What I Wore Lately Vol. 111

Happy Wednesday, friends! It’s time for another What I Wore Lately! This is a bi-weekly feature where I round up my everyday outfits and share a little bit about where I wore them and how they came together. This is real life, so not everything is in stock, but I’ll do my best to link up alternatives when that happens.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops and dresses, a 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

What I Wore Lately: Two Weeks of Everyday Outfits

Let’s dive right in with this casual outfit that I wore to run some errands and work from home on a typical weekday. I shared a similar look on Monday that is more transitional; this is my summer version.

The shorter, form-fitting sweater is the perfect companion for these wide leg ankle jeans. The idea behind wide leg jeans is to make your waist look smaller in comparison, so you don’t want to wear a baggy top that obscures your waistline. Even though my waistline seems to be getting thicker these days, I feel like this outfit helps offset that reality a bit.

I didn’t bother with a bracelet because I was doing computer work, and the outfit doesn’t need a necklace, but I did take the time to put in my new puffy knocker earrings for some attention up near my face.

I threw this on to take the dog to the groomer one day after my run, and then I just worked from home the rest of the day and never bothered to put on makeup or jewelry.

We went to see a Springsteen tribute band play on a Friday night a couple weeks ago, and I wore this casual all black outfit. These jeans are really old; I like the washed black denim against the inky black top, and what you can’t see here is that this is a linen sweater, so it adds a nice texture to the look.

I tried a couple of shoe options, and ended up keeping it casual with flat black slides with the gold accent. From there, I added the black skinny belt with gold hardware, and then I went with some gold jewelry to keep the metals consistent.

A chunky layer necklace helps fill the v-neckline and draw attention up to my face, the gold hoop earrings complement the necklace but don’t compete. And then because the outfit is rather plain and it’s sleeveless, I wanted more of a statement bracelet. so I grabbed one of the Victoria Emerson boho cuffs from my collection. Unfortunately, it’s sold out, so I linked similar.

We had friends over the next Saturday night for a pool party. I love this swimsuit; I have it in both red and black. The wrap and sandals are old.

And then, I wore this black dress to church the next day. It’s a faux wrap style, so you just slip it on and go. The fabric is lightweight, but not too thin, and it’s very forgiving, but I still wore my Spanx OnCore sculpting shorts underneath.

The tubular black straps and jute sole on these wedge sandals elevate the dress while keeping the monochromatic look light and summery, and they’re actually quite comfortable to walk in. Both the dress and the shoes are currently 20% off at Bloomingdale’s (or 25% off if you pay with a Bloomies card.)

You might notice, I carried the NAGHEDI tote I included in my worst spring/summer purchases yesterday. I carried it because I want to get more use out of it, and it looks okay, but I prefer something smaller and dressier with this outfit.

I threw on this casual dress from LOFT the next day to take my daughter to an appointment. Otherwise, I think I was just working from home, but it’s really soft and comfy so I kept it on. I just wore the Wacoal smoothing shorts under this one. They’re not quite as sculpting as the Spanx pair, and while neither are uncomfortable, these are a little lighter.

LOFT midi dress (S) // Celine slides from Italy (option) // Jenny Bird earrings

This was just a casual day working from home, too busy to put on makeup, lol!

stripe tank (M) // denim shorts (6) // Birks (39)

I threw on this simple outfit to visit a friend for drinks on the patio one night last week. When I wear a navy top with blue jeans, I like to wear a contrasting belt and match my shoes. Brown is usually my color of choice because it warms up the look.

linen dolman tee (S) // MOTHER Tomcat (29) // Vince Camuto slides (8) // similar belt // Jenny Bird earrings

I wore this working from home the next day, and then I ran out and get a manicure that evening because I had a photo shoot the next day that required close-up beauty product shots.

This sweater tank is from The Reset, and I love it. The sleeve design is so flattering, I love how it’s still “sleeveless” but it covers up those little “chicken cutlets” around my bra straps, lol!!! I don’t know why I call them that, but it just seems fitting.

The Too Good Tank (S) // MOTHER Dazzler (30) // Celine slides from Italy (option) // Jenny Bird earrings // similar pendant necklace

I wore this outfit after my photo shoot the next day to meet a friend for lunch. My YSL sandals were a birthday gift, and they’re pretty splurgy, but the Vince Camuto Barcellen slides are a nice budget-friendly alternative.

Davina Cable Vest (S) // similar Paige Anessa (29) (similar for less) // YSL Tribute Mules (budget option) // AllSaints tote // Jenny Bird earrings // LAGOS bracelets one & two // Fendi sunnies

I threw this on to see my chiropractor later that afternoon. I absolutely LOVE these new Vuori leggings. They’re so lightweight and stretchy and comfy; it’s like wearing air.

Vuori Feather Tee c/o (M) // Vuori AllTheFeels Legging c/o (M) // Cloud 5 running shoes (8.5)

Okay, I’m running out of time here this morning! Gonna try to wrap this up quick. I wore this to the mall last Saturday and then over to a friend’s house for dinner.

Sundry twist tee // AG shorts // LAGOS hoop earrings // Dolce Vita slides

This was church last Sunday… again this is me carrying that NAGHEDI tote because I hate that I haven’t used it more! This time, I actually like how it balances the outfit.

My jeans and sandals are both part of the 20-25% off Bloomies sale. LOVE these jeans. Legs for days, and very forgiving in the waist area. If you want a more budget-friendly option, the high rise ’70s flare jeans from Gap Factory are a pretty good dupe.

