What I Wore Lately Vol. 135

Hi, friends! It’s been a while since I’ve shared What I Wore Lately! I usually post these on Wednesdays, but I held off this week so I could keep the momentum going for our 2024 Fall Fashion Trends series.

After a week of graphic posts and product roundups, I thought it might be refreshing to see what I’ve been wearing during these final dog days of summer.

There are a lot of looks in here, so I’ll dive right in! As usual, I’ll try to link up similar options for less when I’m wearing more pricey items.

I had two appointments the day I wore this first outfit, and while neither warranted a major fashion statement, I felt like putting a stylish outfit together. I used this outfit as an example in my post on using juxtaposition to make more stylish outfits.

It’s the shoe choice that really makes the difference, in my opinion. I swapped out my trusty Birkenstocks for these low-heeled sandals at the last minute, and I added the coordinating crossbody in Palisade Tan for a finishing touch.

I’m going to post this next outfit out of order because I’m wearing the same jeans, and I did that same last minute shoe swap to level up the look, but this time I have pictures of both outfits. The Birks are fine, but I like how the low heel gets the jeans up off the top of my foot.

stripe sweater (S) // FRAME Le Easy Flare Jeans (29) (similar on sale) // Birks in Sandcastle (39) // Vince Cecila Slides (8) // similar gold hoops

I wore this to a gym workout, and I thought I’d share because I love these pieces. They’re worth the investment if you need warm weather workout gear.

I can’t remember why got fully dressed in cute clothes with ponytail hair and no makeup, but I love this simple outfit, and these jeans are on sale. I also like how this bag complements these flip flops. The sand-colored footbed of the flip flops are a similar color to the leather bag, and the bag has silver hardware to coordinate with the silver thongs on the flip flops, so of course I wore silver jewelry.

Overthinking much? Maybe! But it’s what I do. 🤪

I remember wearing this outfit as I was packing for our Maine vacation, so that tells you how long ago this was! I snagged this fun graphic tee during the #NSale, and it’s cute, but I would not pay full price.

I wrote a separate post about what I wore for our Maine vacation, so we’re skipping over that week.

This is the outfit I wore to church the day after we got back. I purchased this olive bag in Italy last summer, and it’s super splurgy. (It was significantly less in Italy, tho!) The color is tricky to style, but I love how it complements this mesh top.

I wore this outfit the next day for some appointments and errands. The linen button-up shirt is a different look for me, but I really like it. I paired it with a slim straight ankle jean, thinking that the more voluminous top would look better with a slimmer bottom. I also like the contrast of the crisp white button-up with the faded denim.

I hosted friends at the pool several times during those steamy days we were having last week, and this is my favorite swimsuit. I actually have it in three colors.

I’m realizing as I write this post that there are a lot of jeans outfits in here for the hot weather we’ve been having. I lose track of where I wore each one, but lately the only places I go are the mall or a medical office or a restaurant.

I don’t like wearing shorts inside when the A/C is blasting, even when it’s 90+ degrees with 80% humidity (which it has been here lately) outside, so that’s why I wear so many jeans. I don’t even like to do the shorts with a long sleeve top thing in those environments because I don’t like to sit on restaurant or medical office chairs in bare legs.

Anyway, I love this transitional look, and it will carry over easily into fall due to the darker colors. The AllSaints Half Moon Bag in Palisade Tan adds a nice warm contrast against the cooler tones in the outfit, while also relating to the earth tones in the graphic tee.

Michael Stars tee (M) // MOTHER Weekender (29) (darker wash on sale; budget option) // Birks (39) // AllSaints Half Moon Bag // silver tone hoops

I do remember where I wore this next outfit because we actually took a street shot. This might have even been the same day as the one above, and I just swapped out my top and put on bigger silver hoops to meet some friends for dinner downtown. Paul wanted to walk around first and go to a bike shop, so I wore my comfy Birks.

(And yes, those are the same jeans; the wash looks different due to the lighting. Mine are an older wash — We The Animals — so I’m linking to a newer pair down below. Also, this light wash version is on sale. )

Sadly, we had a funeral/visitation to attend last week, so I pulled out my trusty Ming Wang Sleeveless Knit Tank Dress. I wanted to wear the black wedge sandals, but after I walked around the house for a minute, I realized I better go with a lower heel.

