What I Wore Lately Vol. 33

Greetings, and happy Veterans Day to all those who are serving or have served our great country! I know it’s a sacrifice in many ways for you and your families, and you are very much appreciated.

It’s also Wednesday, and you know what that means! It’s time for What I Wore Lately — a roundup of my daily outfits from the past week.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds, with a slight hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

WHAT I WORE LATELY

Starting with last Wednesday, it was quite chilly, and I had an eye doctor appointment, so I threw this quilted vest on over a cozy mockneck sweater so I could avoid wearing a coat.

I wore my Aquatalia Tilly booties (sold out) from last year. I can’t find the exact style now, but I found these at Nordstrom Rack and they’re right on trend with the lug sole. I’m tempted to try them…

J.Crew mockneck // quilted vest (old; similar here and here) // Good American jeans (more sizes here) // similar Aquatalia booties (similar for less) // Everlane studio bag // Yurman necklace

I had a photo shoot with Alison on Thursday, and afterwards, I kept on this cozy pullover and printed leggings for the rest of the day. You’ll be seeing more of this look in a few days…

Zella hoodie // printed leggings // Saucony running shoes

I had a mani/pedi on Friday… yikes, my hair was looking a bit rough here. I went for a run and then just showered off and got dressed for my appointment without washing my hair. It looks like I should have taken some time with the dry shampoo.

It was a really mild day, so I was able to wear a t-shirt and denim jacket! Crazy weather for November.

stripe tee // denim jacket // Zella joggers // Birks // Everlane studio bag // Lagos earrings and necklace

That brings us to Saturday… we mostly hung out here with my parents, amd it was another beautiful, warm, sunny day!

I pulled on a t-shirt and my Caslon utility jacket to run to the grocery store, and I just wore the t-shirt and jeans at home for the rest of the day.

I wore this sweater dress to church on Sunday. It drives me crazy that I can’t get it to photograph the true color. It’s a very pretty muted rust — not at all a red.

These boots are from the #NSale 2019 but I linked a very similar pair by the same brand. They may even be the same boots, for all I know.

They’re verrrry soft and comfortable, and such a nice shade of taupe. Mine ran true to size; I have the 8.

We came back home for a pot roast lunch and a birthday cake for D. He turns 21 this weekend!

I threw on a comfy pullover and jeans, and later on we visited with friends outdoors, so I added my favorite P448 sneakers.

On Monday, I worked out and stayed in workout gear all day. I’m loving this Athleta Momentum tank; I wish it came in other colors. It has the perfect fit and coverage.

Also, these Vuori leggings are AH-mazing. I liked the joggers so much, I wanted to try the leggings, and they did not disappoint. They’re suuuper soft and thick but not in a bulky way. Plus, they have great shape retention and a comfortable high rise with a smooth band, and they stay put.

FYI, Vuori offers 20% off your first order — it should show in a pop-up if you navigate around their site for very long. Shipping is free over $75, and returns are free as well.

For size reference, I take a medium in their joggers and leggings, but a small in the jacket.

And yesterday, C and I drove to Massachusetts for a college visit. I wore one of my favorite casual uniforms — joggers with a grey v-neck tee, my P448 sneakers, and a denim jacket.

I always use my Neverfull for my laptop and other travel-related items when I travel by car or plane, and I usually put a crossbody with my purse essentials inside so I can grab it when want to get out at a rest stop, and to carry when we get to our destination.

Also, this is the first time I got to use the Away suitcase my parents gave Paul for his birthday last year. His birthday is March 1st, and he had a lot of work-related trips scheduled. Needless to say, they never happened, but this suitcase is so sleek and easy to pack and transport. He will love it once he gets back to traveling.

And that’s a wrap! I hope you are all hanging in there and staying safe and well.

There’s a lot of noise out there — my best advice is to choose wisely what information you consume, and know when to turn it off. I put my favorite playlist on in the car yesterday, and it’s all we listened to. No news, no social media. It was refreshing.

Make it a great day!

  1. I’ve made a couple of driving trips since the pandemic began and have found it to be fairly easy to stay safe. My daughter is an epidemiologist and she gave me a few tips. Like anywhere else, wearing a mask and washing hands frequently seems to be the key. And not being in confined places with others for any length of time. Speaking of the pandemic, I think it’s interesting how it’s changed fashion. Suddenly, it’s ok to be out in joggers! And I have to admit I’m enjoying the trend. Joggers are not the sweatpants of yesteryear– I think that’s makes big difference. Hope you and aroline have a great trip, Jo-Lynne!