Tommy Bahama linen jacket (other colors on sale) //  WHBM tee (sold out, option) // PAIGE Leenah (29) (budget option) // PAIGE wedges (8) // NAGHEDI tote // J. Crew earrings // Jenny Bird necklace

Here’s the look without the jacket. I actually wore it this way and brought the jacket, but I did need it towards the end of the church service when I got chilly.

WHBM tee (sold out, option) // PAIGE Leenah (29) (budget option) // PAIGE wedges (8) // NAGHEDI tote // J. Crew earrings // Jenny Bird necklace // Stella & Dot cuff // Frame belt (M)

I threw on this old LOFT linen tee and white shorts after church for the afternoon, and to go see my daughter perform with her girl band that night at a nearby park.

LOFT tee // 7FAM shorts (29) // Vince Camuto slides (8) // J. Crew earrings // Stella & Dot bracelet

The next morning, I was up bright and early to fly to Boston to help my daughter get settled into her new college dorm. I wore my new P448s from the #NSale because I like how the black tab on the back coordinates with the black jacket.

Kut Kara coated denim jacket // FRAME tee (XS) // similar FRAME Le High Straight (29) // FRAME belt (M) // P448 John (39) // LAGOS hoop earrings // LAGOS bracelets one & two // similar pendant necklace // Goyard tote // Away The Medium

When I got to my hotel, I changed to go help my daughter shop and set up her room.

old tank (S) // denim shorts (6) // P448 John (39)

And the I threw on the same shorts with a different top to help her again yesterday before flying home. I should have worn the Cloud 5 running shoes when I was with her the day before; I love my P448s but my feet were pretty tired after wearing them traveling and then working all day in her dorm.

Zella tee (S) // denim shorts (6) // Cloud 5 running shoes (8.5)

I didn’t take a picture of my travel outfit, but I wore the same one as I did on the way up. I only bothered changing b/c I knew I’d be cold on the plane in shorts.

And that’s a wrap for this week! I’m off to an appointment and then it’s a pretty packed day, but I’ll be back tomorrow with more on those Vuori leggings and their new Vuori BlissBlend™ Collection, and I have a try-on haul planned for Friday. Have a great day!

  1. I think they all work really well and comfortable together; except (sorry to say!): I can’t warm to the button embellishment on that sweater vest. (For me) it just detracts from something with otherwise a slinky silhouette to it and, would seem like it would create awkward rolls in front if you’re fuller busted or on the curvy side of a sz12.

    1. I have to disagree. I love the buttons up the vest. It makes the vest. It’s just so cute on you Jo-Lynne. You style it perfect with the wide leg pant.

  2. I love these post. I like knowing what you wear on real life days. You keep it real and it helps me stretch myself alittle to get dressed more, even if I’m staying home. I get lazy in the Winter if it’s cold out and I’m just home. I do leggings and t shirt or sweatshirt and UGG slippers. Lol.

  3. those black wedges are ADORABLE. Do you feel like they are stury enough though with skinny straps? Although I do appreciate the delicate look of them so….

    1. Yes, they’re remarkably stable considering how strappy they are. I think it’s the way that strap crosses closer to the ankle, and they are just made really well so they’re comfortable despite the tubular straps.

  4. Love the Too Good Tank. Is it a knit like a sweater or more like t-shirt? I adored the button-up black sweater/vest from Evereve but it looked too bulky on me. I also love the Paige Leenah jeans but want them in dark denim. I think the style would be perfect for weekend nights out– casual but requiring a heel.

  5. Hi there. Love your blog and have never commented. I’m wondering if you can suggest a mid-rise alternative to the Mother Tomcat jeans at a $100 or less price point. Thank you.

  6. Thank you for turning me onto Vuori. I love their stuff, but I’ve had inconsistent sizing. For example, my Performance Joggers size XL a bit loose, but the Daily Legging XL too tight. There isn’t a Vuori store near me (cincinnati) so I have to do mail order. I dislike having to return things for inconsistent sizing. What is your experience overall? Any recommendations? I’ve held off on future orders for this reason.

I turned my sister and family onto Vuori too and they have had no issues. Maybe just me (sigh).

    1. Yes, when I was scrolling down reading it on my phone, that was how it looked to me at first glance too (LOL!).

  7. I will always love seeing what you wear in the real world. The outfit you wore to church last Sunday is fabulous! I hope you’re having a good day.

  8. Love these post, much inspiration! On another note, I have a wedding in October. Do you think an open toe heel would look better for that time of year then close toe ones? It is normally still hot in Oklahoma. Just want to be on trend with the season. Thanks in advance!

  9. Bright leggings are always a fun change over the “drab” of (usually) black/navy/charcoal-hued workout staples, but it becomes a point of anxiety worrying about sweat stains on them at the gym.

  10. I know you keep saying you’ve gained weight but you’re looking quite slim to me, especially your legs. Looking great in everything! Thanks for sharing!

  11. Chicken cutlets. Lol. Wait till you get near 70. Love the black dress and sandals on you. The leggings material looks so thin for 98 bucks.

  12. I’m looking for a skinny black belt with gold hardware, but at a much lower price point than your Frame one. Any ideas? I looked in store at both Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Madewell in the last month but all I saw were ones with silver hardware.

  13. I think you mentioned that you tried Olive and Jane for your manicure. If I remember this correctly, what color did you try? I am thinking of trying it. Thank you.
