Well, I blinked and it’s already Wednesday. That means it’s time for another edition of What I Wore Lately. This includes what I wore traveling to and from Nashville last week, downtown on Broadway, and to all of the college move-in and Welcome Week activities.

But let’s start at the beginning, back on the 9th of August. Somehow I ended up in three different outfits that day. I pulled on shorts and sweatshirt to run some errands.

Then I came home and did some try-ons. I wore this outfit around for a while, to see if I could get these jeans to break in.

They ended up cutting off all circulation to my stomach, so I swapped them out for my comfy MOTHER Weekenders. I ended up changing my top too, and I wore this outfit to see my daughter’s friends’ band play that night.

I have nothing on my calendar the next day, which was a Saturday, but this is what I wore. I feel like I might have gone to Target with Becca for some last minute college shopping, but I can’t remember for sure.

And this is what I wore to church and then out to lunch with Paul that Sunday. I love an all black outfit, but it can be rather plain so I made sure to bling it up with fun jewelry, and I added a skinny belt to define the waist.
My linen pants are almost sold out, but I found the same style in a washed black denim.

I changed into shorts and a tank to host a few friends in the backyard that afternoon.

Then I threw on this sweater and shorts to run some errands the next morning

I did some try-ons that afternoon and ended up wearing this new black and white sweater vest to an appointment with one of the girls. White jeans seemed like the obvious pairing, but I struggled with my footwear.
I wanted to wear my black wedge slides, but the heels seemed like a bit much for a mundane doctor appointment, and I hated the lime green nail polish on my toes, so I pulled out these old black leather espadrilles. I think it works. I like how the black shoes act as a bookend to the look, and they also have a way of grounding the outfit.

The next day I had a nail appointment, and I was more than happy to bid good riddance to that lime green nail polish on my toes! I’m always chilly in the nail salon, so I wore that Z Supply sweatshirt with jean shorts.

It was really hot and humid, so I changed into a tank top when I got home. As you can see, I decided to go back to my comfort zone with one of my tried and true nail colors on both my hands and feet — OPI Less is Norse.

I have no pictures of what I wore the day I sent Becca and Paul off to drive to Nashville. I think I wore my workout clothes all day.
The next day, I flew down to meet them. I wore my typical travel uniform — a versatile white tee, comfy blue jeans, supportive sneakers, and a lightweight jacket in case it’s cold in the airport or on the plane.

We were up bright and early the next morning to go to breakfast before moving Becca into her dorm. I had planned to wear my sneakers for that, but it was so hot, I decided to wear my Birks. They’re supportive, just not super protective, and they worked out fine.
It was a loooong day, and by the time we got back to our hotel that night, we didn’t have the energy to do anything other than grab a bite to eat at our hotel bar and turn in early, so I just kept this outfit on for that.

The next day, we went back over to the college to see how Becca’s dorm room turned out, and we ended up taking her out to grab lunch and run a few more errands. After that, we moved to a hotel closer to downtown.
I sure am getting my money’s worth out of this tank. I love the super soft fabric and the easy fit, plus the raw edges and trim at the v-neck are fun details.

The next day, we went back over to Belmont for the Sunday morning worship service and matriculation ceremony. I wanted to look a little bit nicer for that, so I packed these white jeans and sweater vest, but I’m not crazy about the proportions of this outfit. I didn’t really see it in the hotel room mirror, but this picture… yikes!
Something about the boxy sweater with the wide leg jeans doesn’t quite work for me at all. I think it looks better with the flare leg style I wore it with above, but now I’m wondering if that didn’t really look good in real life either. I’ll have to play around with it, but it isn’t nearly as drapey and relaxed as it looks on the model.

We took Becca out to breakfast after the services, and then we said our good-byes and headed back downtown. It was strangely anti-climactic, since she had been in her dorm room for two nights, and we were already mentally adjusting to the idea of Nashville being her home away from home for the foreseeable future.
After giving ourselves about an hour to rest and recharge, I changed into jeans and a t-shirt, and we walked down to Broadway in search of live music and maybe a drink or three. My Margarita tee seemed appropriate.

My white t-shirt got a stain at some point on the first day of our trip, so I wore this black tank to fly back home on Monday. I also decided to pack the sneakers and wear my Birks for the return trip. I don’t like how hot my feet get in sneakers, and my injured ankle still swells up throughout the day, so the sandals were more comfortable. Plus, I prefer the dark metallic black sandals to the bright white sneakers with this black top.
It was too hot for the jacket, so I put it in the top of my tote, and I was glad I had it in the airport and on the plane. I didn’t think to get a picture wearing it in the airport, though.

I didn’t put myself together yesterday or take any pictures of my workout gear that I wore to work from home all day. In my defense, I did work out in the morning and take a brisk walk last night, and I saw no one except for my trainer and two of my kids. So, anyway. I guess that’s a wrap.
I’m headed out tomorrow to do another college drop-off, but at least this time we don’t have to endure all of the new student orientation activities and multiple trips to Target. Caroline should have pretty much everything she needs, between what’s in storage up there and what she’s bringing with her. We’re also seeing a show in Boston before we move her in, so that will be fun. I’ll chronicle all of my outfits, of course, and I’ll share them in a couple weeks!

