What I Wore Lately: Everyday Looks & Spring Travel

Hi, friends, happy hump day! You know what that means… it’s time for another What I Wore Lately! I’m heading to England tonight, so it’s a bit of a whirlwind over here, but I wanted to get this post out to you before I leave.

We’re picking up right before I left for Nashville to bring my daughter home from college. It’s so hard to believe her freshman year is already over! It’s been a mix of sunshine and soggy days over here, so my outfits have been all about balance—some spring favorites, a few practical layers, and plenty of denim (shocker!).

From everyday errands to dinner with friends, here’s what I’ve been wearing lately—and how I’ve been styling it all for this unpredictable in-between season…

Two Weeks of Everyday Spring Outfits

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 or 30 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

This is what I wore to fly to Nashville. Becca and I had dinner plans after loading up the car, so I went with my favorite summer jeans and a cute top—just for the fun of it! I figured, why not look nice? I added a lightweight jacket for the plane and kept it practical on the bottom with my go-to Paul Green sneakers.

We spent the night at a nearby hotel, and I got up early to get some work done before we hit the road. My parents and my brother’s family live in Salem, Virginia—about halfway between Nashville and Philly—so we stopped for an overnight visit before finishing the drive home the next day.

For those two travel days, I wore lightweight cargo pants with a stripe tank, and I brought along my new Lululemon wrap. It was the perfect lightweight layer for the car and easy to throw on and off throughout the day.

The Saturday night after we got home, I met a friend for dinner, so I pulled out dark wash flares, paired them with brown wedge sandals, and topped it off with this striped sweater. I was happy to wear these flares again; they need a bit of a heel, and these new sandals are the perfect height for them.

I decided to wear white jeans to church the next day and paired them with another striped sweater—clearly, I know what I like! This time, I went with raffia slide sandals and a coordinating rattan and leather shoulder bag for a springy vibe.

Since it was rainy, I threw on my Lululemon Rain Rebel Jacket… Yes, I ended up ordering it in Bone! I love the black one so much, I figured a lighter neutral would be nice to have for spring. Now the question is, which one do I bring to England?

I did some try-ons that afternoon and ended up wearing this SPANX set for the rest of the day. I think it’s going to be my travel outfit tomorrow—I love those Athleta cargo pants for warm weather destinations, but I’m afraid they won’t be warm enough for England. The SPANX pants are thicker and cozier, but still breathable enough if it warms up a bit.

I stayed in my workout clothes all day Monday, but then Becca and I made spontaneous plans to go to the mall on Tuesday, so I pulled myself together for that. I wore the green striped sweater again—this time with light wash crop flares and flat slides for an easy, casual look.

This was a casual day at home, most spent working on the blog and other work-related tasks. It was sunny and warm so I threw on shorts and a graphic tee.

It must have been rainy the next day… thus the rain coat. I wore this to my workout.

I had lunch plans with a friend, and I wanted to try this Naadam Cashmere Striped Short Sleeve Cardigan sweater from last week’s Try-On Haul with high-rise wide-leg jeans, as someone suggested. It definitely needs a higher rise than the MOTHER Dazzler I originally tried—it works much better with the MOTHER Roller. I also agree that it looks better with a wider leg to balance out the horizontal stripes and fuller sleeves.

That said, I don’t love it with the casual fading on this denim wash with this sweater. I think it would pair better with a more polished bottom, maybe an off-black or clean dark rinse. I decided to try another top…

Naadam Lightweight Cashmere Striped Short Sleeve Cardigan (M) // MOTHER Hustler Roller Sneak (29) // Sam Edelman Bianka in Tan (8.5)

This striped short-sleeve cashmere sweater is from Banana Republic, and even though I like it, I haven’t worn it yet. I think it works better with these jeans, but I was struggling with the shoe choice. It was rainy, so sandals were out, but the red slingbacks felt like a bit much.

(In hindsight, I probably should’ve tried the raffia ones from above—they might have toned it down just enough for me to feel good wearing it, and I could have topped it all with my short trench.)

Instead, I went back to my closet and took things in a totally different direction. I was starting to feel overheated from all the try-ons, so I impulsively grabbed this cute pink top and paired it with wide-leg crop jeans. A front tuck and belt would definitely look more polished, but the top is a good length to leave untucked, so I kept it simple.

Then I looked at my shoe options and decided that a fun sneaker was the best choice for a rainy spring day. I haven’t worn these green Steve Maddens much, and I like how the pink accents on the sneakers coordinate with the top.

It was rainy, so I topped it off with my lighter raincoat. I don’t love the length of it with the wide-leg jeans, but I was out of time, so I just went with it. Not my favorite outfit of all time, but casual and cute enough for the day.

Paul and I had dinner plans with friends that night… I know, it was a lot for one day! But hey, it gave me another chance to put a cute outfit together—and this time, I was much happier with the result. The rain had stopped, so I didn’t need a raincoat, which definitely helped.