My ankle is still recovering from my fall on the steps early in the spring, and I wasn’t sure how much standing and walking I’d be doing, so I switched into these raffia slides… which also meant a handbag swap. #moreoverthinking

Afterwards, I changed into a casual tank and jean shorts to work from home for the rest of the day. BTW, these jean shorts are on sale at Bloomingdale’s. The denim is so soft and comfortable, and I love the 5″ inseam.

Remi Rib Tank (M) // AG Becke shorts (29) (similar for less) // Birks (39) // similar gold hoops

Not sure where I went wearing this, but I love the outfit. The relaxed hoodie with the slub texture and exposed seams paired with the raw hem bootcut jeans and flip flops is all super casual and laidback, but the quality of the pieces keeps the look elevated.

The white top is low inventory, but I saw the red in store last week, and it’s also super cute. The red is just muted enough to keep with the relaxed vibe. Size up, if ordering. It runs small.

Actually, I must have gone to the nail salon in that outfit because my nail color changes in this next one. I went with OPI Funny Bunny on my hands and a garish lime green on my feet, a decision I have regretted every day since, LOL! I thought it would be fun and summery… but not so much. Even my husband and daughters hate it. Oh, well! At least I only have to live with it for two weeks.

I wore this outfit to go to dinner with friends last Friday night. This sweater is FINALLY on the Evereve website, and these jeans are my new favorites. I loooove the silhouette; it’s a cross between a relaxed flare and a slim wide leg. I also like how the sanded mid-blue wash looks lived-in and comfortable, but the finished hem keeps the overall look polished.

They aren’t QUITE short enough to wear with flats, though, so I’m making them my ‘date night jeans’ for fall. They’re perfect with these Vionic 3″ heels — which, by the way, I was able to wear comfortably all night, even with my recovering ankle injury. They’re on sale at DSW and Zappos, and that Cognac color will carry me well into fall, if it stays warm.

When I went to get dressed for church on Sunday, I realized I had only worn this AG stripe dress once this summer, so I took the opportunity to get some more wear out of it.

I changed into this easy, casual outfit for an afternoon at home and to visit with friends.

Emery Pocket Tank (S) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) (option) // Birks (39)

Becca and I took my mother-in-law out to lunch on Tuesday, so they could have one last visit before she goes off to college, and I broke out my strawberry-red jeans from last spring. I don’t usually feel like being this bright, but they seemed appropriate for a girls’ lunch out in August. I’m getting tired of blue jeans, and none of my dresses felt quite right.

I first tried them on with this sleeveless sweater from the #NSale, but I felt like it was a little too long.

Halogen Ribbed Sleeveless Sweater (S) // KUT from the Kloth Meg (6) // beek Sunbeam Flip Flops in silver/beach (8) // Jenny Bird silver tone hoops

It works fine with full-length jeans, but with this crop length, it seems to throw off my vertical proportions, so I reverted back to my tried and true FRAME v-neck tee with a front tuck.

I’ll post the pix side-by-side, so you can see the difference more clearly. It’s subtle, and if I didn’t have another option, I might have gone ahead and worn the sweater, but I do prefer the look with the front-tucked tee. I think the difference in the sleeves plays a part, too. See how the wider sleeves on the tee helps balance the width of the wide leg pants?

Halogen Ribbed Sleeveless Sweater (S) // FRAME Le Mid Rise V-Neck T-Shirt (XS) // KUT from the Kloth Meg (6) // beek Sunbeam Flip Flops in silver/beach (8) // Jenny Bird silver tone hoops

You may also notice that I didn’t wear a a belt with the t-shirt, even though the waistband of the jeans shows. That’s because the bright pink/red jeans are already attention-grabbing, and I felt like a belt would look too fussy, so I just left it as-is. I chose my metallic flip flops to keep it casual, but also to bring a bit of shine to the outfit.

And finally, I wore this outfit the other day to yet another appointment. Between the three kids and myself, I feel like it’s always something! I wanted to wear this new burgundy tee I got at Evereve last week. I was skeptical about that banded gathered waist when I saw it on the hanger, but it lays nicely and eliminates any question about tucking… although I see they tucked it on the model, so to each her own!