  2. Happy travels! What a nice travel day to drive to New England. It’s good to have one-on-one time with one of your kids as well. Your outfits are all spot-on, but what I really noticed in these photos was your trees out your window, turning orange and yellow as the week wore on….lovely! My favorite was the Zella blue hoodie.

  3. Love the Momentum tank! It actually does come in a bunch of solid colors and a few patterns. I actually wore the camo version for my run this morning. I find the lighter solid colors to be too sheer for my personal taste, but I’ve been happy with the darker solids and patterns.

  4. I ordered the sweater dress. I LOVED it, but I have to send it back. It looked OK from the front, but emphasized my mom pooch too much from the side view and also looking down. I even tried it with some Spanx. I knew it was a long shot, as sweater dresses are a hard fit.

  5. I would have been playing Christmas music for the trip.  I hope that the college visit goes well and that the drive home will be uneventful.  The dress you wore to church is so pretty and you look really nice in it.  This 64 yr old just can’t get into leggings.  Having a pair of boots in my closet to wear on rainy days, would be a nice addition.  My actual rain boots are a blue and green camo pattern, so they stand out like a sore thumb.  Enjoy your day!

  6. Love the sweater dress. I ordered it in the rust and blue color after you first showed it in the black. Such a flattering cut with substantial weight and not clingy.  However…I’m. It sure if I’ll get to wear it much to justify keeping both. Need to decide. Thanks for sharing!!

    1. Yeah, I had black and rust and decided to keep rust. I love the black too but black sweater dresses aren’t hard to find, and the rust is so different and pretty. But realistically, I will probably only wear it in the fall.

  7. How fun and exciting and what a great time for Caroline. Our weather here has been breaking records. Today’s  it’s 76 and yesterday my husband and son went golfing in November!! That’s unheard of for us. We would’ve been in Maine and Massachusetts this week for our yearly Christmas shopping trip but of course not this year:( Love the weekly what I wore. Have a fun and safe time:)

    1. Yes, it’s crazy! We’re having the same heat wave in Philly but I realize it is even stranger to have it here. I’m sure it’s the same system. Looks like it’s coming to an end, and today should be kind of a rainy drive home. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted.

  8. So glad that you and Caroline got the chance to do a road trip, spend quality one on one time together and visit a campus.  It feels like so much of our lives are on pause during COVD.  Happy Remembrance Day to your Canadian readers and Veterans Day to your American readers.  To those who have served our countries: thank you for your sacrifices and service for our freedoms.  We got back from an outdoor Remembrance Day service: very well done, well organized and socially distanced apart. We are on the chilly side 9F so glad you are having lovely fall weather; not us!  We are definitely in winter mode!  Need the puffy parka, boots and beanie hats today.  I like the joggers looks and the camo patterned leggings.  Will check them out. Safe travels home!  Hope that the trip helps Caroline decide what she wishes to pursue.  It also is a nice mother – daughter bonding time too.

  9. Have a wonderful trip with Caroline!  I loved the one trip we made to Massachusetts and the Boston area a few years ago.  I love your green sweater and navy vest outfit.  I have those very things and haven’t worn that combo yet.  My vests are coming in handy these days with all my curbside pick ups when I don’t want to wear a full jacket, but want to stay warm in the car.

  10. Thank you for sharing. I love your blog and the work you do! Thank you for keeping it “real” with current events and fashion. Every outfit you show is completely wearable and so put together! I have a question about the Good American jeans. I got the off black and was able to get two sizes while they were in stock. One size looks great, but I can tell the “crotch” (ugly word) looks a little loose? Not bad, just like if they stretch any, they will be slightly baggy in the pelvic/hip span if that makes sense. The other pair fit great everywhere but the waist band. I am totally bloated from days working from home and eating not so good and am about 5 or 6 pounds over my normal (totally at the upper limit of where I am comfortable). Does the waist stretch out at all? I never buy items that I hope to lose weight to fit. I always say, “if I can wear them now, I can wear them better later.” I did get them on a really good sale and am tempted to keep a big pair and a regular pair. Your thoughts on how they wear?

  11. Q- Bought the russet sweater dress after seeing yours, love it! Glad I found your site but sorry it wasn’t sooner. Appreciate all you do. I was wondering if you think suede tan knee high boots with a white fur trim would be ok to wear with it. I also have a pair of tan suede dress shoes if that works better? Thanks:)