I wore that Rails striped top again, this time with longer flares and wedge sandals. I love how the beige Camp Jacket looks with this top, so I threw that on as my topper again.

We spent most of last Saturday at home, and I expected to keep it lowkey that night—but when Paul asked if I wanted to go to our favorite wine bar for dinner, I wasn’t about to turn that down! I reached for an old faithful outfit: white tee, flare jeans, a stylish jacket, and cute shoes.

And this is what I wore to church on Mother’s Day. I bought this dress on a whim at EVEREVE last summer and was afraid I’d never actually wear it—but it’s turned out to be one of the most worn dresses in my closet! In fact, I think it’s coming with me to England…

I changed for the afternoon—we visited Paul’s mom, and then he and Becca made dinner for us back at home.

After a photoshoot on Monday, I threw on this easy outfit to work from home for the rest of the day.

And then I didn’t do much with myself yesterday. I had a workout in the morning, then came home to work… and pack! But today is a full one.

After Pilates, I’m meeting my daughter for breakfast, and then I have a nail appointment. It’s been a month, so my nail beds are getting super long—but the gel has held up surprisingly well. I can’t wait to get them freshly done for my trip. I’m thinking of going with a shade of red.

I leave for the airport around 4:00, and I’ll probably wait to change into my travel outfit right before I go. I’ll likely be wearing it for 24 hours straight, so I figure there’s no reason to put it on any earlier than necessary.

My plan is to wear the SPANX set pictured here, but I’ve decided to go with my tried-and-true Paul Green sneakers instead of the New Balance 327s. I love the look of the 327s, but they have a narrow toe box and pinch my big toe—no way am I dealing with that on a long travel day!

And that’s it for now! As always, thanks for following along—I’ll be sharing more from the trip soon!

  1. I can’t wait to hear how you felt about what you packed and how a carry-on only worked out. I hope you have a fantastic time!

  2. Love the light-colored rain jacket! I bought one in a similar shade this spring, & it’s been a nice change from always reaching for my black one. I’m planning to take mine when I go to Europe in mid-June & just hoping it doesn’t get too dirty traveling. Hope your trip goes smoothly—looking forward to hearing about your travels & the packing!

  3. Have a great trip. I’m sure your capsule wardrobe will be great. Just go shopping if not. I hope you have perfect, no rain weather. You have been blessed to travel so much. Will look forward to your trip updates on the blog since I don’t have instagram.

  4. I wore the same Spanx outfit on a trip recently. It was super comfy but there are no pockets. This was frustrating because for security and boarding I like pockets to keep my phone and id/passport handy. Just wanted to mention that. Have a great trip!

  5. PS I just received the GAP factory denim shorts and they fit great. Thanks for the suggestion. Even with my new menopause fluff I took my normal size. lol They are a tad stiff, but I’m sure they will soften up after the first washing. Great sale price when I bought them and the inbetween shade I wanted.

  6. Loved all of this! I have the same New Balance 327 pictured. I have an in between narrow and medium foot so was able to wear size 8.5 which is my normal. I travel back to my parents home 3x a year and wear them! they also can be cleaned. a co-worker jean dye got on them suggested dawn power wash and a brush hers look like new! hope you have an amazing trip!! England is on my bucket list!

  7. Enjoy your trip! I enjoy your posts showing what you wore! Let us know what you packed for your trip!
I hope you get some rest on the plane!

  8. I’ve never been to England, but I think my husband and I might enjoy a trip there. It’s only six hours nonstop flight from where we live so to me that’s doable as I’m not a big flyer. Hope you have a wonderful time. Stay safe and safe travels.

  9. Have a great trip! Just FYI, when we were in London in April the stores (Liberty, Selfridge’s) were not shipping to the U.S. except for items bought online, due to tariffs uncertainty. We also had more questions at customs on returning.

  10. Once again, thanks for sharing your thoughts and process you went through in putting together some of the outfits. I hope that today has gone smoothly for you and that you can sleep on the plane! Have a fabulous time. I can’t wait to see pictures on Instagram.

  11. Great post, I love to see all your real life outfits and commentary! However, it would also be helpful if you posted links for your designer items along with the links for similar, more reasonably priced versions. Though I probably can’t afford most of them, I’m often curious about what you’re wearing and have to do a deep dive to figure it out. But sometimes I treat myself and other times I just like to live vicariously! Thanks for all your wonderful content!

  12. Love the full length flare jean outfits on you, the one with the stripe top especially. I like the Spanx outfit and Lululemon jackets too. The black stripe sweater looks better with the full length flares but like you said with more polished denim. I hope you have a safe and wonderful trip. 🙏

  13. So fun to see what you actually wear and hear your thought processes behind styling your outfits. Hope you have a wonderful trip! Can’t wait to see pictures on Instagram!

  14. Hello!

I like the Sanctuary bomber? It looks great on you.

Do you like the size small or would you recommend a med in the Sanctuary bomber for a little more room?
I saw you got med in the camp jacket.