The faded deep blue wash on these straight ankle jeans is such a nice complement to the saturated burgundy/wine color in the top, making this a nice transitional look as we look ahead to fall.

I struggled with finding an appropriate shoe; it was kind of rainy and I the lime green polish on my toes does nothing to enhance the moody color palette, so I didn’t want to wear sandals. Instead, I opted for black leather espadrilles. I like how the dark shoe with the dark jeans helps create a longer leg line and a more cohesive look, even though there’s a break between the hem of the jeans and the top of the shoe.

And that’s a wrap! I’ll save yesterday’s outfit for the next post, because this is looooooong enough. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  1. Camryn’s song was really good. Thanks for sharing it! Did she write the lyrics? I am impressed that your daughter is a teenager and produced this song. Great job!!!!

    1. Yes, Camryn wrote the lyrics. She mentioned a friend in her IG post that I guess helped her with those. Xander initiated the project, and he’s technically the producer. He pulled Becca in as manager. He wrote the music first. Then Camryn did the lyrics and finalized the melody, and then they all worked together on perfecting all the instrumentals. Xander plays most most of them, he’s an amazing guitarist (Becca’s on keyboard) and they put it all together with some fancy software. It’s a whole new world to me! Xander and Becca did the production, management, distribution, got it on all the music platforms, etc. Camryn is the creative behind all the photography. It’s quite a process!

  2. I don’t like wearing shorts to appointments either so I wear linen pants in the summer. I can’t wear jeans in summer but I am wearing my denim skirts. I’m not a hot natured woman but when it’s over 100 I can’t stand wearing anything that’s going to make me hot even for 2 minutes while my car cools. Lol. To each is own as you said.

      1. I agree, I typically wear them as more of a “date night” option. Until I bought a cropped length in olive, somehow that combo feels more casual. Linen pants are the only pants I wear from May thru Sept! (Unless we get a 90 degree “cool spell”!)

  3. Once again I want to “thank you” for sharing some of your decision making process regarding how you put outfits together. It is so very helpful! And having some side by side comparisons is great for those of us that learn best via pictures. I’m glad that your ankle is improving. It is amazing how the change in tops with the bright cropped pants improved the look of the outfit. Good luck to Becca and her friends!

  4. I just ordered the burgundy tee from Evereve because it looks so cute with those dark wash jeans! It was a great price too. I love to see these post on how you put your outfits together, thanks again for all of your hard work it is much appreciated!!

  5. Oh my gosh Jolynne!!! Such a great song. I can’t wait to hear more. Thanks for sharing.
I love it! I bet you are are so proud that Becca was part of this!!

A little off topic but I want to thank you for not getting political on your blog, at least not what I’ve seen. I read a few blogs that I thoroughly enjoy, as I do yours. One of those got political a few days ago and of course the comments were hurtful and unnecessary. I read blogs for cooking, fashion and life advice. And to escape for awhile. But of course, this is your blog and you can take in whatever direction you like. Thank you!!

  6. I haven’t tried to evereve yet. I love some of these tops! Do you think they would fit a petite person? How tall are you? I see you’re wearing a small so I don’t know if extra small would even fit me because I’m 5 feet 103 pounds . Shopping has been a huge challenge with buying clothing. I am a young looking 51 year old and it’s getting hard to shop with vanity sizing . I know some stories so petite like the loft, but I’m not a huge fan of the loft lately very matronly .

  7. I really like the casual outfit with straight leg jeans and grey tank – casual but your jewelry keeps it polished! Do you mind sharing the link for your earrings in that outfit? If you see this – thanks!

  8. Lots of great outfits, and I’m so glad I’m not the only one who overthinks it! I think that’s actually why I enjoy your blog more than many others. The same things that bother me bother you! (I totally agree the deep V on the frame tee worked better proportionately than the high neck sweater) Thanks for talking through rationales and thought processes! Also I appreciate the more affordable comparison options you’ve started listing. I’m sure it adds a bit extra time to your writing, but it’s so handy!