Hello! I love all your “real life” photos! How exciting (and exhausting) to travel west and north to drop your daughters off to college! I had it a lot easier when we dropped off our daughter 45 minutes west, then son was 2 hours north! I remember once having events at both schools in one day! I guess you haven’t trained my fashion eye well enough because I really like your sweater vest/white crops outfit! HAHA! Is the problem that the bottom of the sweater cuts you off in the middle?? You have a more discerning/critical eye than 98% of us!! Have a safe and fun trip to Boston!
I do think the sweater cuts me off too close to the middle with the shorter jeans, the longer jeans helped alleviate that a bit. It’s not even that long, but perhaps the high contrast of the black and white draws too much attention to one of my least favorite areas, lol. In addition to that, the cut of the sweater is boxy, and the wide leg pants are cut very straight from hip to hem, so together they don’t create a very flattering silhouette overall.
It’s always fun to see what you wear! I’m curious on the black and white sweater vest that you mention not loving how the pictures look…. How do the photos compare to when you tried it on the first time? Has it lost shape? It feels a bit droopy maybe?
I love the all black outfit! Always a great look and your ability to keep it light, even though it’s all black, is perfect!
It isn’t droopy or stretching out at all, just boxy. I think it looks better with pants that are more fitted in the thighs, and even though the Claudine isn’t much longer than the Nellie, that extra inch helps too.
Jo-Lynne, you make it look so easy to be pulled together! I think every outfit is a hit! I bet Nashville was HOT. What a great town to attend college and get school looks amazing! Good pick! I grew up in TN so biased! For fall looks will you possibly do any casual dresses? I am hoping to find some midi casual dresses for everyday running errands, lunch that sort of thing. Not much luck with Amazon quality ( received some nasty stuff). And unsure if fit in other options? Thank you!
It was very hot! It got nicer on Sunday, after a front came through bringing some milder temps. We got that front here in Philly too. It’s almost chilly here this week! I’m not much of a casual dress girl in the fall and winter, but I’ll keep an eye out and see what I can find.
Enjoy your trip to Boston. You will relax more once you get home this next time. Fall is coming and I’m anxiuos for all your Fall content. I still think you and Cyndi should do a one day a week Colab. Less work than everyday like you did for years.
I do like seeing what you wear for your family life. And just like us, you seem to have your favorite pieces that are on repeat. I don’t know about your ankle, but my left foot and ankle still swells from an injury many years ago. Like you, my feet are happiest when they can breathe. It’s still way too warm in the south central part of GA to wear long sleeve tops or other fallish pieces. I am trying to wear deeper color tops, but since most of them are still packed away in the attic, I’m not being too successful. It will be mid October before we really have a cool down with the temps. Come on Fall and pumpkin spice!
Same here Ginger! (I’m about an hour from the gulf and won’t see temps below 90 for at least another month). I’ve started buying short sleeve and sleeveless tops in fall colors and prints. And pairing them with black or even darker wash denim shorts makes me feel more like fall.
I get what you don’t like about the B&W sweater with the white Nellie’s, but I still like the look– breezy and coastal vibe! My feet tend to swell when flying but they also get cold so I always take socks. Safe travels! ✈️
I agree the vest is too boxy for the white wide leg jeans. I always want to define my waist when I wear wide leg jeans or pants. The vest would probably look better with a longer jean. It will probably be October before I wear jeans and sneakers. Next month I will be wearing fall colors in summer fabrics like gauze, linen and cotton. I wear sandals till the first cold front in October. Always enjoy seeing what you wear.
Yeah, longer and more fitted bottoms definitely look better with it. Live and learn! 🙂
I agree that the black and white sweater vest and the white jeans aren’t quite right. Maybe it’s the hard black line separating your top from your jeans? I tried that vest on in Evereve and while I liked the idea of it, the reality was that I didn’t like it paired with any of the jean silhouettes I wear. The shape wasn’t right for my body and I felt a little dumpy in it. I left it behind. I love all the black tops mixed with various bottoms!
Yes, I think the “hard black line” is part of it. I did feel a little dumpy. When we got back to the hotel and I had changed into the jeans and Margarita t-shirt, I told Paul I felt more like myself, and I didn’t really like that last outfit, he was like, “What? Too Talbotsy for ya?” LOL!
All that to say, I’m going to need to play around with that sweater and see what else I can pair it with. Maybe blue jeans like on the Evereve website will offer more of that juxtaposition I’m always talking about.
I always like your What I Wore”. I’ve been seeing lots of influences wearing jeans and long sleeves! I’m
Assuming it’s just to show the fall clothes! 🤷♀️I know it’s been too hot here all summer and still to even wear jeans! It’s up in the 90’s with humidity this week! I’m adding transitional pieces as we move into September as it can definitely stay on the warm side. I love your all black outfit ! Safe travels and have fun on your next college move in !
I can’t speak for other influencers, but these are the outfits I’m wearing for my day to day. I wear jeans all summer long. Everywhere I go is air conditioned, and I don’t like sitting in restaurants and doctor offices in shorts b/c my legs stick to the chairs, lol. I wear shorts more at home.
I’m so excited about your daughter being in my town for college! I know you don’t know me from Adam’s housecat, but you can always holler at me if you (or she) need anything in Nashville. I’m often in the Belmont/Vandy area, and some of my own child’s friends are freshman there, too.
LOL! Adam’s housecat? That is a new one to me. But thank you so much. 🙂
