, I love all neon colors and would like to see more of them! They have a bit of a glow that also helps brighten up faces! Thanks for making my shopping and fashion decision-making so much easier! I look forward to visiting your blog every day!
That’s helpful, thanks! Unfortunately they mostly seem to be polyester unless you pay $$$ for silk.
I was debating on that top last night, while perusing the Evereve site. It’s super cute!
FYI. There is a similiar tie dye muscle tee at LOFT right now and 40% off $39.50 if size not available or price too high for this one. You look so cute Jo-Lynne.
Funny, I saw that too and ordered it to compare. I’ll report back!
